Wizard Entertainment (the folks who put on Wizard World and publish a group of comic and toy related magazines) announced that they won't be publishing Inquest Gamer any longer.

The last issue is the September Issue, #150... which means we won't actually see the Desert of Desolation article/preview that was intended to be in the next issue #151.

Funny thing about htos previews. How many people actually went out and bought the magazine when there was a preview? Not many I warrant. Most people were too cheap and waited for someone to post the preview here or Hordelings or on the WotC site.
So yeah... the previews were nice and the magazine was a good read, but you can't make money if people are just scanning your stuff and giving it away for free.Â
Oh well. Such is the nature of people. We want, but we're never willing to pay.

On the same note, people will find ways to distribute the online mags for free. Anyways, for myself, I am sick of all this digital BS. I liked my mags because I could read them anytime I wanted to. Now if I want my mags, I'm going to have to buy a computer. No thanks.

Unfortunately, not enough to make a difference.
To use Dungeon & Dragon magazines as an example...they KNOW that they can potentially reach many more people using an e-zine rather than a paper magazine. They know full well that they have pissed off us print fans but we don't matter to them anymore because they know they can make more money by offering the magazines electronically. They know that those of us who won't buy into DI is a drop in the bucket.
I don't wish to see WotC fail, I just want DI to fail so they will go back to print. That's unlikely though. | |

No, they couldn't make more by offering both. They probably wouldn't sell enough print copies to pay the printing costs. You have to mass produce for printing to be worth it, and they would have drastically lower print runs with DDI. | |

Not with the possible thousands that would prefer the print over digital.
And it's not completely true about printing costs, as it costs about a quarter to make each mag (digital, it will be only an one-time cost.) It costs 8 cents to make the San Fransico paper, and it goes to about 75,000 people. And that doesn't include all the extras, and then the web based paper... How many people in America alone would prefer the paper quality? I would assume that in Dragon/Dungeon, 60% of the people will go to digital, while 40% will dump it altogether. I for one hate computers, and I will not read a web-based magazine. Especially since the web-based magazine will cost exactly the same as the paper one. Paizo did offer the web based mags, and the prices were exactly the same. | |

It still could. Some parts may be dow, but you can still play without the internet. There will be plenty of people who do.
But as this site proves, why not have a few more options for gaming? How much DDM community would there be without the internet?

They're not just including additional e-content. The e-content is actually repacing current print elements of the game.  I suspect more, not less, material will be replaced before 4e goes live. | |
