| | I was one of the beta testers for D&D online and have to say I wasn't very impressed with what they did with the game. It's very pretty but that can really only get a game so far. It's interesting how they do the skill sets though for individual classes. The storyline is pretty sparse though and after a few hours of play you can begin to feel as if you are just tediously killing things for items and xp. Compared to other online games that have more insentives to play (IE WOW has factions that are at war with each other that add to fun gameplay, guild wars has a strategy pvp area that is quite fun and free to play, even the two city of games let you explore the world using the power of flight etc to make it more fun). Just my opinion though many people like the game. If you like a ton of dungeons to crawl through with not much storyline and no really exciting pvp modes try it i guess. | | Completed trades: bonelock, noilo x2, greylord78, Altayr, Shadow Lord x3, qillan_dvra, symbiotesx2, devasque, smetzger, dulsin, Sir Bozak The Damned, Ironfist Boulderbender x3, tallcar24, Tactician x2, Okay McKay, skwave, dariustad,Eprosen,hung4treason,dog of the underworld,FeranEldritchKnight,Jerry_Damage01,vtloon | |

| Cool that they mentioned DDO and old style PnP D&D.
Unlike Azuretide I liked DDO, In fact it may be the most promising MMORPG out there to date, there are still alot of questions about it but on the last day of European BETA testing (last Thursday) we did a Raid (meaning a 12 person group instead of the normal 6 person max.) into one of the most challenging quests in the game. I have to say I had a blast! Most fun I've ever had in any MMO.
The greatest weakeness of the whole game is that Turbine and Codemasters don't have any shared servers so the only way for Auzzies and North American to play with Europeans is to buy a European version of the game, and the other way around if you live in Europe. That is true Suckage!
Keep in mind I hate PVP so that never appealed to me in WoW or EQ and is why I never even bothered with Guild Wars. | | "I was sittin' here eatin' my muffin, drinkin' my coffee, replayin' the incident in my head, when I had what alcoholics refer to as a moment of clarity." - Jules Winnfield Sales/Trades Bad (1): Ironfist Boulderbender Trades/Sales completed (8.): Danthl, Dafrca, Garyaxe, qillan_dvra, realmaster, Vandal_Savage, cavedweller, unearthed arcana. Agreed, and I've already seen it!
I don't see MMO's as a threat to the PnP version but something that will improve visibility of 'Classic' DnD. I've seen at least two people online state they were going to go out and buy the PHB. That's a start sure their buying the book to help improve the play Online but as they read through the book they may just see how great a concept it is and decide to try a little 'ol RPG'ing. | | I much prefer pen & paper D&D with all the great miniatures. For me, any computer game version of D&D that I have played was a substitute for the better, live version of pen & paper. | | "Look to God and live."
