| | I'm not likely to be buying into the 4th edition.... however there is always the posibility I might try it in the future. Right now I'm not overly fond of the D20 system and the glut of scourcebooks for 3.5. So in the mean time I'm going to be sticking with other systems. | | Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul | |

| I'm in the undecided camp. I think it looks good, but looks can be deceiving :) I'll assuredly wait and see the final product before taking a decision. If the product appeals to me, then sure i'll switch. If not, then i'll stick with 3.5, and perhaps house-rule a couple of things into it if 4.0 brings about a few good ideas.

| I voted:
Yes, probably. I'll have to test it but it already looks good.
but in reality, the choice I'd have liked to see included on the poll would have been:
Yes, eventually I'll switch but I can't afford to shell out almost $100 for the three core books right now and 3.5 works good enough for me till I can.

| I may pick up the core books after they've all come out but will be in no hurry.
When WotC converted to 3.0 I got around to picking up the core books so I could keep playing the adventures received with my Dungeon Magazine subscription. Beyond that I picked up the Realms setting book and two splat books which isn't much.
I actually think 3.5 was a great thing although I didn't have all the supplemental materials. Some of the problems were fixed yet it is still easy enough to convert from 3.0. I don't feel the need for all the supplemental material but the Complete class series just feels better that there 3.0 counterparts and I do like the creature type series started by the Draconomicon.
Because WotC pulled the rights to Dungeon and Dragon from Piazo my subscription will not carry me into 4.0 like it did with 3ed. Too bad for them that the 14 issues I had remaining would definitely have left some incentive to get the 4.0 books. Right now I'm considering the core books once they are all out but seeing the StarWars has gained new life it will probably getting the attention that would have gone to DnD.

| The assurance that there will not be a 4.5 is based on the assumption that 4.0 is a good game with as few problems as possible that has been playtested extensively to get all the kinks out.
From what I understand 3.5 came about because of lack of playtesting for 3.0. Hopefully they're not going to make that mistake this time. I'm cautiously optimistic but it seems as though a lot of the rules are still being written for 4.0 as they're playtesting it. I would be more optimistic if the rules were already written and they were making changes as needed. I have no experience with writing rules or playtesting them or the length of time needed to do either correctly - but I would assume more the more time taken with playtesting the better. | | Champion of Gromph Baenre

This has probably escaped most of you (and I learned it this summer quite by chance) : http://www.gameplanet.co.nz/mag.dyn/News/11982.html
(You'll probably find this info on various stockmarket related sites too)
That means D&D is here to stay, at least until 2017. I think there are two possibilities : - either D&D (and everything related) sells well until that year and a new edition will come at this point, to adapt it to the new generation. - or it doesn't, pen and paper D&D RPG flops and then I think Hasbro may sell the license to... someone.
But I have no doubt that there will be a 4.5 (or something like that) around 2013. Do you really think they can produce successful books almost every month for 10 years ?
And BTW, after what happened at this year's GenCon, do you still trust everything WotC say ? | | Vindicated Champion of the PSEUDODRAGON (Unhappy) vindicated champion of the DRYAD Against the giants called shot : huge cloud giant female Demonweb called shot : ghost

| If hasbro still want to have a D&D license to sell in 2017, they'll need to have the pen and paper game successfull until at least 2017. If the game flops in between, nobody will ever care to get a D&D license anymore (and this license is a multi-million bucks business for Hasbro. In fact I suspect them to have bought WotC mainly for this...) Unless they intend to have D&D go 100% digital before 2017, i.e. a 4.5 digital version in 2013... | | Vindicated Champion of the PSEUDODRAGON (Unhappy) vindicated champion of the DRYAD Against the giants called shot : huge cloud giant female Demonweb called shot : ghost | |
