5 cases is limiting yourself? I wish I had your budget.

| I enjoyed the poster preview.
I still haven't decided case versus booster's.
There may not be many pieces I use as a DM but sooner or later I imagine I will find someone to skirmish with again. there will be some good skirmish pieces in there.

| The poster has only added to my satisfaction that I ordered 3 cases. Sure there are a few disappointments, but I like 95% of the set.

Well,
I love the leaks and everything, but I'm slightly disappointed with this set, I'm gonna limit myself on this set.
Yup, out of the 'normal rares' there are 3 I want plus 2 I'll keep if I pull but won't try to get.
The Uncommon Huges is where its at though. Probably get 1.5 cases.
There just aren't enough 'classic' OGL monsters.
Hi All,
I'm with you. Only 3 rares that I really want. There are 3 more I would keep if I pulled them, but only one of each. That is 6 rares that I find acceptable. I like 7 of the commons and about 10 of the uncommons. The rest are nothing I want. The huge uncommons are going to be interesting as I want 5 out of 6 of those and at least 2 of each. Only want one huge rare though (would've been 2 if the black didn't have that growth on its back). I would keep one Tiamat if I pulled her but the Dracolich is the only want I want to keep.
I have 5 cases pre-ordered. I haven't decided yet on how much I'm reducing it but I'm thinking of canceling my order completely. I'll get what I want off ebay singles merchants (if I can, it seems a lot of peeps are going this route). This set is the worst one to date in my eyes. I do not like the selection of minis at all. I don't like the mounted minis, they look great, but I don't want them. The only mounted minis I want are goblin worg riders and knight types on horseback, not nightmares, horses! There just aren't enough minis that I want in this set. Its sad really.
And for the record the 3 rares I want are: Large Green Dragon (my favorite dragon species) Magma Hurler Redspawn Firebelcher (suprised?)
the 3 I would keep one of are: Slaughterstone Eviscerator Golden Protector Cadaver Collector
That is only 26 minis that I want out of 60, 30 I would keep. I think singles would be best. I really wanted to open some boosters but it looks like I'm going to have to wait until Blood War. [:(] | | Completed Trades: 136

| I ordered 3 cases before the poster and I'll be sticking with that order happily. Overall I think it's a nice set at least appearance wise. We'll have to see how the skirmish stats play out for wanting duplicates of rares but so far I'm pretty impressed.

| | I'm actually probably going to up the number if cases from 3 to 4. I was a little wary at first, but man I love all the Huges, except the Blue Dragonspawn. Also regular Uncommons will be harder to get, and probably cost more. So I'm thinkin 4 might be the magic number. I'll get the 10 boosters that I was planning on, maybe more. I'll be curious to see what happens on the singles market.
I agree...I counted 10 that I really don't care for....overall an excellent set. A little too much mounted action, too many dragonspawn, and not enough diversity on the iconic monster front! | Neither the leaks nor the poster have affected my purchase decision. We had to commit to our pre-orders at our FLGS before the poster broke and I had only seen 19 greenbacks.
My order was 3 cases and just before the weekend, I upped it to 3.5 cases. That's also knowing that I'll probably play in 3 or 4 limited events, to bring that total purchase to 3.5 cases and 8 boosters. All in all, that's effectively 5 cases worth.
And all this despite my lack of excitement over the set in general. Sure, there are some minis that I really like alot, but overall, the set leaves me feeling meh. But I love the DDM line, I like the general direction of things, and I like enough of the minis to not call this set a failure. | | Champion of Neogi

| Some of the newly revealed minis are great. (The Tavern Brawler is a big help to those of us who want minis for non-combatants, and the piate is also great.) However, I'll be buying far fewer of this set than any previous one - probably less than 50%.
I think the problem here is that WotC tried to meet too many aims in a single set. The normal constraints in any set are: 1) the chosen theme, with some/many that must match it; 2) balancing the needs of new and existing customers; 3) balancing new creatures against core and commonly used ones; 4) spreading minis across the factions; 5) making the selection work in skirmish. For this set they also had 6) it's a rare case of a huge set, creating high expectations.
That's already a tough set of aims. But they also threw in:
6) this set will be the first to feature clear plastic; 7) this set will have a special focus on MMIV, i.e. completely unknown creatures; 8) as this is the year of the Dragon, the theme will be shouted about even more than usual!
All of these requirements narrow the choice of minis. Something had to give. Take the example of the Golden Protector. It could have been an ordinary Lammasu - but the need to have lots of dragon-related minis meant that it was the less used Golden Protector variant. Taken in isolation, that decision isn't a problem. But it isn't an isolated case. Blocking 5 slots with dragonspawn, and yet more slots with other completely new creatures really didn't help.
What 'gave' in particular was the balance of new and core creatures. It would have made more sense to have dropped the big focus on MMIV, and spread MMIV creatures (dragonspawn in particular) over several sets rather than cramming them all into one IMO. | | Champion of the Bodak.Knight of the Aboleth.Squire of Gnomes. Very good points. I especially agree with the last paragraph. They tried to throw a bone in several directions, leaving many things out. While this hyena is far superior in appearance to the other (and I like it a lot more), I would have rather had some animal we haven't had from MM1 already. | I rated all the pieces in the set (which I always do)..
Highes Aspect of Tiamat Dracolich Mountain Troll Large Green Dragon Ogre Skirmisher Diseased Dire Rat Cloudreaver
Lows Redspawn Firebelcher Wizened Elder Watcher - Was a high before the rare issue arose Whitespawn Hordeling
No, 0's or 1's in this set, which is a first.
Overall highest rated set so far to me, will rescore once they are in hand. I preordered 4 cases, this should hit all that I need, then fill up on the U/Cs from ebay.

I was under the impression that you get 2 Huge rares in a case and 4 Huge uncommons. Am I mistaken? As for the set, I'm sticking with my order of 2 cases... I may up it to 3. Yup; me.
Maybe I'm just not cynical enough but I just love minis. That fact that in a month's time I'll be cradling a new armload of plastic joy makes me incredibly happy, and the fact that so many of the minis are jsut fantastic makes it all teh better. There are some figures shown that make my jaw drop, and not in a bad way. In fact there is not a single mini on the poster that I look at an say "WTF," not even the much-maligned Griffon Cavalry.
So let me be a dissenting voice among the dissenters by saying that this minis fan is very happy with what he has seen. | | Champion of the Gelatinous Cube. Nemesis of Gnomes and Dinosaurs.

| Eh. The poster didn't do anything for or against this set. Some of the choices have me scratching my head, but I like most of the selections (yay Brawler and Pirate), even the already-much maligned Griffon Cavalry.
But, the poster certainly didn't break me out of the mindset of waiting to see the actual figures in hand before I buy any cases, that is for certain. In fact, up close and personal, the poster paint jobs look too nice, IMO. Won't get fooled again...

True dat.
I'm torn. I'd get a million cases if I could, but I can't. I'm trying to decide if it is worth it to get just one (and lots of singles) or two. Unlike past years, disposable income is rare ... I can't just order four or eight or whatever I'd like.
