Nope..My reson why is just a cut-and-paste from your other thread.

Im afraid I must say no to 4th edition.

I own almost every single book put out by WotC since 3rd edtion came out. Even the crap like the Map Folios and the Fantastic Locations.
I also own almost everything for the Kingdoms of Kalamar Campaign setting put out by Kenzer & co.
I have every single adventure modual put out by Necromancer Games.
I am trying to colect every Dungeon Crawl Classic adventure put out by Goodman Games (hard thing to do Im discovering).
I have all the Freeport pirate campaign stuff by Green Ronin.
I own Monte Cook's Ptolus.
I have every single issue of Dragon and Dungeon since the switch to 3rd edition.

If I played every day for 6 hours a day from now till I died I still wouldnt run out of material.

Ive invested so much into 3rd edition that it would be madness for me to jump to a new system.

I will of course peruse the 4th edition PHB to see what its like..But I have have to much 3rd edition stuff to have it become obsolete.

As for the Poll..You shouldnt really have 3 versions of "NO". You got No, No with an explanation why and a Sarcastic No.

And theres no "Maybe. I need to read the new PHB" and theres no "I will switch in 2010 but I wouldnt now. Its to soon"

It is far too soon for a new edition. 3e has at least 3 or 4 good years left in it. Even then, I would only buy a new edition if it was different enough and improved enough to make it worthwhile.

In short not now, and no 4th edition just for 4th edition's sake.

They need a new setting to sell more books not another edition or maybe a rules expansion .Some compendiums but not another edition of the same stuff. I must say that this has been the smoothest running D&D yet.

Nice Bias.

I don't spent $50.00 on D&D a month now, and I won't if 4e comes out in February of 2008 (when I think it will).  However, i'll explore the game, though I doubt that my home campaign will shift till it resolves itself.

If you have an agenda, start your own web Page DJ...  If you want peoples honest opinion, remove your bias...

Yeah not a very good set of survey choices.

You left off things like

"It depends on what changes"
"if it is relativley backwards-compatible and more akin to a 3.6 update"
"I'd have to read it first"
"I wouldn't switch initially, but eventually I would - my current games would continue in Z.x or whatever version they are currently in"

Bad survey = meaningless results.

I think I said similar last time, and dont think this is much of a pool

I have less than $50 USD invested in 3.x. So a fourth edition wont lose me anything.

It would all depend on what was in it, if it was better or worse, and how cheap I could get the off loaded 3.5 books :p

This isn't a stickied or even a Moderator Poll... This is my poll on my honest opinion for the 4th Edition.... If someone cares to make a good poll... I'll gladly sticky it for you.

I'm biased... I admit it. I don't like the idea of 4th Edition at all. I like 3.5

No, I wouldn't a won't buy a 4th edition, not now and not later. Not because "those corporate shmucks won't get my money", but rather because i need an exit point. I have enough material to play for the next 10 years already, so I'll remain faithful to a standard I appreciate.

I won't buy anything related to a 4th edition.

I have spent quite enough on 3rd (and some on old 1st and 2nd), and after 20+ years of gaming, I think this is it !!

I am quite happy with 3.5, and I don't play enough to buy new stuff...

I think WOTC would be VERY WELL ADVISED to hook new generations, new players to D&D, people from "emerging countries (China, India...), and not to throw something anew that would disgust old vets, and maybe much more players.

Finding new markets (i.e. new players), that's what WOTC really needs.

Gosh, more than 6 billions people living on this earth, english language becoming more & more a NEED (I am french), so that translation would not be compulsory.
It could be possible to find a few million people wanting to play D&D !?!

If people from WOTC read this, please, understand that by trying to "win" everything, you will end up by "losing very much"...

As a 25+ Year veteran of DnD, I have played DnD, ADnD, ADnD 2e, DnD 3.0 and DnD 3.5. It took me a year to even look at 3.0 when it came out, but when I did... WOW, I said to myself "This is what DnD should have always been." The 3.5 update was OK, there were a few things that needed tweaked. If 4.0 is a radical departure from DnD 3x then I won't play. Personally, I very much DISLIKE the True 20 system. I like my various polyhedrons. That being said, there are a few skills in the 3x set that do need fixed so that they are more of an opposed check (tumble should be harder against an epic monster) like bluff. Also, the game tends to break down at high levels, but it has always been like that, and probably always will. High level games get very "dicey."

In my professional opinion, WotC should NOT put out a 4E, but rather 3.x of the day, i.e. Core books with all errata and sage advice thrown in. call it 3.6, 3.7, 3.75 etc... The minute they put out a 4x version, they will alienate a huge portion of their fan base. Face it, 3x material has sold very well, if it is not broken, don't fix it. There is still so much they can do with 3x, we have only seen fiend compendiums 1 and 2. What about all the other outer planes, inner planes, etc.. They could put out 3x versions of fan classics like Dark Sun, Plane Scape, Spelljammer, Mystara, etc... I'm sure revisits to classic campaigns would be popular.

I have been happy with the miniatures and maps, I would really like to see them publish the maps in digital form so I can use them on the projector table. I am still mulling over the cost of a poster sized scanner ouch.

Did someone say Spelljammer???

OLD SCHOOL!!!

I was very into Spelljammer (back in the day), but I found the whole 'plane of gravity' thing to be pretty ridiculous, along with a lot of the other rules. What I did like was the concept as a whole, not to mention the cool new races and classes exclusive to the setting.

Rules can always improve. A 4th edition will eventually hit the shelves, but I don't think it's time for it now. 3.5 should still survive for some time. I think there still some campaigns or mega-like campaigns to be made in this edition as well as some other rules to be developed as naval battles rules.

I still think they have a lot that they can accomplish with this version. I would be apt to switch about 2010 or later, but 7 years is just too soon. It needs to be at least a decade, especially with the 3.5 release less than 4 years ago. (although i did like the release of 3.5, it needed to be done)

Also, I am looking forward to a new version, just so we can reset some of the power combo's in 3.5 (Pun-Pun, Artificer, etc.)

I think with the Rules Compendium coming out any new edition is a few years off. If you were going to update the entire edition, you wouldn't bother to put something like this out. Hard cover books just don't make enough money to warrant a move like that.

I do hope they don't wait too long. The other editions were out too long and it hurt them and the game.

I think a 4th edition, right now, could be the death of D&D as we know it.

I for one have spent countless $$ on 3x products and I will switch to one of the other game systems out there before replacing all the material I currently have.

Going from 2e-3e was no big deal because most of my 2e stuff I got as a kid and since I didn't have much money as a kid I had very little of it. Replacing 4 or 5 2e books with 3e was ok, but replacing 40+ 3e books just ain't gonna happen at this time. Maybe in another 10-20 years when I am tired of these books, but not in the near future.

Not very interestedI've already started to move into other games. I may still use D&D worlds and maybe play with the rules, but in general, I'm moving into True20 or Iron Heroes with my games. If I would have lots of extra money, I might be interested, but I don't feel there's real need for that.

You know those of us that have been playing for the last 25 years have seen alot of changes. The basic set was what I started with. Advanced is what I grew up playing. 2.0 sucked. 3.0/3.5 is what I play now

Now comes 4.0. I wouild be willing to check it out doubt I'll buy into it.

You know they should take the classics and reprint them in 3.5 rules and forget about making a 4.0.

In truth I find many of the things in 4th edition to be interesting.  I won't go into them here, but it has me excited.  I would have been more than happy to stick with 3.5, but now that 4th has been announced I can't help but be interested.Â

Unless it is extremely a broken unfulfilling game then I will switch to 4th.  Have to stay current for me.  New car, new clothes, new glasses.  Hey I don't want to be like my father in law with his skin tight shorts just below his gro.... ah forget I said that!

I voted for the not very enthusiastic yes. My gaming group is switching over - it a done deal. I have to buy the core books. From what I've heard there's a lot to be excited about in this new version. I would be excited except for all the money that I've spent on 3.0/3.5.

You know the funny part, 4 or 5 years from now, the next generation of hardcore D&D players will be playing 4th edition and they will be mocking all the old fogies who refuse to switch from 3/3.5 in almost exactly the same way that this generation mocks the people who still play 1st or 2nd edition.

Hopefully 4 or 5 years from now D&D will still be recognizable as D&D. So many people seem to want to change what D&D fundamentally is and turn the game into something different.

I agree. The rules changes I've heard about don't bother me. I haven't played with the new rules and many of the vague things that I've read sound cool or at least interesting enough for me to give a chance. It might play better than what we're using now.

Changing the fluff is bothersome to me though.  Demons and Devils work the way they are - there's no reason to change that. Unless their intention is to make the Fiendish Codex's I got for Christmas obsolete so they can sell me new ones.

I never made the switch from my heavily house-ruled 1E/2E hybrid game to 3.x. I did buy the PHB, MM, and DMG, gave them a careful read, played a few sessions with the rules and, along with my players, decided we liked the old game better. When the Castles & Crusades system was in play-test, we participated in it. We liked that it and switched to that system. I will buy a 4.0 PHB and give it a fair evaluation. If it fits the style of play my group enjoys, I will use it. If not, the book will end up on eBay and we'll continue to enjoy the C&C rules.

The only thing I buy from WOTC these days is miniatures. As long as they continue to make recognizable to me versions for the monsters and characters in my campaign, I'll continue to purchase them. If that changes, thankfully Reaper Miniatures is starting make prepainted figures.

Regards,

V

Its still fantasy role playing. Fantsay Role Playingd oesnt equal D&D.

Otherwise MERPS/Role Master/Rifts/Shadow Run/Etc etc are all D&D.
