| | You know, if you break it down set by set, I dont think that price for 9 sets is that bad. Obviously thats a lot of money to plunk down in one sitting, but if you were just starting out, and knew you wanted to collect a set of each, that'd be the way to go. But then again, I doubt many ppl have that kind of money saved up just waiting to spend it on a hobby like this. | | Champion of a Knight of Takhisis/Knight of Neraka | |

| | I just did a search and then looked at the highest priced item for D&D minis. Personally I don't think it's all the bad, but it's still a large chunk of change to drop down, unless you just hit the powerball..... | | Hello Boys, I'm Back Vindicated Champion of the Bat (not pretty, but it still counts) | |

Actually, it is used to illustrate an economics point that *everything* has a value to an individual consumer (ie person).
If a person is offered that value then there is *nothing* that person wouldn't give up for it, and I mean beyond simple monetary compensation (thus ambiguous cure for cancer, world peace, 1st round NHL draft pick...)
Yeah, the theory and it's application to minis is pretty distant (what is a Drizzt worth to you)... but it's hardly sophmoric (I didn't bring any reference to Indecent Proposal type things to this).
I don't imagine many people would give up their wives for a Drizzt, though I guess you could argue exactly what value an indivduals wife is to their life. I'm willing to bet that value is all over the board... Heh :-)

| Less than $3500 for all 9 sets bagged is actually quite reasonable. You'll pay almost that for two cases of Harbinger (and not be guaranteed a full set). With judicious ebay bidding you could pick up all 9 sets for somewhere between $500-$1500 less, however, it's getting MUCH more difficult to do so (Harbinger and Archfiends big-ticket items are pretty insanely expensive right now).
Would I exchange loved ones for a cure for cancer? No. World Peace? No. Would I trade certain personal freedoms for either? No. Would I exchange my soul for any of the above? No.
Certain things in life aren't commodifiable and therefore cannot have an exchange value placed on them. It takes a LOT of cynicism to commodify loved ones (and I'm pretty darn cynical but not quite that far) [:O] | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? But on the other side, who out there would withhold the cure for cancer just to make someone divorce his wife? You could save millions of peoples lives, but you want to destroy someone just to do it? (Not you personally, but you see where I'm getting at)
Everything has a value, it that you are probably right. However, just because something has a value doesn't mean that it is possible to find something of equivalent value. My family has infinite value to me. Even finding something else of infinite value (ala Cancer Cure) isn't equivalent, because of the way infinity works (mathematically speaking).

| | To be honest it never offends me what price sellers list their items for on ebay. I just laugh and move on. If he gets the price good for him. I understand that some may look like he is trying to take advantage of the uninformed, but it's his right to charge what he thinks he can get. Hopefully nobody will bid. | | Give me more MIND FLAYERS! | |

true enough...
It has been interesting see how people value things in such an extreme example.

| Questions of life and family and their relative value are probably best discussed in the Off-Topic forum. . .
Regarding outlandish Drizzt prices on Ebay, that's nothing. [|)] Just wait until Wizards does something like Mage Knight's super-duper-ooper chase-rare "Find the Four Horsemen" contest. One of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse per twelve thousand boosters. Those puppies were running for $2000-$2500 on Ebay for a good year or so.

I'm sorry but I don't get it. Why does everyone hate this guy for charging a lot for miniatures? If you don't like the price, don't buy it from him. If he manages to sell it, good for him. Nobody is forcing anyone to purchase his figures.
I feel the same. It's not like the price is completely out of line with what other online sellers as asking. Caveat emptor.
I agree too. Sure feedback or complain about slow delevery times or being ripped off by someone, but don't bother complaining about clearly marked prices. I wouldnt go into a cafe and complain thier coffee is seven times more expensive than next doors... laugh about with friends sure, but not complain about the shop. | | "Mutton yesterday, mutton today, and blimey, if it don't look like mutton again tomorrer." | I have had both a good experience and a bad experience with creep and although many of his listings are high, you can still find deals when you look. Being a newbie and siding with someone several of you have had issues with does not make me him. [:p] I will always look for who has what I want now and that will determine who I buy it from.
