Alright, let's start building out some constructed bands based on what we've seen. I'll start, kinda leading from the conversation bshugg launched. We've got to start somewhere, build some reference bands and go from there. These first few will be ... "ok" ... but again just to get the ball rolling.

To begin, let's start with three of those scissors. They are cheap and with 7 spawn points (80% likely on turn one) you can throw all three of them out.

I can't think of a location yet that we'd want on the spawn row, so your move is up one, left one.

3 Spellbound Scissors (2M) - 7 spawn points

Alright, we're going to go for Passion since that's something we've not seen alot of. We know we want spawn points, so let's go w/ the Heartsblood Temple ... or rather, two of them.

2 Heartsblood Temple (3PP) - 7 spawn points, 14 total

This gives us some spawn points. We need to defray that double P on the cost so let's throw in two not-yet-spoiled cost 4P spawn pointers.

2 XXXX XXXX (4P) - 8 spawn points, 22 total

Now we've got 7 dudes, 9 more to go. I have half a mind to stick in two Pearlthorn Castles, just 'cause I love them so much. They are kinda pricey given the lack of Valor in this band. Instead, let's throw in 6 dudes around 10P each. Savage Ogre and Forgeblind Punisher are each 9. Let's just assume 6 at an average of 10P. If we throw in a bit of Madness, Unspeakable Freak could be cool.

6 big guys (10P or 10M average) - 60 spawn points, 82 total

We've got 3 slots left. Hmmm ... maybe some mid-range folks? Five or six P/M? Bladehound, Relentless Eviscerator, Boneblade Serpent, Aluring Succubus all fit. Maybe one Succubus (for the lure, to help make sure we get the most from our Temples) and two others.

1 Alluring Succubus (5P) - 5 spawn points, 87 total

2 misc (5-7 P or M) - 12 spawn points, 99 total

Final build:
3 Spellbound Scissors
2 Heartsblood Temples
2 (unamed 4P)
1 Alluring Succubus
2 (misc 5-7 P or M)
6 (10P or 10M average spawn)

Thoughts?

We could swap out the Scissors for Cannibal Pariahs and go the Fear angle, spawning Dreadmorph Ogres and Fleshless Reapers (Yes ... I'll expel you into the Ambushing Reaper ....). With Passion in the mix you'll still have more spawn points than your opponent and be able to bring out larger creatures but you do lose the regenerating Scissors...

If your going madness then I would almost always want a relentless eviscerator or two. He's not bad for his cost and can keep coming out even with an empty board. Something that could happen quickly with extra spawn points from the heartsblood. Remember the scissors don't get you extra spawn points when they die. That threw me for a loop with a band I designed.

Yeah I know they don't give you points - but they are always available.

Check your email; mystery mini is in there.

Anyway, with the increase in spawn points you could easily have more than 10/round during spawn rounds ... likely more from the temples and the other figure(s). You could use either Passion or Madness beaters ... you're essentially using Passion for the spawn engine in this build and Madness for some cheap pieces / tech (regenerating scissors) ... and either Passion or Madness for the beaters.

Chris, the one thing I noticed was that you have a lot of high point cost beaters in there. It seems like they might be harder to pull out. I would think that if you pulled out 2 of the 10+ figs and went with 2 8+ figs it might give you some flexability when the rolls don't come up as high.

Yeah I also have 4 spawn-point-generators though [)] ... I think I can get a 10 average pretty easily with those 4 Passions

Unless someone steps on them... then it might get harder. If you get them towards the center of the board it will be easier as well seeing as you need enemies around to earn the extra spawn points.

Only two of the spawn point generators are locations ... and don't really fear being stepped on too badly. In other words, not all eggs in one basket.

ah ha! I know the guy. I actually pulled one of those. They are very squishy. I wouldn't really count on them providing more than a +1 boost for a turn. 2 if your lucky.

I would agree... very squishy. There is the other one, but it gives to everyone whcih might not be the best idea either.

We sound like elitists. I know we weren't supposed to be talking specific stats, but for those listening in, we're discussing 2 different figures that give you extra spawn points when they are in a victory square. One gives a tiny bonus, one gives a huge bonus but to both players.

Thanks for mentioning that, Brad. I'm not going to be playing in any of the Gen Con tourneys, but if I were, I'd be concerned that a group of players has had advance information and access to the game designers and their constructed warband designs. It may not make much difference in the $20K limited, but then there's the $1K constructed. Anyhoo, I think it would be wise to do all you can to help others not to feel left out.

I expect once the demos start (next week) that EVERYONE will have full spoiler information.

Frankly, I think it's better to start discussing here in the open so people understand what *is possible* even if they don't know the details. In some sort of super-secret back-room email group you'd have the definite semblance of "scheming" going on. This way everyone can see what is being discussed and, given a short amount of time, be right in the game.

Some of the combos are things that are already discernable given the current spoiler lists - the Pearlthorne + Charge Guy + folks with Advance/Skirmish blades. Someone (_Amy_ maybe) has already guessed that somewhere in the mix is some sort of multi-blade skirmish figure that hasn't been spoiled, etc.

Anyway ... I think open discussion is better than behind closed doors. It shortens the gap.

Besides, what % of folks who went to WOTC last week do you think will end up judging the DB events as opposed to playing?

Hey... did you guys notice if there was a way to steal spawn points from your opponent? Just wondering because you mentioned a fig that gives spawn points to both players. It might be an interesting strategy to give spawn points to your opponent only to steal them back with another figure.

I don't recall any way to steal spawn points from your opponent, but there were ways to boost you numbers and not just by having your minis killed. Brad an I commented on 2 such minis and Chris mentioned a location is I remember correctly. The game also has some other uses for spawn points then to bring creatures into play. Some minis have a spawn power that requires you to use spawn points to activate it.

Well I don't want to be an elitist or anything like that... but we can only share so much beyound hints, at least for another week or so. I would agree that once those starters hit the retailers, the list will be finished off quickly.

So lets hint away and get people excited for this set!
