My only 'issue' with 4e is the self realization that I'm a fossil and the designers are moving the game to a place that I don't really want to go to.  I hope it works out for WotC.

I'm right there with ya Kyle. Let's form a support group!!!!

I was kind of leery about 4e, but every single change has basically been pointed at things that I have wanted them to change. So I am optimistic, to say the least.

I am not gone.

As a Delegate who was at XP, I can say clearly that there was NO Delegate meeting, so first:  Any statement was made to the general public, or simply in a conversation one on one...  My point being that if the general public is quoting the same thing (2010), seems like it was more likely a misunderstanding.

Further:  It is actually ILLEGAL, for a pubicly traded company to reveal much information about future product, as it can have an impact on the companies stock.  Being a "long way off" sounds perfectly reasonable (i.e. 15 months...) From an SEC filing kind of thing....

The General Public isn't saying 2010. Heck, the informed posters aren't saying 2010.

Scott Rouse was misquoted as saying "through 2008", as Olaf notes above.

This delegate who says he was told 2010... this is the first I've heard of this. And I pay a lot more attention to rumours of 4e than most people. It hasn't been discussed at all. We've had a lot of people talking about when 4e would be coming on both Wizards and EN World, and I would have expected to see the "The delegates have been told 2010" at least once.

Cheers,
Merric

Yea, rereading what I wrote, I wasn't very clear.  One guy is claiming 2010 was said.  There was No delegate Meeting (Thus "delegates" couldn't have been told anything), and 2010 wasn't said in the D&D Seminar held on Thursday...

Bad rumors....

Um... They'll show the good stuff, but pass over the bad. However, if you don't like something as a DM, change it. ;) Rule 0!!!

I always try to send through delivery confirmation, and I expect the same. It's only 55 cents extra, so it's just a little more than a pay phone call, so just do it for the Kai. I prefer to trade with people in the US and Canada, sorry everyone else.

Bingo! All you really need are the base mechanics. The extra books are helpful, but truly, everything is optional.

Fine in theory, more problematic in reality. I've found that the more you house rule things, the smaller your player base becomes. Fine, some will say, get new players. Again, fine in theory, more problematic in reality. I have a group of guys that I want to game with. I don't want to find another group.

A lot of players don't want changes. They want to play what's in the books. Not to mention that if I, as the DM, decide I don't like a certain class and forbid it in my game, I'm the bad guy because I'm taking choices away from my players. And isn't that the point of modern D&D anyway, giving players more choices not restricting them?

I can just see the arguments already as I disallow the Teifling only to have players whine because it's now core. Well, it's not my core.

Actually, if there's a problem, the DM has every right to change or ban something. As a DM, I don't allow wish to be freely taken. You have to quest for it. Same goes for Miracle. And the 3.0 Haste still works fine, because players I have DMed for or gamed with never broke it. And what about changes that are beneficial? I don't like how they did sorcerers, so I allow metamagic feats to apply normally with a sorcerer. Which means if a sorcerer wishes to quicken a spell, she can. Whatever is broke, or just doesn't work, I fix. And there's really never any complaints. After all I have no players casting walls of iron and fabricating them into an armload of weapons to sell. I have no players that multiclass with 5 different classes so at 5th level they're an unstoppable monster. I have no players that argue with me when I make a ruling. If they have a problem, they bring it up after the session. Of course, I won't make a ruling just to hurt another player. So am I fair? Yes. Do I put up with BS? No. So, come up with something cool, then by all means do so! But come up with something that the rules obviously didn't intend, I will make my rule 0 then.

I guess you need to decide which is more important. Your vision of the game, or playing games with your friends. Everyone makes those choices.
