| I used Thunderwave on a group of minions the other day, and killed them. The DM decided that the Deathstrike would go off before the push... having seen these minions use the deathstrike prior to moving next to them, I would have used the flameblast spell instead, but figured the push would factor in first as it's part of the damage. Sure it was ballzy, but I was trying to take the heat off of my allies by pushing guys away, and presenting another target (myself).
So, I guess I'm wondering, who was right?
Damage + Push, then Death, then Deathstrike?

| Well, when a power's special effect is listed after 'hit', that tends to imply that the damage happens first before the push. However, it all happens fast enough so that it would be relatively simultaneous... if I was DM, I'd have let you do it under the argument that even if they exploded in mid-push, the force of the push would deflect what little came your way.
Of Course, since, the Deathstrike is probably an immediate interrupt, it would superceed the push action... so that's a tough call | | | |

| What critters have deathstrike? I don't recall seeing it.
Who wins depends entirely on the wording of death strike. If death strike is a triggered immediate reaction then the Thunderwave would completely resolve before the deathstrike resolves. If death strike is a triggered immediate interrupt then the deathstrike would resolve before Thunderwave resolves.
If it's an interrupt: Damage -> Deathstrike (interrupt triggered by reaching 0 hit points) ->Push If it's a reaction: Damage + Push -> Death -> Deathstrike (reaction triggered by reaching 0 hit points)
I'd hazard a guess that a deathstrike ability would be a reaction rather than an interrupt and the DM was just unhappy that your gutsy plan was going to wipe his minions before they did anything. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a.
