| Dang but I'm gonna be broke come the end of this month start of November. In one weekend there are a bunch of prerelease/release/special events.
October 27th - release Tournament for Dreamblade ($50) October 28th prerelease for Blood War ($40 - lots of extra prize support) or another DReamblade release tournament October 29th Horrorclix special costumed event sealed ($25) or Star Wars October 31st Horrorclix special costumed event sealed ($30) -different store
Thankfully I don't play Magic as well. While $145 for lots of gaming is bad enough I also have a son who plays as well. (Okay he plays better than I do!)

| I'm more or less right there with you playing the same Dreamblade tournament on the 27th and the Bloodwar prerelease on the 28th at my local game store.
I'm not doing the Horrorclix but right after its 2 cases of Bloodwar and a half case of the new Dreamblade set..... the wallet will be screaming for mercy by then.

| I wonder when the saturation point will be hit. I mean, Wizards can only have so many different lines of products and maintain good sales (this isn't to imply that the current number of lines is the optimum number, there might yet be room to grow for all I know).
But, if people are having trouble buying the quantity they want of product X, because they're also buying Y and Z, then maybe we're close to that limit.

| Its almost like WotC is forcing mini lovers to pick only one game. Basically, that is the case, and it's because the majority of the players of these games only play one game. Those players want releases a lot closer together than the rare people who play them all.
Cheers!

Well, I agree when it comes to Dreamblade and AAM. SWM is more of a niche product also. But DDM is sort of a common denominator for many mini players, and I believe that the numerous cross-trading offers in the depths of these boards are just the top of the iceberg. And strangely I believe that Magic : the Gathering has a role to play in this, essentially as a competitor of sorts to Dreamblade.
At this stage, I believe the collectible games market has reached maturity - only really innovative products can take hold, and then again only at the expense of other products.
SWM will probably subsist for a few more sets, but will in the end disappear as no new "players" come aboard (quotes because of the larger crowd not playing but just collecting the thing). It's already going the way of the dinosaurs with sparse, irregular new releases. And the latest set is not going to help, though full of desirable pieces, the price tag is a bit harsh to get a RARE huge bird or flea (?!) no one ever saw anywhere. Just my opinion, but I think I'm not far from the truth. The Starship battles look promising, but a collectible one-shot game is a strange thing if I ever saw one...
DDM will probably take a back seat, keeping constant sales due to the link to RPG. Skirmish is probably bound to slowly die out, at least in sanctioned organised play form. I believe the product will become the MtG of miniature games, "probably not the best, but a classic you can always come back to". Which is a good thing for the DDM brand.
Dreamblade is a gambit of sorts. Interesting gameplay, striking look of the minis (see, I wrote "striking", not "beautiful" or "ugly"... what a slimy way to give an opinion). But in essence, the organised play could consume DDM's OP program and the target market is, I think, too close to MtG players for its own good. I hope this game will stay, because it is really good, but I fear it will not be here for long, among other things because of the price. I'm ready to buy DDM boosters because I play RPG, but an even more expensive pack of minis that are probably useless in terms of gameplay and have no immediate alternate use... that I think I'll pass on after a while. My take on it is I'll try and complete the first set (pulled 3 scarab warcharms in 15 packs, so I have what it takes to get my needs ;-), but I'll take a back seat on the first expansion release and watch were the game's headed.
Finally, AAM, I won't talk about it as I don't know anything about it, frankly. I know my FLGS carries it, but their stock look suspiciously long-lived. I think this has no long-term potential without strong changes in the context (other parts of history, like WW I, Napoleon's wars, US Civil War...).
At any rate, I strongly believe the future of all these games are intertwined because there is a LOT of people playing or collecting at least two of those, even if they're not hardcore collectors or tournament players. Which, to me, means that there's indeed too much on the shelves right now, unless I underestimate the money people are willing to spend on such expensive games...

| Wow. I spent a lot of money to get my butt kicked.
Friday Dreamblade: $50 to go 1-2 (7 out of 8 ) - the kid went 2-1 (2 out of 8 ) Saturday DDM $40 (1-0 dropped to takeover as judge) - the kid went 3-2 (7 out of 21) Sunday SWM free 3-0 (1 out of 4) - the kid stayed home Halloween Horrorclix $30 to go 0-3 (6 of 6) - the kid went 2-1 (3 out of 6)
I guess I need to stick with free events?

I second that! It becomes too complicated and expensive when one plays more than one of these WoTC games. The prices of booster packs going up doesn't help ether. Unless your job is really bringing in the cold hard cash, I wouldn't suggest going all out w/ these games. Well anyway that's my opionion...

| This is a problem that is as old as the hobbies themselves, I am sure.
I lived through this exact thing back in the day. Btw: being a completist doesn't help either.
Seriously though, it is best to just pick 2 maybe 3, if your income can handle it, hobbies and stick with them. I would suggest letting the others go, and as far as competitions go... Only go to the ones which host the game you enjoy most/have invested in most.
just my 2ep worth.
