| Ok I figured I would start a discussion every couple days about different figures in the first set and see what people think about them. I decided to start with one of the set favorites the pearlthorn castle. Its stats are: 3VV Location 0:move target adjacent ally into this cell
my perspective: certainly one of the strongest locations in the set because movement is so critical in dreamblade, free movement for one of your pieces to advance it to battle or remove it from harm is certainly a powerful ability to get for free every turn. also this allows the defender pieces like the knight of strife and joy to be moved into a cell with enemy pieces present. Score: 5/5 *'s . Feel free to make your own comments and opinions on this piece, I'll be back later with another examination. | | Completed trades: bonelock, noilo x2, greylord78, Altayr, Shadow Lord x3, qillan_dvra, symbiotesx2, devasque, smetzger, dulsin, Sir Bozak The Damned, Ironfist Boulderbender x3, tallcar24, Tactician x2, Okay McKay, skwave, dariustad,Eprosen,hung4treason,dog of the underworld,FeranEldritchKnight,Jerry_Damage01,vtloon | |

| | Looks like a usable piece to me. Particularly for warbands that want to deploy faster than their opponent. Combos strongly with "Charge". But it's almost as usefull to get an "ambush" unit into position before your opponent's movement. Be carefull not to spend too much on spawning Locations early or you won't have enough Creatures to control victory cells. | | Don't worry about the current metagame. It doesn't matter if it's ugly, bad, or the best ever. In 2 years time, set rotation will ban everything. | |

| The biggest strength of the castle is speeding your guys into combat. Thats obvious. Place it in the center square or the one before it in your spawning row and you can get guys "just spawned" into combat the same turn. The less obvious use is defensive. You can pull fragile figures out of squares on turns when you lose initiative. Just on this value alone, I'm not so sure the castle is worth it. I have played with it and against it in a lot of games. Using it for synergy with things like Bright hammer avengers along with its basic uses makes it much stronger. It also gains a lot of value in a more unfocused format like sealed or in casual play.
In constructed it comes with a weird cost. You want it as early as possible but playing it early delays your beginning setup. Possibly the most important time of the game. To reduce the cost to 3 you need to spend at least 7 spawn points before hand. Otherwise you pay extra for it. Even worse is positioning. The optimum spot for it is one square out from the center towards your own spawn row. You have to have a figure in that square which is not going out as far as you may need.
Overall Its a good figure and including one isn't a bad option for most bands. I think two is too much unless you are SURE you can control the pace of the game. | | Looking for someone to cosponser a midwest DDM event. let me know if your interested!
