I found the box art on the Hasbro site.  You can make out 9 of the ships on the side of the box art if you click on the large image.

This is the only info I see on the Wotc site:

Starship Battles

Due this November, the new Starship Battles minis game will allow you to recreate -- well, starship battles from the movies and the Expanded Universe.

  • The game will feature gargantuan ships, large ships, and medium ships, some with fire arcs.
  • Factions will include the Light Side (with round bases) and the Dark Side (with octagonal bases).
  • Stat cards for larger ships will have two sides. One side will feature stats for the ship at full strength; the other shows stats at reduced strength that apply after the ship has taken a certain amount of damage.
  • Currently, Starship Battles is a standalone game with no future expansions planned, but if it sells well, who knows what might happen?

  • With only 2 months until release I would expect to see more, maybe I just missed it.

The box art and the slides of concept art shown at GenCon is all ships from movies....Are there any Expanded Universe ships other than the big Calamarian Defender?

    Thats what I wanna know.

And I know that there are ships from Classic and Prequels. But there only seems to be 2 factions...Strange.

Not really...  with just 60 pieces (and only 2 Guargantuan's for the starter), it would be difficult to have a variety of pieces for 4+ factions.  Stick to good vs. evil, with fringers able to fight on either side.

    Works for me...

Outrider was mentioned there, too. I'd guess there might be some others too, like Tie Defender & later republic fighters. There isn't that much interesting spacecraft in the movies that they wouldn't find more interesting EU ships.

Lack of fringe is strange. I'd guess lots of players in non-tournament circumstances would limit usable ships anyway. AAM -like year of appearance would work great in this game.

Where did you see that it was a 60 mini set Pat?  I havnt seen anything about set size.

I found the following info posted by WotC Rob in this thread:
    http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=615572

The map is made up of 2" squares. Size class 1 and 2 ships take up 4 squares. Bases have a notch in them to indicate the front. Dark Side and Light Side have different shapes for bases to help differentiate which side a ship belongs on. I think it is octagons and circles, but it might be hexagons and circles. TIE fighters and X-wings are 1" and 1 9/16" long, respectively.

I thought this was interesting as well:

An all fighter fleet is not a possibility in the standard game. Someone could write a scenario where one or both sides were all fighters, but given the game in the box, that is not possible.

    Hello,

As far as we know the set is 60 minis, because the box art shown lists it as a 60 miniature set.  No official confirmation otherwise, however.

    Cheers

Here is some more interesting information.

It looks like some people are saying that Rob, and some press releases are saying the set size is 40.
