Looks like my group will be running through Shadowfell.

We played for about 3 1/2 - 4 hours on Saturday and most of that was taken up be two, count em, two, combat encounters. Doesn't sound much improved over 3.5 combat to me. Maybe we can chalk that up to not being very familiar with the pre-gen PCs. Maybe things will get faster once we have played the PCs for a few sessions.

WotC - making me wish more and more every day for a return to the TSR days. :(
I fought the snark and the snark won. I'm baaaaaaaaaaack!

Our group finished the first two combat encounters in under an hour total (including ample role-playing time). Two things helped. First, everyone spent time before we played going over their character sheets and the quick play rules fairly thoroughly. Second, our group are all MtG players (and judges) and the 4e combat turn flows a lot like a MtG turn (upkeep, pre-combat main phase, post-combat main phase, end of turn checks).

I was getting Magic flashbacks as I sat there with the hand, wondering where my sideboard was. I really hope the PH changes my mind because I'm becoming more and more disheartened the more I play WotC's RPG. I'm not sure I can even refer to it as D&D anymore.

I actually really like the flow of combat feeling similar to MtG. Turns were quick to resolve and proceeded in a logical fashion.

The only major complaint so far (and this is from a very anti-4e perspective) is that the quick rules don't include any information on standing from prone. This is a key issue since one of the fighter's primary abilities is knocking people prone. I'll need to see the PHB before finalizing my judgement but as an anti-4e grognard I've actually been pleased with what I've seen so far. Shocking

Shadowfall was a TPK for us.  It realy killed any desire of ours to play any more 4.0.

Pathetic Earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void - without the slightest inkling of who or what is out here. If you had known anything about the true nature of the universe - anything at all - you would have hidden from it in terror.

I plan on playing for a good six months before I decide whether I will play anymore. I figure that will give me a good grasp of the game.

For me the thing I want to see the most is how concentration of power effects play. For example 5 Eladrins working together, or a party with triple warlord, etc. There's some amazing effects that when EVERYONE can perform them, removes whole elements of danger from the game.

Can you elaborate?
Removing elements of danger doesn't sound much like there is an acceptable (for me anyway) risk vs reward ratio.

Well, you've seen the eladrin that can fey step every 5 minutes.  A party of first level ones can ignore any sort of physical challange like a scary bridge, ledge,  locked door, etc.     It's not bad if one eladrin can use it, but overlapping effects might raise an eyebrow.   Our group has already talked that there's probably entire worlds where Eledrin rogue hordes have stolen everything not nailed down by just warping all over the place. :D

They are fun to play though.

Abusing the rules, well... That's when I decide to make a room that is nothing but a bottomless pit. Ouch. Just like the illusionary wall that looks like a horde of goblins charging to the door and the wizard likes to cast fireball all the time. Burn wizard, burn! ;)

Just a simple traveler from the swamps of Dagobah otherwise known as Florida. Also known as Hurricane Alley!
I always try to send through delivery confirmation, and I expect the same. It's only 55 cents extra, so it's just a little more than a pay phone call, so just do it for the Kai. I prefer to trade with people in the US and Canada, sorry everyone else.

I like the idea of a solid time of immersion, and then reevaluating.
