 The State that invented Spam!

| Ok a lot of time and effort was wasted. I'm killing my running a campaign because I want to try building a campaign from scratch like we were. I have a bunch of the programs they were using and well... I'd like to fiddle around with it.
Who wants to try this again?

| Is the problem that everyone has so different tastes, and have strong view of many things in the world? So, while the idea in theory is great, I think it's almost impossible to create a world that everyone is happy about.
Solution? Creating kind of module library. Towns, persons, magic items, countries, organisations, historical events, other things not tied to map. And some way to categorize them, give them keywords etc. This way, everyone can contribute something and take something that they can use in their own campaigns.
Of course people can make their own worlds out of these components and share them - so if the world matches someone's view, he can use it straight out.
Right now I'm making a world of my own mainly out of ready pieces - taken from Elric of Melnibone, Middle Earth, Rome and other historical stuff, Wheel of Time, Faerun, Greyhawk, Babylon 5 and others. So, there's old, waning empire of Melnibone where Hextor, Sune, Waukeen & Azuth are worshipped. Whitecloaks that worship 'The only true god, Helm', are gaining power and try to erase spellcasters from the world. So, lots of interesting things collected together to form my own world without too much work.
While I have a lot of stuff ready, I'm still looking a lot of original stuff. A resource library would work excellently, leaving the main development for myself and giving me details.

I would agree. Many of us wanted a more traditional tolkien type fantasy setting while others wanted magical flying cities and other different stuff.
If you start off with one person setting the tone so that everyone who participates understands the ground rules then I think it would work better than the free for all we had.
Sean-Khan's idea is intriguing as well.
I'm afraid I can't contribute. Just not enough hours in my day right now.

Sounds great. Far more likely to get input in snippets too imo. | | "Mutton yesterday, mutton today, and blimey, if it don't look like mutton again tomorrer." | | Well it appears all the new world stuff got its own place. I've been saving all maps and such. I also will be emailing all old members who were working on this project and hopefully we can start this up again and finish this great. | |
