Fixed how?

Are you asking to remove a merchant when the price is so high you can't realistically see anyone buying?

The following guides show up as one long bar with no text
Ebay BIN prices (August 7th);
Ebay completed trades prices (August 7th);
Special Minis -Rough Prices 26May06

It would be nice to see the text again!!!

Seeing as how I can't even access the lists, I think it should be a "priority" concern.

Those lists are important for much of the community.

I've reposted the information from the posts with broken layout at the end of those threads in a more readable form.

The tab spacing might be a bit off, but fixing that would take a significant amount of time and effort.

Hopefully madda will have a chance to generate a new set of data soon.

I will post an updated "Special mini guide" sometime in the next week or so. I still keep track of that stuff for my own purposes. Those tend to fall outside of madda's search and are often so infrequent and weirdly named in auctions that they would be lost in many searches, not to mention often being grouped together. Due the recent forum software chaos, had not bothered trying to update the posts until things settled down and that now appears to be the case.

Thanks Zenako. I honestly hadn't noticed that there was a problem with the other guide--good to see you're still keeping your own data.

(I wonder how many current users are unfamiliar with the history of the price guide?)

That would be nice. Drop Paizo. Their singles prices are utterly rediculous for in-print items. 18 bucks for a displacer beast pack lord? It completely skews things, and artificially inflates the value of new pieces.

Completed trades: Zarnof, Salmander, Pigsnot, qillan_dvra, SilgentG, Ironfist Boulderbender, robdaman.

I agree, I would never buy miniatures from Paizo. All UC huges are over-priced on lists IMO.

The problem the comes down to where to draw the line. That spot would be very different for different people, and it does not change the fact that there are online stores that have those minis available for those prices. Keep in mind that the guide was intended to reflect the prices that the online shops were asking for in stock items. The fact that you may consider those asking prices unreasonable does not change the fact that that is what they are posting them at. Eventually the shop drops the prices to move, stops supporting that product line or in some manner self corrects to a degree.

The key point that is often missed is that the guide is a direct measure of relative value of the minis. Most of the time a shop with higher prices tends to be high across the board, which when conducting a trade and trying to balance the relative value of the sides of the trade, the scaling issue is completely moot. People do buy minis at those prices however, stock moves from those shops, so not everyone considers them over-priced. For some buyers the simple convienence of one stop buying is worth paying some more $$ to get what they want instead of wishing and hoping on EBAY or trying to find someone to trade with.

My criteria had always been that shop to be listed had to maintain at least a viable stock of the more recent releases and preferrably some of the older items as well. Those on the listing did that. I had dropped a few over the years as they went out of business or just dropped the minis lines (often a shop that focused on MtG and was giving DDM a shot until they realized the extra hassles of selling minis with cards compared to just the cards for the card games.)

This is precisely why I think Paizo should be dropped however. Their in-print singles are ludicrously high, typically 4 times or more what "competitive" stores charge. Their harbinger singles are relatively normal, its their latest sets which are absurd. A warduke for 32 dollars? Thats more than quite a few harb rares. Aspect of Bahumut worth more than a displacer beast? Not of you check any other store. It artificially inflates the value of new minis, which to me at least, runs counter to the purpose of the guide.

Its your guide, but if I ran a store and charged 1000 bucks for all WODQ rares, would you add it to the list? Or would you just accept that my prices were an anomoly? Thats what Paizo seems to be to me, and to most other savvy buyers.

Paizo makes a damn fine magazine, but I just scratch my head at their singles prices for the latest sets.

Completed trades: Zarnof, Salmander, Pigsnot, qillan_dvra, SilgentG, Ironfist Boulderbender, robdaman.

If there are enough shops listed for a specific mini, you can discard the cheapest value and the most expensive value you find. It gives a better average.

That is why towards the end I also was reporting median prices as well as average and std dev as well. The price guide has been being generated by some scripts for a number of months now and madda is the gentleman doing it. The same discussion occured some time back regarding prcing from ToyWiz IIRC, that had some "outrageous prices" of $100 for Drizzt. Well have you seen those prices lately, perhaps they were just ahead of the curve and read the future market more accurately than all the shops that "gave away" Drizzt for $20. With over a dozen shops in the listing, the actual impact is diluted and if you see a large spread between the median and average prices, that clearly indicates an outlier in the data.

It is easy to consider a $1000 price absurd and reject it, but again, where do you draw that line. Once you begin to apply some subjective criteria to your assessment or calculations, you introduce bias to the data.

I do appreciate that a good many people ended up using the guide as almost a bible for values, since that made their life easier. If knowing the limits of the guide, they were still willing to use it that way, fine with me. I always noted the sources of the data in at the end of the post, much as madda does now. Kind of like a research paper citing the previous research or references used, which allows anyone interested in the topic to do some checking on their own, much like you did.

The price guide is excellent as is.  Even though Paizo's prices may seem a bit, ahem, unusual it is obvious that they move product.

Besides, what's a data set without a few outliers?

It's boring, is what it is!

Thanks again.

Where are the online price guides? I've looked and can't find them anymore. I am having difficulty adjusting to the new forums and don't browse as often as I used to. Kudos to all who have spent time improving the site.

The most recent version should normally be one of the stickied topics in the "Trade References" forum.
