Hi all. I have few minis at the moment and was hoping I could pick your brains to see what interesting ideas you might come up with to make a competitive deck for a Edge or 1k tournament for this weekend and next weekend. I have two cases on the way but they haven't arrived so I am stuck with the below options for available minis.

Thus far, I have been able to purchase 2 starter sets and 5 boosters. I have most of the commons so will list the ones I have multiples of. Here is a list of rares and Uncommons I have. Please help me try to build something out of this pile of mess:

Valor

Noble Dragon
Pearlthorn Castle
Loyal Scragglemaw x2
Whirlwind Dervish x2
Hawk-Eyed Instigator
Savannah Dreamhunter
Saint of Roses x3
Ardent Zungar x3
Inspired Samurai x2

Fear

Eater of Hope
Thunder Sultan
Treachorous Concubine x2
Horrid Poltergeist
Knight of Autumn Gate x5
Doomball x3
Hive Pincher x2
Hellshrieker x3
Jack of Blades x3
Soul Grub x2

Madness

Jack in the Box
Gateway to Psychosis x2
Relentless Eviscerator
All Seeing Mage
Bloated Parasite
Gun-possessed killer x2
Pick-Pick x2
Faceless Stalker x2

Passion

Shard Troll
Greenlife Dryad
Bloodthirsty Redcap x2
Flame Harrower
Slaughter Boots
Savage Ogre x2
Boneblade Serpent x3

Here is my first ever attempt at building a warband. I have never even played a game but I have read these boards, as well as this forum and Maxminis forum over the past couple of weeks. I am new to the game (bought the minis yesterday) so please don't be too harsh.

Bloodthirtsy Redcap x2 (3P)
Inspired Samurai x2 (4V)
Blind Spikemauler x2 (4P)
Boneblade Serpent x3 (5P)
Bladehound (7P)
Greenlife Dryad (7P)
Flame Harrower (8PP)
Whirlwind Dervish (8VV)
Loyal Scragglemaw x2 (9V)
Noble Dragon (12V)

If I did away with Valor and put in fear, this is what I came up with:

Bloodthirtsy Redcap x2 (3P)
Soul Grub x2 (4F)
Blind Spikemauler x2 (4P)
Boneblade Serpent x3 (5P)
Bladehound (7P)
Greenlife Dryad (7P)
Knight of Autumn Gate x2 (6FF)
Flame Harrower (8PP)
Thunder Sultan (8FFF)
Eater of Hope (10FF)

I gotta give you some of the same advice I received on this forum. For the band with fear I would probably drop the KOAG's. Your band doesn't really have a lot you want to use for appease. In my admittedly small experience though, the Eater can dominate a game. I would probably go with a horrid poltergeist and maybe the shard troll or jack of blades. Either way it looks like you got some pretty strong draws and have a couple not-half-bad bands to go with. Enjoy

DON'T PANIC

Ok, at the advice received, I removed the KoAG from the warband since I didn't have much I really wanted to use to appease its spawn cost.

I also removed the Greenlife Dryad since I don't have very many high cost creatures and really don't want to give that advantage to my opponent (especially since I haven't ever played before).

Finally, I removed the Thunder Sultan as 8FFF doesn't seem worth it for a 5/6/8, though it does get 2: Expel.

Here is what the new warband looks like.  Please offer advice as I have only tested against myself and so is still really tough to decide if I can at least compete with it.

Bloodthirtsy Redcap x2 (3P)
Soul Grub x2 (4F)
Blind Spikemauler x2 (4P)
Boneblade Serpent x3 (5P)
Jack of Blades x2 (5F)
Skeever Hatchling (6P)
Bladehound (7P)
Horrid Poltergeist (6FF)
Slaughter Boots (8PP)
Flame Harrower (8PP)
Eater of Hope (10FF)

I debated exchanging the Soul Grubs with Hellshriekers but I just can't stomach the fact of rolling 1 attack dice and hoping for it to come up blade.

You have a few problems building a warband with that collection;
A) No spawn-2 creatures. So whatever you build will have tactical problems for at least the first 3 turns.

B) Valor, while you have some nice support units {Samurai, Hawk-eyed instigator} you don't have a single creature with Skirmish. So your valor units can only be used to support some other faction.

I'd try
Eater of Hope
Jack of Blades x3
Jack in the Box
Relentless Eviscerator
Pick-Pick x2
Faceless Stalker
Hawk-Eyed Instigator
Inspired Samurai x2
Whirlwind Dervish
Thunder Sultan
Gun-possessed killer x2

The various "Expel" abilities are used either to control cells, or to expel enemy creatures into the cell with the 2 warpstrikers.
The Pick-Picks are about your best option to cover turn-1.
I left out the Bloodthirsty redcaps for 2 reasons.
1) You don't have any other Passion creatures worth playing.

2) If you spawn them both in the early game (and you might have to with this warband). Bloodthirsty becomes a serious liabilty. e.g. Attacking a Spellbound scissors with a bloodthirsty redcap on turn-3 is a sure loss for the redcap. Redcaps are strong in the middle & end game, providing extra dice to support warpstrikers etc.

Don't worry about the current metagame. It doesn't matter if it's ugly, bad, or the best ever. In 2 years time, set rotation will ban everything.
