I'm thinking wotc should put out an Advanced 4th Edition rulebook, for those that want a more 3.5e feel.

After playing 4E I think it is a game made for children, it is so dumbed down anyone can play which makes for a weak game.

After playing 4E I think it is a game made for children, it is so dumbed down anyone can play which makes for a weak game.

Here's weak:

Each character class specializes in one of four basic functions in combat: control and area offense, defense, healing and support, and focused offense. The roles embodied by these functions are controller, defender, leader, and striker. The classic adventuring party includes one character of each role: wizard, fighter, cleric, and rogue.
Character roles identify which classes can stand in for each other. For example, if you don’t have a cleric in your party, a warlord serves just as well in the leader role.

Usually a leader is one with the highest Charisma and usually a character such as a bard. That's a good leader, who dabbles with healing, offense, and can captivate foes. Too bad the bard isn't in 4e. They'd probably dumb it down to the point of being unplayable anyways...

As if we needed to have a definition of these roles..... A wizard or a fighter could be just as good a leader as any other class.

And this is pretty childish:

Play a dragonborn if you want . . .
to look like a dragon.
to be the proud heir of an ancient, fallen empire.
to breathe acid, cold, fire, lightning, or poison.
to be a member of a race that favors the warlord,
fighter, and paladin classes.

But the truth is, they know that with the current state of the economy, us Middle Class people have other things to pay for, like bills. So they're trying to entice not the teens, but the pre-teens, so they can have devoted gamers for about 10-20 years. They've already reeled us in (Except that I'm not going to buy into 4e, 3e is just better with many more options to do in just the 3e PHB alone and no additional SPLAT books. I don't like not having the option to multiclass. I have played to 45th level once and it took a few years to do so. 21st level wizard, 19th level cleric, 5th level archmage.

I always try to send through delivery confirmation, and I expect the same. It's only 55 cents extra, so it's just a little more than a pay phone call, so just do it for the Kai. I prefer to trade with people in the US and Canada, sorry everyone else.

Just a friendly reminder that flaming is NOT tolerated on these forums.

If you don't like 4e that's fine. If you are tired of hearing complaints about 4e that's fine too. Just ease up on the name calling. Thanks.

Unfortunatly I won't be posting too much onto that.

I picked up the core rules and played in the @#$%&@ games day demo scenario.  4th ed is distinctly not to my liking.  The fact that today's "demo game for beginners" resulted in a TPK for us didn't help matters.

well the adventures weren't designed very well...  not that they had time...  I was at the table that James Wyatt DM'd and he talked occasionally about how much fun he had designing the adventures...  THE PREVIOUS THURSDAY!  thats (lets count) 1, 2, 3 days before the game day itself he was designing both demo adventures.  So really that shouldn't be a reason you didn't like 4E but a reason you didn't like Game Day.

and that white dragon counts as 5 3rd level monsters as far as challenge...  lol.

Trying to steer this thread back on course, I suppose that I'm not sure what you mean by an advanced rulebook, Greyhaze. I understand wanting to capture more of the 3.5 flavor, but what do you mean by that specifically? Are you looking for things like the Great Wheel cosmology? With a little work, that could be put back in (it's really just fluff).

Adding the diagonals back into the game might have a major mechanical impact (I'd have to play around with it), but do you really need a new $35 book to let you add the fluff back in? Heck, you can do that for free! :)

Except that when fluff changes are made they become default and players expect them to be there. Change that and then whiny players complain because they can't play a Dragonborn. "But it's in the PH????!!!??? Why can't I play it??????"

Additionally, the default 4e fluff is now hardwired into every official D&D release, thus making it harder to swap out for older stuff. I'm not saying it can't be done but it requires some effort and you run the risk of player opposition.

I agree that it might be harder to incorporate major fluff changes, but as for your hypothetical whiny player, just beat them around the head with your DMG and remind them who's running the game.  :)

Th DM can clearly state up front. this is my houserule campaign and i dont want Dragonborn or Tieflings in it. Its not a a bad idea Greyhaze to have an advanced book for those who need the fluff. It doenst have to cost $35 and could be a PDF. look for someone down the line to probably at ENworld or elsewhere to create 1.

Teflon Jeff, a third party can't touch greyhawk, forgotten realms, or any of the other settings because they are owned by WotC. Those that do face copyright infringement.

But like most other people, I can care less about fluff. It's more game mechanics than anything.

It would of course, contain some game mechanic changes, afterall the idea is "advanced". Copyrights would have to be figured out.

I'm not advocating using one of those settings. but a 4E ruels mechanic with 3.5 flavor (angels, cosmology, races, etc.)could sell well in it's own generic setting.

And a lot of the complaints I hear are over the fluff, not the mechanics. The "feel' of the new edition, not the crunch.
