Looks definitely interesting. I'm a bit disappointed as I had hoped for a Star Wars -style starter with 2 unique large vessels, which would have given a nice kickstart for the collection.

I wonder what the price will be? 5 miniatures/booster... And SWM space battles are coming - these games might be real sinkholes for wallets so I guess it's time to be patient and see how the games turn out before decisions.

Well, I'm surely waiting for more information on this, and eagerly!

Not much interest for the game here?

Some more info was released, partially it makes the minis sound extremely cool, partially it gives some doubts, but what's worst - booster price IS $15. Starter's $25.

To the other bits to be chewed:
Iowa is just under 6".
Enterprise is just under 5 1/2".
U-boat is 1 1/2"

Minis sound extremely cool, but where do they manoeuver? If there's squares (well, at least we know they are not hexes) where any ship can fit, the map would be 6x7 squares. Hmm.

I for one can't wait to see them. I would be all over some nicely done naval minis. WW2, WW1, Modern and even old masted ships of the line. Hopefully they are kept somewhat in scale with each other.

Ships should be in scale to each other from what I've heard, 1:1800. Planes should be 1:900, which I believe will be just fine - smaller would probably be too small. If only SWM fighters would have been this way too... Point for WaS and against SW!

I remember wanting ww2 ships already as a kid, but got traumas when trying to glue 50 tiny turrets to the first ship construction kit =o)

This feels to be some kind of sea -themed period for me; In addition to interest in this game, I'm also building ships to be used with D&D, possibly even DDM game. I'm involved in a pirate -themed campaign and am starting an Iron Heroes -campaign in a world with lot of seas, so I believe these ships are going to see a lot of use!

I'm puzzled by what looks like "range" values on the card for the Enterprise. ?
If the map is 5 - 7 squares on a side, that would suggest each square is a strategic sea zone, 10's (or 100's) of miles across. So gun ranges would be irrelevant.
If the map is tactical, then the 5" guns of the Enterprise did not have 2/3 the effective range of the largest battleship guns. Battleships use DCT's on high masts or other technical tricks (spotter planes, radar etc) to fire at targets well beyond the horizon.

Don't worry about the current metagame. It doesn't matter if it's ugly, bad, or the best ever. In 2 years time, set rotation will ban everything.

I believe that the map is somewhere between. We got info abour 30"x40" map, and 5" squares would make it exactly 6*8 squares board. 6" ships would fit in well from corner to corner, especially if there's some sort of capital ship limitation in a square. This is a game that must have rules for balance and practicality, after all.

Even so, a battleship with range 3 would be able to shoot to majority of the battlefield of 5" squares:

_RRR__
RRRRR_
RRRRRR
RRXRRR
RRRRRR
RRRRR_
_RRR__
______

(X=ship, R=range, _=no range)
Feels a little strange, doesn't it? With speed 2, ship can make almost there with one move. Requiring fire control plane (we're getting Catalina, and Condor too if I trust in other people's keen eyes ) to shoot to range 3 would make it more understandable. And maybe squares aren't counted as in DDM.

The boosters only have 5 ships and cost $15? So $3 a mini. Sounds pretty bad, unless they are some big and awesome minis.

Ah, well six inches of Iowa with moving 16" guns sounds pretty big and awesome to me!

I can't want to play this game...

Yup, at that cost they should be really well-made. If they look like crap I'll pass, but I believe that at least majority of the minis will look good.

It's the first set for this and SW ship game, and if I intend to get into either of these, I'll focus on the beginning as first sets always get special attention and are relatively of better quality than later sets. Well, at the time of Harbinger WotC didn't have any experience, but now they do.
