| I just started a Lankhmar game tonight with the Umass Gaming club. It's a pretty much human only Fantasy setting, very decedant and moraly grey. So far the party consists of a Warlock (star), a Mage, a Rogue (brute), a Warlord and a Cleric of Mog (spidergod of spite). The sample combat session went pretty well. The group was attacking a ruined fortification (dwarven outpost) being used as a base for some Kidnappers.Â
Four of the players (the Warlord had to leave early) went against the folowing: Bandit leader (2nd level human Bandit), His "pet" rat (Dire rat with an Int of 12), Five Bandits with clubs (human rabble 2) and two Bandits with bows (human rabble 2). The minion rules made the combat quick, run and cinimatic. The Bandit Leader took out two of the party with some help from the rat, flanking and dazing striking the cleric twice.
As I mentioned in the other thread, we experinced some dificulty in finding rules in the PHB. As well as frequently flipping through to find their at will abilities. For the next session we should have some index cards rigged up with each characters at will, encounter and daily powers.

| Great avatar Cthulhufnord :D
I'm converting my Ptolus -campaign that is still in the beginning to 4E. I'm going to run a few one-shots first with out-of-campaign characters to get the players familiar with the system and give a better picture of the city. I started the game with true20, but it didn't work as well as I hoped for.
Not sure about all characters - there will probably be many as everyone's busy, so we can get 3-4 players together from time to time. One will be human wizard or warlock (was sorcerer-type), an ex accountant. Another is a Lady, heir of a lesser noble family - not sure yet if she'll be fighter or warlord. One just told he changes his centaur away and said Warlock sounds intersting, no more details yet. One dwarf was an engineer -type, so we'll see if it's possible even to try a conversion. There's one (IIRC half-elf) merchant -> rogue most likely, and one elven cleric that never actually got into the game in True20. There's likely to be at least one more character.
I'm planning on running through the basic adventures provided with the book, Banewarrens and Night of Dissolution. After those, there's plenty of material for some epic playing... | | Vindicated AtG Called shot: 2nd Huge Red Dragon My collected trade reference links Star Wars tactical combat -project My modelling/terrain pages Suomen miniatyyrikeräilijät / Miniature collectors of Finland | |

| I'm thinking of keeping printing the abilities onto card stock, which should keep the size down, as I can then cut it down.

| I snagged some blank ability cards from somewhere and have printed them out onto cardstock. Now all my players need to do is fill them in.

| I ran the first real session for the group tonight. They had three battles, each about 500xp each. The first was against a couple of Rat Swarms, Seven Giant Rats(minions) and Two Giant Rats(Brutes) with Human Intelligence. The Rat Battle was just about the scariest for them, esp since the Warlock got tricked into walking into a diversionary Ambush. In the end they killed all but one of the Rats (a Brute that high-tailed it). Most of the Players were bloodied or worse, having both a cleric and Warlord healing them in tandum was very worthwhile.
The Second Encounter may have had too many eggs in one basket. There were Four Human Cultists (Human Rabble0, a Wizard and a Bezerker. All of the Rat cultists rolled poorly on initiaive and got pounched on. The Bezerker went down only after dealing massive damage to the party's tank (Warlord). In the end the Wizard fled but was caught in Rat form by the party.
The Third encounter was some minion Skeletons and a couple of Skeletal warriors. The Cleric turned only one of the minions, the party delt with the rest.

| It was pretty fun actually. I'd say with the break for food and getting the group set up I'd say it was about three hours of solid gaming. The Rat fight was really fun for me , the other two fights more fun for the players. In two weeks when I run it again I'll have some traps and PC class NPCs to cross swords with.
