 | | 06/25/2007 8:24 AM | Alert | Okay everyone, I have dropped the ball with the league the last two weeks (being a home owner in the summer, it turns out, isn't all relaxing on the deck, sipping mojitos - there's a house to be fixed...), but we've had a lot of dropouts/disappearances, as well, which hasn't made things easy. So, I am entertaining ideas/suggestions/etc. on how we can make this work.
My idea: 1) A "free-form" league where we list the members and the players make it their job to set up games with everyone else. This allows for, "Hey, we're both here right now, let's play!" Everyone would report thier matches to a main thread, and i would keep up the records. Once everyone played everyone once, we'd determine playoffs/championships/etc. and finish, then start again. This also has the benefit of not being wrecked by dropouts AND possibly being finished a lot faster (if people can play multiple league games a week). We'd have a final cut-off date for getting all your games in - if you haven't played everyone, then your record stands as is (we'll set linits at some point to keep people from playing and winning one game then not playing again in order to get a 100% win average or somesuch).
Please chime in on this thread and let's get back to playing Dreamblade and having fun!

 | | 06/25/2007 6:56 PM | Alert | I think it's a great idea. One thing though is to make sure that people don't just enroll and then disappear. People should actually make sure they're willing to fully participate. Yes, life can sometimes determine otherwise, but I do not think all disappearances have to do with it.

 | | 06/25/2007 7:45 PM | Alert | I was thinking about a tornement style of play.... If we set a day and tell people it'll be from "this" time to "that" time on "some" day, then people would at least know if they could make the commitment ahead of time.
After all... some players will obviously be able to play more often than others. This would have the appeal of play a number of games at once but is rather structured and needs a good leader to pull off. | | | |

 | | 06/27/2007 5:44 AM | Alert | I'd like to get in on the online tournament, if someone can send me the details at mseamansATrochesterDOTrrDOTcom. I participated in a Vassal online league and the same thing happened; people signed up and then didn't show up, didn't participate, etc. It can be frustrating when you have people sign up and expect to only play one day a week and within a 2 hour time slot... Sign me up! | | | |

Your proposed idea sounds great - but I have two questions... 1. Are we keeping our bands? 2. Are we keeping our records?
