My personal opinion is that the core books should be dirt cheap, and the supplements should be more expensive (kind of the deal with drugs, you know?). | | "Clearly a case of too many hunchbacks and not enough mad scientists..."

| | 02/14/2008 12:27 PM | Alert | | Price increases are sadly, inevitable. | | The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner and RPG designer from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute and RPGA certified DM named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark and THAC0. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons, D&D every night. In the spring we'd make meat helmets for LARP. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag, forced to walk the walk of a thousand four siders, and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe, which was very handy for D&D. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles for LARP. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

True enough. However there will be some of us that will not be effected by the price hike. | | Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing. Robert E. Howard

| | 02/15/2008 4:27 AM | Alert | I'm in Australia. Thanks to a good exchange rate the 4E core rulebooks are actually 33% cheaper for me this time around. I paid AUD$60 each for the 3.5E PHB, DMG and MM. I just received an e-mail today from a game store in Australia I sometimes order from. They are selling the 4E core rulebooks for AUD$40 each (or only AUD$38 if you preorder). | | 02/15/2008 6:39 AM | Alert | | reasonable. everything goes up in price. Gallon of milk is $4.00. hardcover novel is around $25. video games are $50. The 4th ed core book will be used more often than all of the others mentioned above so for me its not a big deal. Its just more ammo for the people who have no interest in 4th edition anyway | | The ROCK layeth the smacketh down. | | 02/15/2008 4:42 PM | Alert | $35 seems pretty reasonable. I was hoping that $30 would be the go (more sold means a decent chance of lower costs) but I'm fne with $35. Besides, most people will get some sort of discount.

I went 22 months, before getting a .20 raise.
But Contract renegotiation is this summer. Hoping for a big raise.

| | 02/23/2008 6:14 AM | Alert | Well, again, it comes down to entertainment dollars per hour for me.
I imagine that if each core book costs $35, then the total I'll spend will be closer to $70. I'll find them discounted somewhere.
And I know that I'll be getting way more than 70 hours of fun out of them. Probably way more than 700 hours. Probably way more than 7,000 hours.
So, the hours of fun I get, per dollar, is an awesome return.

| | 02/28/2008 9:02 AM | Alert | My group only meets a few times a month now, and I'll still get more than enough hours out of it.
Logically, though, the hours have to be divided by all costs incurred for the activity, including splatbooks and minis. Still a great deal. As i tell the wife, that money spent isn't quite entirely spent, because I can get some return for it. Try to resell your movie ticket
