I found that I have to press the pieces button to get the map to appear sometimes at the beginning of a game after synch.

Just incase anyone else runs into the same problem.

Unfortunately that's a semi-regular problem w/ VASSAL. The DDM one can get hung in the same fashion, requiring you to launch the pieces browser before the map shows.

It's ugly and it doesn't have all the pieces, but the functionality I think is mostly there. Of course, a few dropped hints as to other pieces or maybe some low-res pics could come our way ...

Nice work first of all.

A couple of minor suggestions...

The font size on the pieces could be bigger, both when zoomed and when not zoomed.

The reverse video on the numbers for cost is a bit hard to read but I don't see an easy solution to that.

Rounds on the scoring chart should be turns.

The best way to fix this is to change your preferences and split the windows up. This can be found under File - Edit Preferences - General tab - Use combined application window (requires restart of Vassal) check box should be off.

I find I can use the entire space of the screen much better.

The updated mod has been sent to Fenris and Jai. It contains:
  • Larger fonts for the units
  • Updated map (Sorry it is still square.)
  • The scoring marker is a little better.
  • Attack dice now have 0,1,2,3,-,Blade.
I'm open to other ideas.

Excellent! I was on last night looking at the previous mod, and was going blind (which is not far for me) reading the text. Thanks for the update. I'll have to download it tonight.

I've released the latest version of the mod (Dreamblade_1-1-4.mod) to Fenris and Jai. It has all the units in it, but only the stats I could find on the web (which is most of them).

Changes:
  • The units are displayed in a more standard way. Images have been included. The Spawn Cost is indicated in the upper left hand corner rotated 90 degrees. I put the unit name on the top instead of at the bottom. Otherwise, it pretty much looks just like the real figures (I saw some this past weekend at a demo in Madison, WI).
  • The map is a cross between the "real" map and more squared off version for Vassal. The cell numbering scheme matches WotC. The sides are now called Silver and Gold. The far right and left are used for the graveyards.
  • When a new game is loaded, the scoring tiles for Silver and Gold are automatically brought into the appropriate Graveyards. The player who creates the game is automatically allocated to Silver. (It doesn't ask which side you want to be.)


If you find anything wrong with the mod or have some other suggestions, please let me know. I'll see what I can do.

Oops! I found a kind of bad bug. I'm the only person who can play as the Silver Player! I hope this doesn't ruin your gaming experience. I've been wanting to play a bit more...

Anyway, I've fixed the bug. Hopefully, Fenris and Jai will post the correct version soon. You can tell right away if you have the wrong version when you create a new game only Observer and Gold Player are available.

It would be interesting to see a scan of a base put into the mod. I'm a little concerned about being able to read it. I think the current format works because the images break up the monotony of the board and I'm able to make the spawn cost/power/defense/life big enough to read without highlighting the units.

Abilities are another matter. You do have to zoom in to read them (or know them). I could see a scan of the base helping out there. Still, once you know an ability, you shouldn't need to read the text of it each time.

I'lltry it, but I'm sort of partial to having the images now. I actually played a game last night and it was much easier to tell the units apart than the previous format which was all text.

Curious if it's just me or not, but does the vassal mod seem to start up fairly responsive and then get particularly laggy for everyone else? It does that for me, and it doesn't seem to matter who I play (which would indicate a network issue for me or my opponent). Think it's something with the server?

First of all, Chris, I tried out the base scan. Unfortunately, whenever I resized it, I was no longer able to read the text. The base scan is 200x200, but the current units are 100x100. So, for now, I think I'm going to back off trying to put these in.

Second, I've heard several complaints about the lag in the Vassal mod. I haven't seen it myself, but this mod does take up a large amount of memory. Most games start off at 75MB. It only gets worse. I will experiment with different configurations. I would imagine that getting rid of the capability of changing the text for the units would improve the memory situation. I have a few other ideas that might work too. I'll try them out.

Did you try a mouse-over kind of feature? Or a mask? Maybe that's too complicated.

Really though, we don't need all the text on there do we? Heck, we play with very little text on DDM ... just HP and status.

Thanks tullywi! I'd imagine that all that editablility of the units would do it, since it'd have to store all that information in memory rather than just looking it up in a file; that'd explain why DDM doesn't seem so laggy where this one does either...

Too bad that we don't know more figure stats though, as often times you get a piece in the booster generator that doesn't have the right stats on it. Is it possible to include a single piece that's configurable for ones that aren't in the mod, and then have the others uneditable?

I allow some of the units to be editable ZephyrStorm, but I've heard that most of the units should be spoiled by the end of the week. If that is the case, I will probably remove all the editable units.

Hello everyone,

The latest mod with all the spoilers is now out. It is located at the www.vassalengine.org website under modules. Here is a more direct link to the actual mod: http://www.vassalengine.org/community/index.php?option=vassal_modules&task=downloadFile&file_id=1935

As mentioned previously, all the editable units have been removed. This was done in an attempt to make the mod consume less memory while games are being played on Vassal. It dropped my games from 75-100 MB to 60-80MB. Please let me know if it does the same for you.

Good stuff. On the wizards board you said to get ahold of you if we found any errors. Had a quick look this afternoon and found just a few:

Knight of Strife and Joy - Needs Janus Lineage
Mirrorman - Needs Janus Lineage
Sir Glorious - Spawn cost 6VV
Blood Wolf - Needs Bloodcut Lineage
Raging Tusker - Needs Bloodcut Lineage

Very nice though, hopefully I might get a chance to give it a whirl properly soon.

Sir Glorious is NOT 6VV, he is 6V. I have him IN MY HAND. the rest of the corrections are right.
