| After reading the Dungeoncraft articles on the Wizard's site (I know they are a few months old, but they piqued my interest), I have decided to take a stab at creating a 4E campaign, and I'd like some help if possible.
Here's what I was thinking so far:
The PCs are either from or temporarily residing (I'd prefer the former) in a town called Overbrook, so named because of the stream that runs through it. The town has been known for its export of produce, from the nearby Old Orchard. However, of late the harvest from the orchard has come back either in short supply, or in very bad quality. The town's leader had sent some investigators to find out what had happened, but none had returned for some time.
That is, until the leader of the group comes back afflicted by some condition. And he/she was followed by some evil creatures that attack the town. This prompts the town's leader to send the PCs out to stop the attacks and find out what happened at the orchard.
What I'd need some help/suggestions with is this: I don't have the MM (yet)...what would make a logical/reasonable monster to face the PCs at the orchard, both on the way and when they get there? The PCs would be at 1st level, so I don't want to put something too difficult, but something that would fit the story.
I'd like to put a dungeon in to the setting, so I'd probably, for the first encounters, have an opening in the ground of the orchard that hadn't been there before, leading down until a subterranean lair for the creatures I was wondering about.
I'll ask for more feedback and help later on after I establish these first roots. I'm excited about this, but I've never designed anything beyond a one shot dungeon crawl (1st or 2nd ed.-style) before. | | Trade references: http://www.maxminis.com/Forums/tabid/104/forumid/53/postid/801085/view/topic/Default.aspx Trades on WotC: vandyfry, hothie(pending) | |

| Well how about some sort of Fairy Menace? The Orchard could have been originally part of a magical circuit that kept the Fairy Mound asleep and pacified. Now that it's been disrupted more of the Fae are waking up to a World much changed and not to their taste.
