| At last we have developed and released a version of Bifur that doesn't need the user to own a copy of MS Access 2003. [:p]
The new version comes in two formats - one for those who own MS Access 2002/3, and one for those who don't. The latter version includes a runtime version of MS Access 2003 and is thus much larger than the first one (8MB v 40MB). The runtime version requires an install step - unzip the file into a folder and run the resulting "SETUP" file.
The new version has a lot of collection functionality added: quote:
* Ability to track wants and haves in the Collection Management screen Import facility from Maxminis includes the collection fields (Want and Have). * Import facility for the consolidated costs from Gamesters.ca * Reports for collections - 1) List of Haves/Wants, 2) Consolidated Collection report - includes total value of your collection based on Gamesters, 3) Haves list with all stats and 4) Wants list with all stats.
As usual - let us know what you think. Once we have settled this version we'll start on more suggested functionality.
Thanks to Carta Magica for the sponsorship which allowed us to procure the packing tools.
Special thanks to Luc for his reporting and collection ideas. | | One of these days WoTC will update their tournament page when I'm in the top 5... they never seem to do when I'm in that bracket :( My Collection My DDM Website And My Trade Refs Be a part of the UK DDM Forum

| Maybe it's just me and my computer, but:
I have MS Access 2002 and I cannot open the small one (for those who own MS Access 2002/3). I am told:
The database is an unrecognized format.
The database may have been used with a later version of Microsoft Access than the one you are using.
I bring this up because I still have Bifur v2.10.2 and it works fine. Did you do something different for the v3.10.0?

That should work - that's how it is here on my machine. Have you unzipped it? | | One of these days WoTC will update their tournament page when I'm in the top 5... they never seem to do when I'm in that bracket :( My Collection My DDM Website And My Trade Refs Be a part of the UK DDM Forum

| | Yeah, I unzipped it. I'm not sure if this means anything, but the file has ".mde" listed as its extension instead of ".mdb". I get the same results whether I use open it as a ".mde" or if I change it to ".mdb". | | | |

| I attempted to use the freestanding version. It downloaded and installed just fine.
When I launch it, it opens (after several warnings about "unsafe references") and hangs. Eventually I get the message "Your Bifur Warband Editor, Advanced database or project contains a missing or broken reference to the file 'COMCTL32.OCX' version 1.3. * To ensure that your database or project works properly, you must fix this reference."
Then I have to kill the Bifur process. | | Jeff "Wayne Laredo" Wilder | Email | Have/Want List | Trade Policies | Are You an Ethical Trader?

I hope the other one you are referring to is not the KB Warband Generator. KB is certainly nothing to turn your nose up at...in fact some of the features of bifur, like importing have/want list and pricing, were available on the KB generator first [:)]
Anyway, this is big news for the ddm community. Finally something that is free for everyone to use. I guess Bmutha will have to continue to develop innovative features to stay ahead of the game (and then maybe bifur will continue to improve [)])

He he - you guys also rock. Maybe, just maybe, we should combine efforts? Seems a shame that we duplicate so much between us.
Thanks for all the kind feedback from the community - as usual - you're always welcome. Also note that, although I'm the official face of the tool now, I'm far from alone, with Korvax, Greyhaze, Stone Crusher and Zippy heavily involved! That's why we can release the data so early - a lot of us work on it.
EDIT: Mustn't forget Sammael for his import code and ManoVega for his cool Bifur Image - see my Avatar! | | One of these days WoTC will update their tournament page when I'm in the top 5... they never seem to do when I'm in that bracket :( My Collection My DDM Website And My Trade Refs Be a part of the UK DDM Forum

however, im in the same boat as opus. also the import TSV collection doesn't seem to work. It just sits there and looks at me.
Also on version 3.10.1? I had an issue with .TSV files from Hordelings (which are subtly different from Maxminis .TSV files - basically each end of line has a Linefeed only from Hordelings and Maxminis has a Carriage Return AND Linefeed - there's also a minor data error from Hordelings on one of the Figure Numbers which is set to R1 rather than a '0'). Testing on 3.10.1 seemed to work fine with both imports though after the code had been changed. | | One of these days WoTC will update their tournament page when I'm in the top 5... they never seem to do when I'm in that bracket :( My Collection My DDM Website And My Trade Refs Be a part of the UK DDM Forum

| Downloaded it again today from your website.
I tried the smaller Access version (3.10.1) and the standalone version - BOTH yeild the error message during startup, but seem to run fine once you click okay after the error message.
Other than that, I noticed a couple of errors in the new DB additions:
The Huge Purple Worm is 200 HP, not 220 as listed in the Program (this caused me a bit of embarassment at the prerelease tournament)
As well, several of the Organised play repain promos are missing from the list - I have a few that I own, but can't enter in. The missing ones should be easy enough to identify as they're numbered in series.
Other than these minor problems, I'm LOVING the Generator. It's made warband development SOOOOOOOO much easier.
Please post and let us know when the glitches are fixed | | "...for me to POOP on!!" -Triumph

Make sure you have the correct release of Bifur selected on the import screen. A common mistake - but the error message seems strange. Oh, and I tried the non-standalone version with Access 2003 (on a different machine, but also XP Pro SP 2) and got exactly the same error messages. The app did load, though, and mostly works.

I too, am having difficulties with import. I was able to import the 2.10 data with little difficulty. However, I can't import maxminis tsv. Nothing happens. I've left it to see if it needs more time, but after 20 minutes I gave up. No error message, no activity, it seems to ignore any attempt to import the tsv file. I've also renamed it to .tsv, .txt, .htm and had no luck with any of them.

| I don't have a need for the freestanding version myself, but I thank and applaud the working group that broughtthis to fruition. While I have access on my home machine, it is getting dated (Access 2000), and I know that it won't work forever. I'm unlikely to buy my self a new version, so I'm very happy to see this development work move forward!
Thanks all!
