| Since there aren't enough topics on WotDQ yet [:P] and Im bored. Lesse if we can determine the Master vs. Production minis, some on the poster are actually production (Spider) so it is possible that both are represented on here. Here we goooo
1 Aasimar Fighter - Master, the real one will have Dark Wash out the Wazoo
2 Aspect of Bahamut - Master, Has to be, way too much chromatic blend for a production version
3 Cleric of Syreth - Production, not enough detail to have much difference in the Master
4 Dragonborn Fighter - Production, it's one solid color with a purple loin cloth (course Khumat's proved us wrong before)
5 Golden Protector - Production, one solid color with no chromatic blending
6 Meepo - Master, something about him will be different in hand, always is on the smalls..
7 Slaughterstone Eviscerator - Master, too much stonework detail to be a Production
8 Tordek - Too ugly for me to worry about
9 War Weaver - Master, if it's not Ill be highly impressed
10 Bonded fire summoner - Master, gawd I want that to be the productions version sooo badly
11 Clawfoot rider - Master, too much detailing the Dinoride
12 Goliath Cleric of Kavaki - Master, the armor wont be as shiney in our hands
13 Griffon Cavalry - Master, already been said, no cloud, so this has to be master version
14 Small Copper D. - Production, looks like one solid color to me (and more Brass/Bronze for that matter)
15 Spellscale Sorcerer - Master, too much detail for a Prod
16 Strom Archer - Production, is clear plastic colored plastic or clearpaint plastic? thatll determine Master/Prod for all clear minis
17 Tavern Brawler - Production
18 Warden of the Wood - Master, too much detail for a prod
19 Azer Fighter - Production, common? 3 colors, light shading and/or blending, sounds like a production to me
20 Huge Fire Elemental - Procution, see clear plastic
21 Purple Worm - Master, too much stonework detail and mouth detail for a Prod
22 War Ape - Production
23 Wizened Elder Watcher - Master, there's moss painted on there, we wont see it on ours
24 Apect of Tiamat - Master, been told that this isnt the Prod version already
25 Blackguard on Nightmare - Production, seems to be the unanimous agreement here on MM
26 Bluespawn Godslayer - production, who cares, its big blue...
27 Cadaver Collector - Production, Master has blooooood
28 Diseased Dire Rat - Production, not much detail to master
29 Displacer Beast Pack Lord - Production, looks to be the same paintjob as the Nightwalker got
30 Doom Fist Monk - Master, too many colors for a common
31 Dracolich - Master, please please PLEASE prove me wrong
32 Dragonwrought Kobold - Master, small common with a lot of detail? never happens
33 Dread Warrior - Production
34 Eldritch Giant - Master, a lot of metal detail that will probably be only one shade of silver in hand
35 Greenspawn Razorfiend - Production, its all green
36 Hobgoblin Talon of Tiamat - Production
37 Kobold Zombie - Production, too small to tell though
38 Large Green Dragon - Master, we'll never see those kickass highlights
39 Wererat Rogue - Production, dont see much detail
40 Poison Dusk Lizardfolk - Master, lot of detail, hopefully Im wrong
41 Witchknife - dont know what it is...cant comment
42 Blackspawn Exterminator - Production, its nekkid and black, cant be that hard
43 Cleric of Laogzed - Master, for a common thats some good washwork
44 Cloudreaver - Yaar pirate
45 Demonic Gnoll Archer - Master, I pray I'm wrong
46 Huge Fiendish Spider - Production, we've been told its a Prod
47 Hunting Hyena - Master, the furs painted to realisticly, I think it's a master
48 Large Fang Dragon - Production, all one color with no striking features
49 Magma Hurler - Master, wouldn't it be kickass if it was actually all clear plastic, with the rocks painted opaque so that clear plastic shined through the cracks?
50 Mountain Troll - Production, Not that hard to paint Huges, shoudl be a Prod
51 Ogre Skirmisher - Prodcuction, there's what 4 colors and no detail
52 Redspawn Firebelcher - Production, dont care regardless
53 Small Black Dragon - Master, he looks like he has more detail that his Huge cousin
54 Small Fire Elemental - see clear plastic
55 Sorcerer on Black Dragon - Production, blackies all one color it seems
56 Stirge - Master, heckuva lot o detail for a tiny
57 Tundra Scout - Master, yeah nuff said
58 Twig Blight - Master, I expect blackwash problems
59 Whitespawn Hordeling - Production, looks like the White Wyrmling of this set
60 Yuan-ti Halfblood Sorcerer - Master, too beautiful to be a prod

| | Wow, thorough analysis. My hope is that the darkwash on this set isn't like it has been for War Drums. Underdark was ok, the set is dark-themed anyway, but I get tired of them overdoing it. For instance, the Inspired Lt. from War Drums shouldn't have had much of any dark wash, instead she looks like she rolled in a mudpit. She is regal, beautiful and terrifying...not muddy. | | | |

| | Good post. Very well laid out, and a good reminder that you don't want to get overly excited for some of those pieces, as the reality will be quite different. Too bad too because I was starting to drool over the poison dusk lizard and of course the summoner. | |

| A reminder:
WotC went through and reshot the figures that they observed to have the biggest differences from Master to Production to try and decrease the outcries of "this isn't at all what I thought it was going to look like!".
SO, based on that, I'm far elss concerned about what the Production pieces will look like vs the masters on the poster.

The greenback pic didnt have the flame at the top of the staff painted..It was gold like the staff.

You should see the highlights on the greenback picture..Its the biggest difference between greenback and oficial photo (other than stirge).

For kicks and giggles I went thru the set by memory and could only remember 1/2 of the figs that we re-shot. Then I compared the remainder to the poster and found a few more. Finally I pulled out the communication between mktg & art and realized I was wrong on four of the figs. What does this tell me?
One: the lighting at my desk is terrible.
Two: the masters are much closer to the production figs than on WD.
Three: the angle and lighting of the photos really can make a difference. | |
