| I don't know if I'll like an over-simplified version of D&D but I don't think it's a mistake to design it that way. They're trying to make more money by appealing to a larger audience.
I'm in the service industry. If you ask any of my employee's why they're nice to stupid people they will tell you that stupid people have money too and we want them to spend it at our restuarant.
WOTC wants to make more money. By designing a game that appeals to only smart people with long attention spans they limit the amount of money that they can make. | | Champion of Gromph Baenre

| | I have honed most of my writing and math skills playing D&D. But I learned how to add large columns of numbers and quick math in my head by playing D&D, not in math class. For Truth!
D&D enables a heck of a lot of learning.

Well, I know of at least one 9 INT barbarian amongst my friends who can do math because of 3E, but couldn't grasp 2E.
I think that the benefits of D&D are there no matter how it's done, as long as it's not an MMO. Anytime you encourage reading and active use of the mind,, you'll see increasing intelligence.
Personally, I think the dice limit is to make for a faster game, not a slower demographic.

If it's one or the other then Teflon is probably right. There's no reason it can't be for both reasons though. | | Champion of Gromph Baenre

Silly Jeff: it's the the singular form of gees. | | You know, I keep thinking that after the new design team gets done with D&D 4e, D&D won't stand for Dungeons and Dragons anymore, because well, that's just not fun. It's old and stuffy. - Originally Posted by BabWryter on Kenzerco.com
