Allright, here's the Thread for any rumors you've heard about the new edition from Friends, Family, Flgs etc....  The rumors can be as outragous as possible, they just have to be one you overheard or was told.  I'll start us off.

1) Wotc is trying to turn 4th edition into a new World of Warcraft.

I don;t realy like Bacon myself.  Yet another reason not to buy into it I guess.

Cool! So, you'r elike, one PC and you've got this "stuffed" familiar that comes to life when you want it to? Or only when no one else is around? Tha tcould be hard with a whole adventuring party around...And are they only going to be tigers? Could I get, say, a stuffed bulette for my "stuffie"?

Actually, I heard 4th ed is going to be so good, Gary Gygax & Dave Arneson are going to declare it "the real D&D", start running new "Greyhawk" and "Blackmoor" campaigns using only 4E rules, and kiss and make-up live on the DDI!!!

In all seriousness, I heard a rumor that they are re-releasing Deathknell and that all the Deathknell minis (except for maybe a few) won't be included in the 2.0 reprinted stat cards...oh, wait...that's not a rumor is it?

You make that sound like a bad thing

Eberron will be changing its name to "Eberrun" and will be incorporating even more steampunk elements (warforged really are robots).

Planescape will be the new default campaign setting.

Large Dire Chickens will finally be replacing the standard Riding Horse as the default mount in the PHB. Weapons will be ridiculously large. Hair will be ridiculously emo.

4.0 finally does away with gender classifications. Everyone is wonderfully amiguous.

Yoshitaka Amano is being retained as the lead concept designer for the MM.

The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner and RPG designer from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute and RPGA certified DM named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark and THAC0. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons, D&D every night. In the spring we'd make meat helmets for LARP. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag, forced to walk the walk of a thousand four siders, and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe, which was very handy for D&D. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles for LARP. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

ampersand = &

like "ampers" + "and"? In that case: what are "ampers"?

Sorry about the confusion, but I did a masters degree in English literature and never met the word.

Or (which I fear) does it refer to French "En passant", meaning "By the way"?

Bill Slavicsek explains it here.

I always thought we should have a magazine called “&”. After all, it worked so well for Dungeon and Dragon that it just seemed to me that we were losing an opportunity to make use of the bit that brings it all together. So, until we figure out what to actually do with that recognizable little ampersand, I’m going to use it as the identifier for my regular feature here at D&D Insider.

Ok, it symply refers to the symbol "&"  then, I'm still curious about the history of the word though.
