| I see that many of y'all have opted out of buying the new stuff and are trading the old. How's it working?
I am thinking about cutting back on my buying and focusing on trading my old for WOTDQ.
Finishing a set in a few weeks really isn't that fun; I like trading & haggling too much I guess. | | Originally posted by Schooly_D Username - he deals in minis Champion of Lhesh Haruuc Shaarat'kor

I was thinking about starting to trade my old stuff as well so would love the feedback on this...but if everyone does it then can't be that productive at the end. | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis

| With me I rarely have enough old trade bait to hope to complete a set.
After my two cases and trading to complete the set I usually only have a couple of extra rares left over. This adds up over sets but as most people prefer to trade current set for current set I don't have as much luck with old pieces as current ones.
right now I have 2 or 3 rares from the last 3 sets in my trade pile and I will offer them up in my WotDQ trades but I expect that my extra WotDQ stuff will go first and fast and the others will still be around longer.
with newer piecies people come to you, with the older pieces you generally have to hunt down your trades.
Of course this is my vast personal experience with all of 15 or so trades under my belt. [)]

| That is what I have been doing since I started playing DDM. I got into it just after Angelfire but I was able to buy a large amount of Harbinger-Angelfire minis from someone and "jump-started" my collection. There were quite a few gaps in the collection, most of which I have now filled by trades on these boards.
Everyone's situation will be different. I look at it this way, I buy enough new stuff to come close to completing the set but with enough left over to trade for the older stuff I still need. The only problem is I am getting very close to completing all of the sets and will have to wait for each new release to scratch the trading itch. Thankfully the new game, Dreamblade, will be out by then and I can start a new plastic-crack habbit...... | | **overlong signature deleted. Please see posting guidelines**

| I've got pretty good luck with out with the old, and in with the new. I have more old rares than new ones I'm looking for. Some stuff never moves (Ulmo) but I'm always hopeful. I've always got a few too many of the current tier 1 hopefulls, when I know they're never going to make it, I liquidate to do the same with the new set. Out of the trades I've got here, only 1!!! was ever suggested to me, that's okay, cuz I move quickly and make quite a few offers. A lot might be timing, I only make much effort during the first 3 weeks a set is fresh. After that, I get too many offers declined from people that don't "really" want the piece they've got on their want list to make it worthwhile. | With War Drums for once my priority was not to complete the set, I had minis from older sets that were much more attractive plus I knew some other Canadians would get their case/s late. I will actually get more UC/C's from WD than rares. | I second that... anyone want some orc maulers and elf rangers??? I think I have about 10 of each as of right now.
I'll be doing some trading, but not just yet, I have a few more boosters coming and then I'll be set to trade for missing pieces. Yup. The elves not as much (though I'll take 'em) but I definitely want the orcs. What are you looking for in return? Do you need a Dragonne perchance?
On topic, I have been considering liquidating some of my older stuff (Drizzt, extra LSD, etc.) to buy cases of the new or masses of C/UC figures for RPG use. | | Champion of the Gelatinous Cube. Nemesis of Gnomes and Dinosaurs.

| Well I guess I fall somewhere between doubtofbuddha and Username; I buy DDM for my campaign and War Drums is the first set that I decided not to buy any boosters. There were just too many figures I didn't want and didn't want to try and unload.
And so far by offering my older rares, UC and Commons I've gotten 80% of what I want in War Drums! I'm actually kind of amazed at my success so far. This will allow me to save more for WOTDQ, but if that set starts looking like WD I'll have to reconsider. ::crosses fingers::

| At my FLGS we have several people who got into minis after aberrations, who are trying to fill earlier sets. They've been prying some of my old minis from me over the past 3 or 4 sets, usually enough to buy at least one case from the latest release. Seeing as how I usually get 4 cases it helps. Unfortunately, I don't have enough old stuff to go round. I have to keep at least one of everything, and for choice pieces, one must have multiples [:)] It's tough parting with the early stuff when you're a hoarder.

| I started trying to trade older stuff for newer with Deathknell. It seemed to work OK then, but it seems harder and harder to do so, because people don't want to trade for the really old (and therefore higher prices/values) stuff. I'm pretty much down to just what I want to keep at the moment, though -- except some lingering large uncommons that are clogging up storage space. | | My H/W list is not current... | | I had planned on trading for a lot of my War Drums that I wanted, but found out its not so easy. The first few weeks, everyone is trying to finish off the new set. In this case, everyone wanted to trade War Drums for other War Drums. So I didnt get to trade for as much as I wanted to. I'm sure if I waited a month or so, a lot of that would die down and then ppl would want the old stuff again. | | Champion of a Knight of Takhisis/Knight of Neraka | |

| | All i want is old stuff. I buy enough cases, and with my friends getting 3-5 at the same time i usually complete the set the day i open cases. Then i have a ton of new rares to trade and since i didnt really get into things til angelfire the old sets are what i need. So far i have had great luck trading new stuff for old. With underdark and war drums i was able to trade almost everything away in 3-6 trades to get old stuff i needed. Still have a few things to get rid of but waiting for one last trade to come in before reposting my list. But if any of you want to trade for older stuff let me know and ill email you the list before i post it. | | Ha:19 of 80! De:43 of 60! Ar:24 of 60! GoL:60 of 72! Ab:59 of 60! Dk:58 of 60! | I buy two cases -- enough theoretically to get one of each rare. I then trade older stuff to get the multiples I'd really like. So far, it's worked for the last 3 or 4 sets.
It takes a little bit longer, as not everybody is interested in the older stuff, and I won't do single figure trades because of Canadian shipping costs.
Then again, I have 30 or 40 older rares (pre-DK) to trade, and very little of the newer stuff.

| I traded so much older stuff to complete Aberrations and Deathknell that the last few sets I've mostly bought enough to complete the sets and then mostly trade new for new. With AB and DK I thought there were so many lousy rares and so few good ones that I didn't want a draw full of untradeable junk so I mostly traded to finish the sets and bought very few boosters.
The last few sets have been great though and it was hard to resist the temptation to buy too much....actually it was too hard.
Hopefully the current trend continues otherwise I'll pretty much be out of the game. I've only got a few choice older pieces left that I will probably trade off during the next two sets if I fail to pull the really cool rares and I have no other option.
If we end up with another set where half the rares are untradeable humanoids (champion of Yondalla and company) and half the remaining monster rares are wierd junk (ie fiendish Giant Preying Mantis) then I don't see myself sticking around. | | Robert Rosehart Champion of the pixie

| | I trade only face-to-face or with people that I've met face-to-face. I prefer to bargain hunt for old minis. For example, I recently got a Champion of Elistraieeeeeeeeeee (sp?) for around $16. Most folks who want to trade will use average sales from Ebay or Zenako's as a price guide, and I feel that I can do better by selling my extras and bargain hunting. | | | |
