Yea the Elemental Walls are definetely the bane of all booster buyers. That thing is plaguing me. But, I've gotten as many HGB's as Elemental Walls, so I guess its kharma or something and its evening out. As I've said before, I'm just going to repaint some of them into various elementals. At least then I'll feel like they have a use..

Heaviest boosters in my case (I can't be Cherry-picking my own case so shaddap [:p]) both contained the HGB. One of the Rares was the Sand Giant, and the other was the Hill Giant Chieftan.

Grabbed the last booster that was out at my FLGS (still not cherry-picking [:p]) seemed heavy enough to have a HGB and a normal sized Rare. Unfortunately it was just a Girrallon and a Warbound Impaler, which I really don't need four of at this point >_<

Being a larger than normal man, I feel it is my obligation to society to pick the biggest / heaviest of everything I can find. I eat the 24oz steak, I get the super big gulp (with diet sprite!) and, when I goto buy loose DDM boosters, I buy the heaviest one I can find. Im more capable than the average person of carrying such a heavy burden.

Im doing my part for society. Im HELPING by Cherry picking.

Less seriously, Bigger models sell for more. How else could you LOGICALLY explain the low value of Dromite Wilder and the extreme value of Balor. HEBI vs Beholder. Phoelarch vs Mounted Paladin. Come on.. Argue with this logic! You baby eaters!

Quick question am I a cherry picker if I am the only onw who buys them from my store.

I'll admit that I always look for the heaviest booster. But I buy from a local bookshop and know for a fact that I am the only person who ever buys the boosters (I bought elsewhere for two months and not a single one had been sold). This is really disheartening as when they run out of booster all I get are those god forsaken dromite wilders. Erhh.

Does anybody have a record of this? anywhere?

Not until the Search function is working again on the WotC boards.

The guy's name was QuickBrownFox who I am 100% certain was banned and returned as the somewhat less-adversarial and slighlty better-behaved Swift Fox (with the same avatar no less).

Persoanlly I have never found cherry picking better than chance so I don't bother. The theory that heavy=better is wrong anyway.

The heaviest boosters I opened contained Elemental Walls. Me and some friends weighed the Elemental Walls versus the HGB and the Elemental Wall was heavier according to everyone. I also only pulled one HGB in 14 boosters [:(]

I find it as amusing how quickly people say this thread should be killed, and every thread like it when I have yet to see one escalate to nastiness.
Sure, on the Wizard's board there must of been such a anger driven thread that it is now an epic tale, but give posters here some credit.

I don't buy into the heaviest == best. And I think distribution has now got enough false positives to throw people off. Like the Loyal Earth elemental :)

The art linked distribution is probably more cherry picking style than just picking the booster that weighs the most imo. I sure left lots of Merc sarge boxes for others once I got my couple.

From what I remember, QBF disappeared right after an incident in which he lashed out at Kithmaker for answering a "Guy" question he posted. Whether he was banned or just wanted to create a new persona, I don't know. I do agree that he is the same person that posted as Swift Fox (though the avatars were actually different). I had heard some folks speculating that he was TheSleek as well.

Cherry picking has something to do with weight, so if you like heavy minis, or light minis, go for it. If they turn out to be valuable, relative to other minis, feel good about your selectivity. In truth, cherry picking sort of implies that you'll be more likely to get a group of the same minis, and miss out on some really valuable 'other' minis.
Forget the moral issues, seems like a questionable strategy to me.

Well not so questionable in my opinion. I mean granted youa rent *always* going to get what you want, but if you can better your chances, why not? I love getting more HGB's. I also like 90% of the Large Rares. I dont mind getting more Girallons. Could I maybe get an Elemental Wall? Of course, and it has happened. But my chances are so much better of getting the ones I want, if I picked a heavy pack.

I actually like stores that put them behind a counter and just pull them out. I see both kinds, it doesnt really bother me either way. But again, I dont find it very "questionable"..it seems smart to me.

I don't think anyone is questioning whether it is "smart" in a self serving sense. Any idiot can gather an 'advantage' through selective cherry picking.

The reason that people oppose cherry picking is that it screws over 'the next guy'.

Example: A FLGS opens a case and puts all 12 boosters on the shelf. Customer A comes in and buys the 6 heaviest. When cusatomer B comes in, the 6 lightest boosters are the only boosters remaining. Customer B is always an inncoent child that saved up his pennies so that he could have a chance to get that one rare figure that eluded him ... the heaviest rare in the set ... so that he could hold it just once before his cancer takes him ...

Thus, accordingly, and in due fashion, babies are eaten.

glauron had said that it was a "questionable" strategy, and to put morals aside. So to me that meant he thought the process didnt really work. Was just saying that it does seem to work. Thats all. If I was wrong in inferring that, sorry. But I think thats what he meant.

I am 99.9% certain that the Elemental Wall is an internal WotC gag perpetrated on cherry pickers worldwide. Kinda like grey, vinyl Nerfium.

Yes I have 3 now. I also have a War Troll which makes me a happy camper.

I do not however have a Flameskull or a ZakRak. So starting tomorrow I'm switching my cherry picking strategy to the lightest boosters.
Thanx Glauron.

haha well..I mean I've thought of doing the reverse, and cherrypicking light boxes, but seriously for the most part you could go online and pick up the number of "light" figures you wanted for cheaper than a booster or two. I mean most medium sized rares are like $8 and lower..with a lot of them being like $6. And the Uncommons/Commons you should be able to get a lot of for real cheap. The money just doesnt add up that way, I dont think
