Warhammer Fantasy:  7th edition
Ars Magica: 5th edition
Shadowrun: 4th edition
Vampire the Masquerade/Requim: 4th edition
Champions: 5th edition
GURPS: 4th edition

On the flip side, the Palldium games only have one or two editions.  It must be because they have such great mechanics that they can't be improved upon.  ::

I don't think that all games have this big changes. I believe 4E is going to be a big one... Besides, how many games have .5 editions?

Pointing out the editions of other games is something of a canard. Why? Well...

First of all, there are more editions of D&D than four. For those of us that have been in since the red and blue boxes (or even EARLIER), we know that this will actually be... what... 7th edition? (If you count the box sets as one and the prior game as an edition, too.)

Secondly, the investment in D&D is much greater than most of those games. Even Shadowrun - which has a lot of supplemental rulebooks - doesn't reach the level of books most of us have bought for 3.5.

Third, the D&D footprint is much larger - that is, the number of players that will have to change rulebooks is many times the number of other games.

Finally, many of those other games upgraded because they had truly flawed systems. 3.5 may be a bit kludgey, but I wouldn't call it truly flawed.

Meh, as long as 4E is an improvement, I can't see much reason to complain. They've tried a lot with new books, but in the end, you can only fix so much before the main books need overhauled. I will say, I wish it was one more year till it came out, meaning spring '09.

Zing!

Seriously though, out of that lot..... Gurps is the only one I still have and play.  A good chunk of that is because earlier books are still largely compatible with my earlier gurps stuff.

Vtms I dropped like a stone when they started with the newer editions.  The rest of those games.... well I frankly don't have anything good to say about them realy.

At least two more years would sit a lot better with me, but moot point.

Whatever.
Not all games that go through revisions are an improvement over previous editions.

Hear Hear!!! The "newer" editions of Rolemaster, Vampire, Twilight: 2000, Car Wars and others were horrible...they did exactly what WotHasbro is doing with D&D - dumbed it down. And in all the cases I listed, the games tanked...

I liked the new edition of Car Wars.  Frankly if it was dumbed down... I'm frightened to think what the older rules looked like.

The older Car Wars rules were very easy - but some ppl didn't like having to use a calculator for car design...so they changed it...
