| Who is as lame as I am and likes to cherry-pick boosters from their own cases before opening all of the boosters?
I like to test my accuracy by opening a case, picking up each booster, weighing it in my hand, squeezing the sides, and then setting them in 3 stacks. One for the light boosters, one for the ones that feel "in-between", and then ones that feel the heaviest/thickest. Then I tear into all of them.
I really don't get anything out of this other than knowing how much more of a geek my gf would think I am if she knew. With WD, I was right about pulling a Hill Giant about half of the time. With Underdark, I was wrong 100% of the time when I thought I pulled a Balor...because I didn't pull a single Balor!

| I cherry picked in a store once... and it still makes me feel dirty.
However, I do study the new boosters I am opening to identify things that might make them easier to cherry pick. For instance, I can already tell you the exact weight of the Aspect of Tiamat and Bluespawn Godslayer... but I won't because I don't share the information that helps people cherry pick. Instead, I pass along methdos people can use to stop cherry picking... | | Champion of Meepo _*_ Myztek on the Wizards Boards. _*_ (2206 DDM on 03/06/06) Please note: The use of the indicates an attempt at humor ... often a bad attempt. | | I don't cherry pick. Closest I've come is separating boxes from my cases by box art and then opening them from my favorite to least favorite boxes. Recently, however, I've been doing that for each layer of boxes in a case. Wow. That is about half a step from fraud and might very well fit into the definition of "bait and switch". Even if it isn't quite illegal, it is rude and underhanded and I am dumbfounded why the store owner/clerk would let you do that. If I witnessed that, I would never buy from that store again.

I don't buy boosters in the stores anymore becuase of cheery picked over boxes. We learned our lesson with dragoneye & harbinger.

| When I open my cases I just go left-to-right across the top...then the next row and so on.
I dont see a need to shake and weigh in my hand to guess whats inside...I already own the box so theres no putting it back to find a heavier/not as much sliding around/lighter one at this point.
Besides opening cases takes me forever as it is with looking over every mini to make sure they arent broke, putting the cards in order, opening all the littl eplastic bags, marking up my Have/Want list ect. | | Champion of the Skulk Vindicated Champion of the Twig Blight | |

| Cherry hunting in stores, no good, in home with your own boosters go ahead! ΖD]
I got lucky today, our store got WotDQ cases (3) yesterday, clerk opened one, got Eldritch giant, i bought one case (still unopened) and 3 single boosters 8 boosters for our fun sealed game tomorrow and 1 for me! there was 3 boosters on the self and 1 whole case in the backroom, clerk opened the case and handed me 2 boosters from the case and 1 from the self, i opened my booster (the one from the self) and... Bahamut and LGD! [:D] So we could have 4 huge rares (2 for certain) in our 8 boosters witch are calling to me right now, i just hope that i can keep my hands off them until our game starts... | If you feel you (and the store) did nothing wrong, I would love for you to let us all know the name of the store, the location of the store, and the person behind the counter at the time you made this switch.
As for whather your actions constitute fraud: that depends upon the definition. There are legal definitions, and then there are the definitions used by the people in line behind you that decide to kick your %#$@. When it comes down to $20 products, the second definition tends to be more relevant.

I went in to buy some and asked the counter persone to check and make sure all the pieces were there. well, the rare sucked so i didnt buy it. i used all tools and information at my disposal to make a perchasing decision. | I've only gotten 1 case, and yes, I cherry picked it.
Rant/ I am a cherry picker. A skirmish cherry picker. After my sixth HGB I started to grab the lightest boosters in the hopes that I'd get Flameskulls and Sacred Watchers. It worked for the Skulls, still no watchers.
Is it still Cherry Picking if I am not going for the heaviest boxes? I've got a Balor, 2 AoK, and 2 Iron Golems (only 1 gained through picking). Not a single freakin HH though. I ONLY go light on Underdark as a result.
I give alot of C/UC minis away, I have like 10 "good" minis out on loan right now. Despite the fact that I spend (way too much) time on a trade site, I rarely trade.
To be perfectly honest, my FLGS gave me a heads up on the rares pulled from the 1 case they got today. I still bought 2 boosters though, I am an addict. Were they "cheating"? No, they were providing me with info to keep my buisness. I "could" always go buy a case online, for a steep discount. I don't, because I like them and supporting small buisness is a good thing.
The owner's wife once even put boosters on a postal scale! Because I stood there for a good 5 minutes trying to figure out which one had the best "Rare Mojo". I bought the one in the middle of the 3.2oz. to 3.9oz weight scale because of what I was wanting at the time. I thought that was really funny, and actually laid off the metaphysical, psychic probing of booster content for a while.
My Mojo was not so good today. Why? I am a great Cherry Picker. Because WotC is on to me. Elemental Walls weigh more than Dragons. Flame skulls counteract HGB's. And more importantly Rares can be small. So With U/C larges and skirmish pieces in all 3 rarity slots it is a crap shoot even when I cherry pick.
This baby eating nonsense was valid in the days of Harbinger to Deathknell. It is just not as valid now. Funny thing is the most vocal Anti-Pickers buy cases online. I am supporting the hobby at the grass roots level! And I teach the Youngins' too, at least the cool, polite ones. Because $14.00 is alot of money when your ten.
I doubt it is the ten year olds that people worry about, however. It is themselves and how much the possible Rare will go up in value. Uhh dude if it is an investment, go see an investment banker/financial planner. These are TOYS.
End Rant/
Yes I am that lame.
Also, while swapping boosters is kinda shady. He did buy his cases from the locals, at the locals markup. Karma will bite him in the butt if needed. And the Huge rares in WotDQ are less useful than the Huge uncommons RPG wise. So lets scold him and be done with it. The Aspects are overpowered Skirmish wise and I don't think that they will prove to be good for the Epic Format. So this is a moot point. | | Two trades completed!!
