| More stuff to try collecting. And I has work that day! Well, here's the text (BOLD text mine):
It’s true—Free RPG Day is taking place this Saturday, June 21st, at a participating friendly local gaming store near you. Wizards of the Coast is proud to be part of the event, offering a unique 4th Edition adventure (Treasure of Talon Pass), adventure tile, and miniature. In Treasure of Talon Pass, the player characters explore an ancient mountain garrison in search of a jade chalice reputed to be worth a small fortune. But the path to the jade chalice isn’t easy. A dragon and its kobold minions have taken up residence in the garrison, and undead soldiers still haunt its halls as well. Nor are the PCs the only ones seeking the jade chalice. A band of orc mercenaries known as the Nightfists are after the chalice… and they arrive at the dungeon only minutes before the PCs. Treasure of Talon Pass is designed to take 2nd-level characters to 3rd level. It is full of familiar features of the Dungeons & Dragons game, including traps, tricky kobolds, an evil wizard, and of course, a dragon. |

| I went to Free RPG Day, but unfortunately there were some limitations put on by the FLGS as to how much we could take. Only one D&D item was allowed per person, so I had to pick between the mini (Lurking Wraith repaint) and tile sheet, or the adventure. So I picked the mini and tiles.
I scanned the tile sheet before punching them so you all could see what it looks like: http://www.geocities.com/sweaterhugger/tiles.jpg | | Trade references: http://www.maxminis.com/Forums/tabid/104/forumid/53/postid/801085/view/topic/Default.aspx Trades on WotC: vandyfry, hothie(pending)

| It is double sided. However the arena and other tiles are just stone squares on the other side. The open door however is a closed door if you flip it over.

Pretty soon after gameday, would of been nice to keep mommentum going. It was all over Canada as well. At least I assume it was since 2 out 4 games stores here in London had free swag to give out. The WotC freebie was great - modules, tile sheet and a mini. I also liked Paizo's and Goodman Games' offerings. In addtion to those three I got a Traveller mini rulebook, an Iron Heroes intro adventure and a mini rulesbook on Hunter: The Vigil but White Wolf. Our game stores also had sales on their regular stock. A really great day overall!

| | Did other stores allow all three WotC items at once? My store limited it to either the adventure or the tiles and mini. I would like to have gotten the adventure too. Instead I got the Traveller book. It kind of brought back memories of a computer game I used to play when I was a kid called Megatraveller, based on the Traveller RPG but made for the computer. Getting the free book has made me interested in getting more of the game to see what it is like. | | Trade references: http://www.maxminis.com/Forums/tabid/104/forumid/53/postid/801085/view/topic/Default.aspx Trades on WotC: vandyfry, hothie(pending) | |

| Those aren't scalpers, I think you'll find that the vast majority of those being sold on EBay are by 2 stores, because the same names keep showing up over and over running the auctions. Aldo (the guy who organizes it) is not pleased... And, just to make it easier, since only one store in Rochester NH was running free RPG day, it's pretty easy to see who is selling most of them (dsb1070 does seem to be that one...)
And to think, I could have followed the path laid out for me and made tons of money off Free RPG day. Lesse, around $20 PER 4.0 module and tiles, that's an insane profit there... | | Gryfalia's Aerie Bloomington/Normal's only dedicated Game Store! www.gryfaliasaerie.com forums.gryfaliasaerie.com

I think it's great you distribute everything you receive.    The problem is WotC making collectible products that customers cannot purchase.    If they made leftovers for sale to stores and customers (or free PDF download) after the event this wouldn't happen to such a degree.      Â

| Oh, don't get me wrong, I think it would be GREAT if everyone got one, and I wish stores all over the place got involved with it. But with the amounts that this guy is selling, it seems most likely that instead of using them as intended (to give away at the store), they are instead being sold. If he was really trying to 'help people out' he would offer them at a very low price, but each auction he sells causes him to bump his prices up higher... There are no less than 8 stores in Central Illinois that would fit the normal bill for FRPG day, and only one was involved. So either Aldo needs to get the word out better, or stores need to buy-in more. I certainly can't complain, since I got new people from the nearby cities in my store, but I'm happy having a vibrant community across the region... | | Gryfalia's Aerie Bloomington/Normal's only dedicated Game Store! www.gryfaliasaerie.com forums.gryfaliasaerie.com | |

| I think that is a pretty weak thing to say. They are promos to promote an event. You go, you get rewarded. I have no problem at all with WotC making and handing out free swag for those who are able to go. Your beef should lie soley with those that don't give away the stuff and those who are willing to buy it for stupid amounts of money.Â

And these promos aren't required for play. They have the same stats. It's not like some other compabies that require some sort of insane attendance to get an exclusive piece.

| Some of my FLGS were not aware of free RPG day. Only the store in Greenfield, which had participated last year did anything.

I think it's great they support the stores.   If there are a few stores ebaying everything and not giving away to customers, then they should get their distribution of swag reduced.      The way to solve it though would be to make more supply available after the event so those who couldn't attend still have a chance to get it.        If there is a very small distribution, then WotC is creating a "chase" promo and only encouraging it to be put on ebay. | | Completed Trades: drowdude, brooklynknight, Xikilm, King CroMag, VultureDoodle, Captain Harlock, Cha0tic g0od x2, Stabmastaarson, Kritter, Son of Cyric, Shadow Lord, ckissee, cavedweller, Trilistria, LabMonkey, qillan_dvra, Lady-Bast, agcooper1, Dwarven Emperor + dozens more (newest in system)

So you think WotC should short change stores? "I'm sorry, 10 of you showed up, but I only have 2 to give away." That totally blows holes all in your argument.Â
Also, give it a little time, and all those chase promos (like previous retailer kits and gameday minis) will cost just a bit more than their normal counterpart.

No, forgive my hasty typing.  You misunderstood I was actually making 2 points.  I meant if WotC thought one store was abusing their allocation (ie reselling them all and not giving any away), then reducing their allocation for that one store (not all stores) would stop that problem. Â
However, what I meant in my other point, is that it would be better to increase every store's allocation and allow them all to sell off any extra's after the event.  That would allow those who couldn't attend the event to obtain them with creating a chase rare.

| | Sorry I misread that. I do agree that WotC should somehow police their swag (if that is even possible). I'm not sure a store is even allowed to sell off swag they get from WotC; I think it is supposed to all be given away at some point. | | Originally posted by Schooly_D Username - he deals in minis Champion of Lhesh Haruuc Shaarat'kor | |

Correct. If you know of a store selling their swag, you should notify merchant relations.
