| As I was leafing through an old copy of the 1st Ed Monster Manual taking a leisurely stroll down memory lane, it struck me that it might be cool to scan some of the illustrations and use them for avatars. I scanned the Lich picture and resized it for avatar use and it came out pretty good.
So I was thinking of scanning more if anyone was interested using one of these as an avatar. Yeah, yeah, all you 3rd Ed only younguns' will say the 1st ED art sucks, it's crap, blah, blah, blah, whatever.
Impudent whippersnappers don't know how good they have it. Full color illustrations? Bah! We did just fine with black and white. Why the original book didn't even have pictures. We had to imagine what the monsters looked like, AND WE LIKED IT THAT WAY! [:p]
But I digress [)]
Oh btw, I don't want this thread to get bogged down by a discussion of why 3rd ED art is so damn superior to 1st ED. If you want to do that, then please start your own thread.
Anyhoo, if anyone would like their very own custom avatar pic for use here, or that OTHER minis site [:D], please email me and I'll scan it and then email it back to you.
At this time I will only be doing illustrations from the 1st ED Monster Manual. In time I may expand it to other classic books.

Original D&D art has its charms - apart from Erol Otus, that guy sucks - and there are some pieces that would make great avs. I'm sticking with my trademark Silent Bob, though.

For those who don't know, they were cards with pictures of the creatures on the front (not the same one from the MM), and the 1st ed stats on the back. Not the bet quality of pictures, but the one of the grey elf really inspred me when I started playing way too long ago and I base my first characters after it. If you had pictures of that to scan as an avatar, you'd make my month.  | |
