It hardly sells at all at the FLGS and I have never witnessed anyone playing it there either.

The year: 1994. From out of space comes a runaway planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon, unleashing cosmic destruction! Man's civilization is cast in ruin!
Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn...
A strange new world rises from the old: a world of savagery, super science, and sorcery. But one man bursts his bonds to fight for justice! With his companions Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel, he pits his strength, his courage, and his fabulous Sunsword against the forces of evil.
He is Thundarr, the Barbarian!

In general I would have to say poorly. We have a core of dedicated players who like the game and are just enough to make a tournament most times but it hasn't grown that much since the new year.

We had 8 out for our last tournament which was nice but in general it's pretty stagnant. People's game dollars are just to divided to pick up another game.

I'd say pretty poorly myself.ツ Several of the games stores I frequent don't seem to be selling it or running events.

I'd say fairly poorly, especailly considering the relative success of DDM and SWM. I'd say (at least in my area) it's largely due to the lack of name recognition or general roleplaying viability that the other two games have.

Down to two stores from 5 who really support it and that's because their owners are players. Most are dropping even carrying any beyond what they must to keep store status with WotC.

Just a little update, I recently had the chance to introduce the game to players who didn't play any other collectible mini game and they thoroughly enjoyed it and have started collecting.'m not sure how much they want to get, but they did seem to be a ready made group that wants to play together. I'm finding it's like any other collectible. People who play many other games don't pick it up (but they doing start DDM, SWM, etc either) but many like the gameplay who do try it out.

It really is a shame in a way. Mechanics-wise it's a very well designed game. If they had chosen different subject matter rather than a lot of their freaky dream stuff I think it would be an easier sell.

I agree.ツ While the idea is kinda cool (battles in the dreamscape), and while some of the minis are kinda cool, the particular subjects and many (most?) of the particular minis are just a little too weird for my tastes.ツ And, that's too bad, because the game looks pretty fun to play.

But, for me, I already sink hundreds of dollars a year into minis and perhaps a couple hundred into D&D, and, frankly, disposable income ain't what it used to be (and I live in one of the most economically depressed states in the country), and so I can't afford to get into another game.ツ And, worse, I don't have the time for it.

I've a feeling it would have been better recieved by RPG players if the scale wasn't so off on the Dreamblade figures.ツ Some of the monsters are find and all but most of the more "human" figures are too big.

Doesn't seem like they purposely aimed for RPGers at all. Which is fine, everything doesn't have to be tied into D&D.

It seemed to get off to a good start at my store, but it has slowed to a crawl sales wise. Factors include duplication of players (it's being played by DDm & SWM players), weird subject matter doesn't attract new players, & expense (face it, $15 is alot for small plastic men). Too many releases makes collecting this product tough too.

I like the game mechanics, but it came to late too the party in an already flooded market.

With this thread in mind I talked to another store owner that I met with a few weeks ago and asked him about Dreamblade. He brought up a very interesting point. DDM and SWM were more anomalies as far as games go since they had a well established player/fan base before they even came onto the market. Dreamblade has to make it's own from scratch, like most games. So while it may seem like it's struggling, this may be just the normal growing pains a new game goes through in its first year.

Infidel! How dare you?! You sacriligious fool! It always has to be about DnD or it ain't worth touchin!!!

Just kidding, but yeah, DnD RPG seems to be a key component for all these miniature games, warhammer and wizkidsツminis are even used for DnD purposes in many cases.

nah.. Hasbro has this thing about games... I seem to recall a dead vault of games hasbro got ahold of and either dumped because they didn't sell to their expectations, or dumped it because the fanbase left the spot.

Magic being the only viable CCG Hasbro has, why?

Pokemon, dead..
L5R, dead. Yes, Hasbro did buy the rights, killed L5R, and then gave it back to the company..
Need I go on about how many games Hasbro has had and killed simply because it wasn't selling to expectation? Dreamblade will eventually go the way of the Dodo too.

You're right. That point was also brought up. As a bigger company, Hasbro has different bottom lines than WOTC would if they were the only decider.

Unfortunatelyツ WotC is the same... Before Hasbro got WotC, Garfield created several games... WotC killed em because they didn't sell. Besides Magic, Roborally was the only game WotC kept. But what happened to Vampire? Netrunner? And others? WotC killed em and that was before Hasbro took WotC over. It's all about business. If something doesn't do well, it has to go or it soon becomes a liability.

Yeah, but with licensed games, you expect them to do well from the get go. if DDM hadn't sold well initially, they would have cut it, because it's not going to exactly explode overnight. A majority of the fanbase either wants it or doesn't. It'll still grow, but at a lower rate compared to age. DBM is a completely different animal.

There was an interesting-looking game where you would reap souls from opponent and put together abominations from your minions,ツit was creepy and kewl. Don't recall the name, sorry. I wanted to try it and then they shut it down

I voted well...

DB has several tens of players here and when it arrived, it was a great pain to DDM. I don't know which has more players now, but I know that SWM are almost dead, no organized play, but boosters tend to leave the shelves very quickly. A mystery not yet revealed.

DB is a nice game, but it's more expensive than DDM, there are several best armies with best and expensive pieces and without them it's much harder to play (Scarab comes to mind, then things like the red drake...). I think DDM is a lot cheaper.

I like DBM, it is about the same cost. The difference is, it's higher variance purchasing. Crap rares don't get any value, whereas DDM at least the have RPG value. This causes the good rares (Warcharm, RageDrake) to go higher, based on purchasing price and median price. But per booster, it's the same price, and DBM actually has a 20-20-20 distribution, making it easier to complete and better chances (1/20 vs. 1/24) for pulling a specific (generally good) piece.

That game was Hecatomb.ツ It had an interesting mechanic, but hit major snags with perception as well as, IMO, not a well designed starter set.ツ You had a lot of cards, but nothing you could play right out of the box.

DB has several tens of players here and when it arrived, it was a great pain to DDM. I don't know which has more players now, but I know that SWM are almost dead, no organized play, but boosters tend to leave the shelves very quickly. A mystery not yet revealed.

Very cool to hear.ツ The "mystery" can be solved by the collector's market.ツ It hits another segment of buyers other than the skirmishers, and now can also hit RPGers too.

Dreamblade participation here is generally poor.ツ Our FLGS tries to have Tourny's every other Thursday, but many times there is barely 4 people to play in them.ツ I've played in a couple of them, though I don't collect the game.ツ One of my friends plays and he lends me an army if I'm needed to play.ツ

I even played in a Anvilborn Draft Release tourny, and after getting my butt whomped by the other players I gave away my figures.ツ Heck, I got a Justicator for one of them because the guy I gave one of the rares to had bought several Underdark boosters a few weeks before to check out DDM.

All told there are 2 or 3 people who seem to really enjoy DBM and are always around for the tourny's, and then another 4 or 5 who dabble and if they can make it, cool, if not, cool.ツ Me, I just like to game.

Pokemon dead?ツ The 766 people who participated in the Pokemon US Nationals last week at Origins would dispute that claim.ツ I'd also like to point out that number is up from the roughly 400 or so that were in the Pokemon US Nationals last year.ツ In fact, the 15+ age group had over 400 this year.

I think Dreamblade is dead or will die within the year (for a lot of reasons), but I think the reasons why the game failed to do well are very different from what you are intimating.

Dreamblade has to make it's own from scratch, like most games. So while it may seem like it's struggling, this may be just the normal growing pains a new game goes through in its first year.

Then tell us!

---

I am not sure it's only collecting market here (SWM), because some boosters disappear and some do not. I guess there are several players that do not want to/do not know/something that there can be tourneys arranged, not mentioning getting to know new people...

P.S.: I am not sure if everyone understood correctly, because it may not be so obvious, butツI was talking about our whole republic (about 10 million people). The are about 4 LGSs, where there are major play rooms.

ad Hecatomb: I have seen some pictures and so and it looked very kewl It was similar to Magic, an alternative and creepy version.

We play here in my city (56 000 people) heavily Magic and DDM, but we have some armies/decks from other games as well that we play when we have the taste. Things like Mechwarrior, SWM, SWM SSB, Warhammer 40K, War Cry, Vampire tES.

Pokemon was run by some other company, WotC got it, did some weird things to it, and then ditched it because the customer base died. The same thing happened with L5R.

Just a simple traveler from the swamps of Dagobah otherwise known as Florida. Also known as Hurricane Alley!
I always try to send through delivery confirmation, and I expect the same. It's only 55 cents extra, so it's just a little more than a pay phone call, so just do it for the Kai. I prefer to trade with people in the US and Canada, sorry everyone else.
