| Well the Player Characters for Descent are on par with DDM characters. I could see this game being closer to a Gi-Joe kind of scale. Posted By wicked cool on 09/11/2007 12:06 PM ive heard they are bigger in scale. similiar in size to the descent board game pieces

| I like the opera, but I don't care bout the game. Art reminds me a bit of Hellboy.

| I've looked at it and almost got in a game at GenCon. The figs are comparable in size to DDM medium figs. They look fantastic too. The paint jobs looked great. As for the game itself... I have it on preorder with my FLGS. I can't wait to try it out.

| | I just picked it up today. The figures are sized more or less like the D&D and SWM figures. Mine were painted pretty well, with minimal touch-ups required. The plastic is a bit stiffer that DDM, more on par with the 'clix figures I'd say. | | Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul | |

| The figures look very nice; they are about the same scale as most other minis including DDM. However, the somewhat pricey box only includes 10 figures. The board and components are heavy duty though.
The game suffers from some bad component design. There are tons of tokens, many of them looking very similar, with no indication of what they do. For example, there are something like three variants of Luger with bonuses ranging from +0 to +2, and no easy way to tell them apart. Without a lot of memorizing, or upgrading the pieces (I printed out little tags to put on my counters), this can really drag a game down.
Its a skirmish action game, designed for the two teams of five characters each included in the box. Its designed as a 2 player game; while it says it can play up to 10 players, this would be done just by dividing up the characters.
The mechanics are a bit clunky, and the balance isn't too good - each character has three 'packs' of gear to pick from, but usually one is clearly better, and one is downright bad.
The pathfinding system works smoothly, except that some color choices are poor; in places you have greenish-blue circles next to bluish-green circles. Mostly its fine though. (The pathfinding is that instead of having Line of Sight rules, the board is marked in colored circles; a figure can see anyone on the same color path that they are on). Its kind of redundant; being an indoor skirmish game where other figures don't block LoS makes LoS pretty trivial anyway.
There are two big counterintutive parts; first, that weapons have a minimum rather than a maximum range. Second, some adjacent circles are not on the same path, so you can be next to someone but unable to attack them - this usually happens at doors.
Its a really cool concept, and I want to like it more than I do, but it just seems too buggy and clunky to be a great game.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was wondering. | | Greyhaze's DDM Spoilers Champion of a Medium Dog & then a Darkenbeast , Raistlin Majere, Nightmare WDQ25/60, Warduke WD60/60, Anti-Champion of Guns, "Knight of Bugbears", and Joke Champion of Venger. | Thanks, that's exactly what I was wondering. Note that this isn't a 'bug' or anything; its an intended part of the system. Just a counter-intuitive one. Standing on a door circle can be a very important defensive position. Until someone logs a grenade on the other side of the door :)

| There's some fantastic minis in the new Starwars set that would be perfect Tannhauser minis. All they need is a quick repaint.
