| well, according to a blog that i just read, there were only 65 players at the Dragoncon 10k event..a drastic dropoff from the 436 @ Gencon.
Does this curb your hopes for the long term health of the game, or do you dismiss it as an anomoly of some kind.
My first reaction was: this game is only 3 weeks old, and getting the rares that you need for a competitive constructed band is not only hard, but awfully expensive.
But, still, for a mere $25 (+ Dragoncons $90 + other vacationing expenses) you can play a suboptimal band and still get top 32 ($50)....sarcasm off.....
Hopefully the Chicago 10K next month will draw better 10/14.
(I am confident that it will draw 200 + ) for many reasons.

| | Dragoncon, while a large con, is not very conductive for gaming. It is definatly the party con. I would not judge too much by what happened there. | | trade reference: http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12795 | |

| Further, with a large chunk of those (like myself) who want to compete in these events having just spent alot of time and money on a better (IMO) and certainly more well know con, the turnout is not that surprising. The weekly tourneys at my FLGS are usually 10-20 players and the store sells out of DB boosters regularly .
I don't see a problem. | | | |

| Eh, that coupled with the fact that the flavor of the month tournament warbands are rather on the expensive side.
Honestly though, how many people were in the Gencon 1k? This is constructed, not sealed. A lot of people probably do not simply have the drive or models or resources to build competitive tournament level warbands at the moment.

| I'm disinclined to play alot of constructed right now myself. If there was a sealed event in the area with good prize support, I'd really consider that more.
This is two-fold. First, I don't have time to prepare andn practice with an optimized constructed band. I'm a good enough player that I could do OK though in a sealed event. Second, I don't have the time to collect the right pieces for an optimized constructed band ... I can't be hunting down the multiple rares I think I might want and wouldn't want to go with a sub-standard band ... I'd want to bring something with which I was pretty happy. | | Triangle DDM Skirmish Group | My Email | 45-ish trades and counting | Stuff for Trade * * * Show your brother some love and click here * * *
