IIRC it will require a license to use so i don't know if it will bge available on-line. I don't think it will be. And no doubt requiring us to pay for the priviledge right? Yeah, that's great news. | | I don't like 4e but I may consider getting it at some point. They did say that they would be coming out with an updated version every year. So to make things easy, why not just wait a few years until the core books 3 or 4 comes out? I've definitely got enough 3.5 material to last until then. | | Champion of the Lamia www.tygrhobbes.com

| heh... Yeah... Let's see here:
Core 3e books, everything you'd really need or want is in those three books.
Core 4e books, well... What's up with them? If they're going to dump core things into other books, why? Why not do 4e like 3e? It'd sell better too. | | Just a simple traveler from the swamps of Dagobah otherwise known as Florida. Also known as Hurricane Alley! | If they believed that the 3E model would sell better than the 4E model then they would apply it to 4E. So obviously they believe that the yearly update of core books will in fact sell better.

| Here's something constructive:
They have Tiefling as core... Why not the Aasimar? And where is the Aasimar at? And is the reason they're not core is because they're not demonic like the Tiefling? C'mon... | | Just a simple traveler from the swamps of Dagobah otherwise known as Florida. Also known as Hurricane Alley! I always try to send through delivery confirmation, and I expect the same. Actually, it's because their concept art wasn't as cool. | | This new learning amazes me Sir Bedevere. Explain again how sheep's bladders may be employed to prevent earthquakes. -King Arthur Life is pain and we have to scrape the joy out of it every chance we get. -Rod Kimble

I fear that may be truer than we think.

| I think that if they had included both Tieflings and Aasimar people would have complained anyway.
4E is a new game, like 3E was as compared to 1E (i won't discuss 2E that i don't know that well). New creatures, new classes, new mechanics. New races. I don't see why they should feel they are under the obligation to include Aasimar in 4E just because 3E (another game) had them in a same entry with Tieflings in its MM. I feel this would have been a very unwise decision myself. You don't design a new game based on fluff from an old game for the sake of keeping the fluff the same. You design it as best you can, and if you can make the fluff correspond then you can consider keeping it if you feel it fits.
When designing 4E, they can either re-do 3E in which case there is no reason to do a new game, or bring new stuff into the game. They're doing the latter and since they are doing a new game, i'm glad for it. Show me what you can do that might bring a breath of fresh air to the gaming table.
So 4E is about a new game. Call it D&D or don't call it D&D, that's besides the point IMO (is 3E D&D when you compare it to 1E? IMO it's pretty darn different and the gaming sessions' dynamics are quite different). But in any event, it will differ from 3E and many things will be removed from it and many other things will be added to it. I have the impression that every single element that is being touched from 3E except for grappling rules brings an outcry of injustice, as if people were surprised that things would be changed from 3E.
