| So, let me continue the story in more detail and fill in a few holes, so you slowly get the results of the contest.
Imagine that...
You were scrounging through a warehouse full of tools and boxes of items lost through the UPS / Fed Ex, etc carriers and then this warehouse bought those items for CHEAP and then sold them for CHEAP + $1. And that you saw 14 cases of Harbinger D&D minis in the corner.
Because I just did. A well-known national package company had 14 cases of Harbinger in their warehouse that they couldn't deliver years ago.
It has been sitting in this outlet's warehouse for the last several years until I, looking for some power tools (I regularly buy from this place for CHEAP $$$), saw them sitting in a corner.
Needless to say, I was EXCITED.
I asked them what they wanted for it... and John, the supervisor for the day who was helping me by telling me how much the tools I were looking at would cost me, tells me that I can have them for $20 a box... before he could finish what he was saying, I said "I'll take them!" and then he finishes "and if you take them all, I can give you 25% off the total." and I immediately said YES again when they quoted the price to me for all 14.
So, I forget about all the tools (Brand New Craftsman Table Saws for $5-10, etc) and start carrying the cases towards the counter. As we're checking out, he says well, I can't give you 25%, but I can give you 20% off instead.
To which I, the excited haggler timidly ask... "how about we split the difference?"
So he rings me up for 14 boxes at $20 each (a pretty flat number)($280) and then applies the discount for buying them all so that I end up paying $217 for all 14 cases.
$217 divided by 14 cases = $15.50 per case.
$15.50 per case divided by 15 boosters =
$0.96875 per booster... or rounded to $0.97 cents.
So... Lantis, you were CLOSE... only off by 1 penny with your guess of $0.98 cents.
But, I am feeling generous so... instead of just sending one deathknell booster to Lantis, I am going to send one to Lantis, and to Anothermullen (first guesser of $0.99 cents) and to WakeXX (first guesser of $0.95 cents).
So, if you gents or ladies would kindly email me your address, I'll get those out to you this upcoming week (mailing after Wednesday).
Thanks to all who played and were good sports... I had a lot of fun.
I don't know what I am going to do with the cases yet, but maybe I'll start a thread for suggestions.
One option I am thinking about is doing a big draft (where I keep the minis, but people can open and play with them for free)...
Or selling the cases... or something. I don't know. We'll talk more.
Congrats again to all and thanks for playing! Pretty damn close!
Semper Fidelis,
Kent
EDITED TO ADD: If Lantis or Anothermullen or WakeXX feel insulted in any way by the secondary prize, please let me know and I'll be sure to not send it. [:p] | | Fun little game...

| excellent story, makes me want to do some research [:D]
You should sell them, at least some, hell, one will most likely triple your spending.
I thought there were 16 booster per case. In any case, seling single minis (1500+) could also earn you a hell of a lot of money and that way you can keep what you want [)]

| There were only 15 boosters in each case? Oh, nevermind. You did the math for 16. Well, we were all wrong. Bummer. And to think I was .09 cents off.
What is this crazy outlet called by the way?

| Ah rats, I was really hoping to see someone nail that price and win a whole case! So close!
Heck, for some odd reason I'm even feeling lucky for only being 4 cents short. I wasn't thinking about rounding the number off (not that it mattered).
Ok, now all I can hope for is that one of you 3 guys gets a Beholder in that booster [:p]
I'm not sure what you should do with those cases. It depends on if you want to be generous or if you want to make top dollar. Either way, I think you should open them and sell them individually (boosters or minis). The top dollar method would be to sell them...well...for top dollar. You can make a ton of cash. The generous method would be to spread them around the community by selling each booster or mini for half of what it's worth. You'd still make a ton of cash.
But whatever you do, be prepared to deal with even more A-holes giving you a hard time while they try to get your minis than you were when you simply posted a contest. heh heh, I have asked this question yesterday already, people should understand (something I did not) that Talistran makes money from that venture so perhaps he is not willing to share the info for that simple reason and I can respect that...it is nothing hard to find if you know how to look [)]

| First of all, congratulations to the winners!
What I would do with the cases is this:
1) Immediately open one of them. If pleased with the rares, I'd stop there and perhaps put one more away to open in a couple of years. If not pleased, I'd open another one. 2) Immediately sell 1 of them on eBay to finance purchasing for the next 2 sets (6 WDQ cases and 4 BW cases). 3) Put 3 more away to be sold at later dates (and to finance further DDM purchases). 4) Organize an exclusive vintage limited tournament (entry fee $30-$50) for up to 20 players (that's 40 boosters, or 8 boosters short of 3 cases; the winner would get 4 of the remaining boosters as a reward, 2nd place 2 boosters, and 3rd and 4th place 1 booster each). 5) Break up 2 cases (32 boosters) and sell boosters to Maxminis members at their retail price, with a limit of 3 boosters per member. 6) Put the last 3 cases into a bank vault. | | Hypethetical Blood War Set List | Champion of the Gelugon | Vindicated Prophet of Blood War Ha 69/80 | De 60/60 | Ar 57/60 | GoL 72/72 | Ab 60/60 | DK 60/60 | AF 60/60 | UD 59/60 | WD 57/60 | WDQ 3/60| BW Total DDM Count: 1037 | No chance of finishing the set | Will finish the set | Set

What a find! I'd probably intend to sell the cases on ebay for a ridiculous amount of money (I could pay off my student loans...almost), but I know that if I actually had the cases at hand, they'd be opened and the minis spilling all over the place as I pondered my own inanity [:D]

| I make a significant living off of visiting this warehouse and reselling items from it. Unfortunately, I cannot share that secret or I have a huge potential loss of income.
I hope you understand. They have no more DDM stuff at this particular warehouse outlet though.
But, for those around the country... Airports, Carriers (UPS / Fed Ex, etc) have millions of "lost" packages every year. Shipping Address Stickers fall off during sorting and suddenly they can't deliver them. Someone puts the wrong address on the package to be delivered and thus the address is wrong. Or a hundred other stories on why those packages never show up. They have outlets throughout the US for people to buy them at auction. That is all this particular warehouse is. They buy packages from these places (airports do the same thing with unclaimed luggage) and then resell them.
That is all this is.
So, if you feel passionate about it, go find one or two and start looking. I earn far more scrounging these places than I do at my regular job, but you can't leave a family business ;)
Anyways, keep the ideas coming. I have some great offers so far from official and unofficial channels, some of which I am taking quite seriously.
We'll see what happens.
Thanks again and get me your addresses folks!
Kent / Talistran
Thanks again
Good luck,
Kent

| I't entirely up to you what you do with them Talisran but I still think what would be cool is to do a vintage tournament at a major gaming convention. Charging a modest fee and I'm sure you'd get some takers. Maybe GenCon SoCal or something would let you do one. Just a thought.

| As for what to do with the 14 cases:
Have a new contest.
Open all 14 cases and catalog all the miniatures. Keeping in mind Harbinger's completely random distributions, each contestant has to guess the exact number of each rare gleaned from the total cases. Anyone able to do that gets 1 rare of their choice.
Then you sell the rest individually and move to the bahamas! | | Champion of Devas Ref list: http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5179(42+ completed trades/sales)
