Gleemax Announcement
Wizards of the Coast today announced the decision to discontinue its Gleemax social networking site in order to focus on digital initiatives for core brands Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons.
“We have the two best games in the world,” said Randy Buehler, VP of Digital Games for Wizards of the Coast, “we need to take care of them before expanding into new digital arenas.”
Redirecting development resources accelerates the completion of new features and functionality for D&D Insider and Magic Online III.
“Wizards still believes in the vision for a social networking site dedicated to hobby gamers,” said Buehler. “We will continue to strive towards that vision through wizards.com.”

The plan is to shut things down somewhere around September. The WotC forums will eventually migrate back to wizards.com, and apparently the "board game portal" will still exist in some form.

It was supposed to be a replacement for their forums. As well as a hub for gamers to get together. I think they may have been planning on testing their e-tools there perhaps. Anyways the whole thing struck me as an attempt to make a Wotc controlled RPG.net type site. I could be very well wrong though.

It got a lot of flack as teh blog software was down signifcantly more than it was up, blogs were rolled back so even die hards trying to post would get fustratied at losing info.
Some were worried about ownership of ideas, as like most gaming company forums, (but unlike myspacefaceook) it owns the copyright of any creative stuff posted. | |
