Guessed wildly at four at them. Only definite one would be the large blue on rock.

I'd guess at least one wolf (likely for the Graycloak). Spider of Lolth, Swarm of Spiders, Dire Bat would be pretty cool thematics. If it's anything like the last Basic Game I'd expect to see the Troglodyte Barbarian tossed in.

The cover for the set has the Blue Dragon leaping through sand. Wonder if it will have a mid-Eastern/Egyptian feel to it???

There's an 'actual size' image of the Blue in the lower right corner of the box. Pretty safe bet [)]

As to what sort of baddies? Some sort of undead I think would be a staple inclusion...

It needs more than a LBD to attract me to purchasing the box set! Maybe if I could snag it on sale....

I bet that at least a few of the pieces will come from WD and WotDQ. Accordingly, I'm holding my guessing until at least after Winter Fantasy.

Swarms are complicated (shapeable, damage resistance/immunity, extra damage from area effects, auto damage, etc.) and, thus, won't be included in the Basic Game

I agree with that, while spiders/beetles/centipedes are staples of low level dungeons.

The latest Skeleton will probably make an appearance. I'm not so certain on the wolf, this is a D&D product, that will have "accidental" cross over to DDM (at least if it is like the original basic game...). Having a Minion as a low level character isn't likely.

As we had Orc and Kobolds last time, perhaps we will have Hobgoblins and Goblins this time around?

If like the last box some of the figures will show up in pairs. I could easily see another pair of orc warriors and a pair of the new skeletons in WD.

One thing to remember is that it looks like the party has leveled up--probably starting 3rd or 4th level. If this is the case, it would take a lot of skeletons and such to be suitable challenges for them. Probably should be looking more at CR 1-3 monsters.

"Having a Minion as a low level character isn't likely."

A ranger can have a wolf animal companion at a fairly low level. Druid, too.

I feel the same way about animal companions (complicated), which makes me wonder about a wolf.

It's been a long time since I played a druidess, but don't druids get Summon Animal Companion at 1st level? Or at least by 2nd or 3rd? Having a Wolf wouldn't be completely unthinkable, and if this is meant to be a self-contained starter, it's kinda necessary. You don't want new players reading the GCR card and saying "wolf? what wolf?"

Would whole heartedly agree, whatever minis we get are going to be able to be used with no frills or added 'extra' pieces needed or required. Defeats the purpose of trying to teach newbies the game if you're going 'oh that, just skip it you don't have the mini'.
