| There are no stat-blocks for Drizzt and Elminster. Bruenor and Wulfgar shouldn't be alive anymore, anyway. After all, 4e takes the Forgotten Realms 100 years into the future. Elminster is described as an old man that is slightly insane.
Stats-blocks only exists for potential opponents. Jarlaxle is CR 21, while the highest is Shaz Tham (sp?) at CR 30, iirc. | | Champion of Regis | |

| Bruenor, Wulfgar, and Obould Many Arrows are all dead according to what I read in the first few pages (didn't actually say anything about Wulfgar but I am assuming if the other two are gone so is he). But it doesn't say how any of them died which leads me to believe one of Salvatore's novels might reveal this story soon? Just a thought.
I must admit that the setting seems quite interesting now with 100 years having passed and towns and cities now appearing as small points of light in a world full of darkness and danger. I think things are changing for the better and keeping the game world from getting stagnant (and this was not my opinion early on with this 4th edition change!). After playing a few sessions of 4th edition as a DM I must say gaming will be a lot less stressful and I can see the pace of combat actually picking up eventually (after the rules are better known).
In summary I am becoming more optimistic about the changes, and I was once a pessamist. I am warming to the whole 4th edition change.
Oh and one last note the DM screen is a thing of beauty! Not only the art but the hardcover material and laminate covering make it very sturdy. I even think you might be able to use markers that erase (dry or wet?) and be able to easily wipe it clean (although I hesitate to try this in case I am wrong!). | | Here is my have want list: http://www.maxminis.com/hw_list.asp?user=tirwin Successful Trades: Irav222 (x2), Darkfather, Kaya Kenobi, conanb1, dudeeehm, Uk, Master Elminster, tmertz, Shasack, Drewskie, et39100 (x2), Gaddszooks (x4), Romers, Weinbergphp, Vaasic, Navaire, lurch_E_bean, dobblegog, cjmax, jthm, Meds x2, hellfire2, w33zrfan, unmaker, sthig, Eldarion, drowdude, DM Lackey, griffat, eryador, tsech (not sure if this is his screen name?), Jordan, entropysoda, MikeWis, HalifaxDM, Targan, Drakul, wraith428, dmindock, mythoscreature, Tenlado,Chaotic Good, Asteroidjawa, Puggins, Bdog, slapdragon, Drakkengi,WarRabbit(2), Mnpatsfan, Greymouse, Snapdragon, Isondaho, Halofurry, Krush, Ekomega, Amator, Minatoman38, + many new trades recorded by maxminis, and never had a bad trade so please help keep the streak alive, thanks! | Just finished reading my copy.  Overall its useful for DM's wondering what's changed and people looking for fluff about the realms but players and new DM's can completely avoid it. Theres a few rituals and items, but nothing a player can actually use as they are used by the high level NPC's.  Even new player options like Spellscars just say to refer to the upcoming players guide instead. The book probably could of been more accuratly been called "A quick overview of the changes to the realms" as its not anywhere near a campaign guide. There's not enough material for a new realms DM to run much of anything besides the intro adventure in the beginning. Existing DM's who have other realms material will be better off as they can draw on the extensive supply of existing stuff.   Â
I liked the old realms and I think I will like the new realms just as much. Unfortunatly this book I don't like.  Not enough meat in it for anyone as far as I can tell. It really feels like you're paying 40$ or so just to see what's been randomly changed by WotC.  It's a really expensive patch rather than a useful sourcebook.

| | I would agree that it is more useful for DMs than players as most of the book is backstory for developing the new world order. As a DM it will be very helpful for storytelling but player will be much more apt to want the Players Guide coming out next month for FRs. | | Here is my have want list: http://www.maxminis.com/hw_list.asp?user=tirwin Successful Trades: Irav222 (x2), Darkfather, Kaya Kenobi, conanb1, dudeeehm, Uk, Master Elminster, tmertz, Shasack, Drewskie, et39100 (x2), Gaddszooks (x4), Romers, Weinbergphp, Vaasic, Navaire, lurch_E_bean, dobblegog, cjmax, jthm, Meds x2, hellfire2, w33zrfan, unmaker, sthig, Eldarion, drowdude, DM Lackey, griffat, eryador, tsech (not sure if this is his screen name?), Jordan, entropysoda, MikeWis, HalifaxDM, Targan, Drakul, wraith428, dmindock, mythoscreature, Tenlado,Chaotic Good, Asteroidjawa, Puggins, Bdog, slapdragon, Drakkengi,WarRabbit(2), Mnpatsfan, Greymouse, Snapdragon, Isondaho, Halofurry, Krush, Ekomega, Amator, Minatoman38, + many new trades recorded by maxminis, and never had a bad trade so please help keep the streak alive, thanks! I suppose that means if I ever get around to playing in the 'NEW' FR, all my characters will either follow Silvanus or Mask, and at least Clangeddon is still around.
Oh, wait, even Mask is gone, what evil god am I to follow now?!

| Just finished my second read through of the book and I'm liking it even less. Each region isn't detailed enough to do much of anything beyond use the basic plot hooks from that area. The plot hooks are just small blurbs that you could make up on your own in seconds.  The rest of the sections just isn't really good. The foes are ok I guess, but that's about it.
I just read about how they want to make most of the past events over the 100 years a mystery.  Maybe that's why the book is so vague. Still its maddening to not know what has happened to so many people and areas.  Even things that are clearly changed don't really give any details on how or what the changes are. Uugh! | | Looking for someone to cosponser a midwest DDM event. let me know if your interested!
