Well the event happened and boy was it great!  The prize pool that people contributed was huge.  We had over 10 custom minis, 100s of WotC repaints, some RPG books, lots of rares, and so much more!

So here is a little wrap up of the event:

We had 78 players at the start of the event including a few late comers.  At the end we had 71, so only a few drops and one of those drops went on to place second at Nationals... congrats Pat Lynch!!!

We speed drafted in 4 member pods with boosters dating back to Archfiends making an appeanence.  The draft had a slightly rocky start, but got going nicely once the first round was completed.

We played four 45 minute rounds and if I remember all games were completed fine with very few questions or problems.  Much thanks to Allen, Dwayne, and Phrank for all the help with rules questions.  It was great to have some judges and computer help.

At the end we ran though the prize line twice and then let people grab what was left.  At the very end as I was cleaning up, all the prizes were taken.

Some prizes of note:

1.  Bronze Wormling Promo (thanks Wes!)
2.  5 Custom repaints (thanks Runelord!)
3. 2 huge cutom minis with oversized stat cards (thanks Kithmaker!)
4.  8 or so more custom paints (thanks all, I can't remember everyones names)
5.  Gargantuan Black Dragon (thanks Ian!)
6.  3 sets of the first Gen Con promos (thanks Shoe!)
7.  20 dice donated by Q-Workshop
8.  Some much more to mention.

Pat and I figured that there were easily 28 high end prizes that were the first to go.  The prize pool filled 3 tables and I had to constantly stand guard as many other people wondered by and were excited to see all the prizes.

Well Pat has all the cards for standings and will be able to post some more soon.  Again it was a fantastic event and I can't wait for the next one.

It was grewat to meet so many people and have a chance to put a face to some usernames that I chat with.  I can't wait to see everyone at Winterfantasy.  We'll have tostart planning that trip soon.

Thanks for coming out and supporting the community!

As I forgot to mention, this was an international event with players from around the world!

We had players from North America, South America, Europe, and Australia!  From North America we were fortuanate to have some of our Northern Brothers come down from Canada to play as well as help judge!

I would also like to thank Jenkiis for winning the map contest and Mark for printing the maps... and the map, which took a detour to Arkansas, were fantastic and looked great!

Much thanks to all who played and participated in the event.

That was a great event. I met more minis players, the feel was relaxed - it was great. Lots of great prizes, lots of fun, I heard a lot of laughing. Thanks for organizing!

My only regret was getting another MN in my pod for the draft. My only real goal was to meet some board members, so I was hoping not to play/meet up with any MN players.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys. This event has turned into one of the highlights of GenCon for me. I know that I only got to play oe game, but running it and seeing everyone have so much fun makes it all worth while. At the end of thedayand all the competition aside, DDM is a great FUN game. Getting the online community together for a FUN game is very important to me. Seeing as we had 78 players for a fun game really says something about the community and the game... and I think WotC noticed. Several peoplefrom WotC had very nice things to say about the event as well.

This looked like a fun event to participate in, and i had every intention of stopping by to see about getting into the draft, but alas, i was playing dreamblade tourney still and had a shot to move up but lost my last two games to drop down to 92nd...still got a dreamblade booster.

I saw the maps looked fantastic and the prize pool was something to behold for sure.

Next year i'll probably plan better for this event ( i didn't intend to play in the dreamblade tourney but talked myself into it and had a decent time with it)

The Maxmini's Draft Tournament was one of the funnest events of GenCon.  Although I was as tired as tired gets, I had a great time.  A big BOO-YA to all who helped pull the event together.

Thanks.

Cheers.

Well it is part of what I love about the community.  I have no problem setting up and running the event for everyone as it is a fun time!  Glad everyone enjoyed it.  So do we have any pictures to be posted from this event?  I know I saw the flashes going.

Hmmm... My third attempt to respond to this thread!  Maybe this one won't get erased...

There are a few pictures posted over at Hordelings, and I have  few more (but no way to host them at the moment...).  I haven't yet seen a picture that actually does justice to the breadth and scope of 3 tables or prizes!

Like Sean, I had a blast helping to organize and judge the event.  We'll certainly being doing something like this again.

We'd also love some feedback on what you liked/didn't like.  I think everyone wishes we could have started earlier, but we lost several attendee's to the Dreamblade event already.  A balance needs to be struck that allows for an optimum attendance at the event, while not starting at the dead of night!

See you all again at Winter Fantasy!

Agreed!  I'm thinking me might be able to start a little earlier, but it still means playing late.  If there was a day without a major event, we could be the major event, but I'm not sure that will happen.  Well I've started the ball rolling for WF 07, so lets see what happens.  The big thing with that event is time, the hotel wanted up to be finished by midnight.

I had a great time at the Maxminis draft! I did pretty good, coming in 22nd with a 3-1 record.

For my two boosters I brought WOTDQ and War Drums; the WOTDQ had an Aspect of Tiamat, so while none of the players could use the huge, at least they got a sweet mini out of it as consolation!

I look forward to participating again; hope I can make it to GenCon next year!

Greg, you only had one loss and still came in 22nd?  Must have been one tough field of players!  Sounds like the event should have gone at least one more round, what with there being over 70 players.

Glad you had a great time!

Well, the event is for fun, and entertainment only.  Would it be great to boil down to a single undefeated player?  SURE!  But with 78 particpants that owuld have required 2 additional rounds, which would have meant ending the event at 4:00 AM.  The goal of the event is to entertain the attendee's, and make sure that people get a chance to interact with community members whom they otherwise might not have had a chance to talk too.  The event did that.  Going 2 additional rounds would simply have awarded those whom don't need sleep, and many many particpants would have missed out on all those prizes!

I'm happy we got 4 rounds.  At both WF, and Gen Con last year, we were only able to get through 3 rounds! (with about 40 participants at each...)
