I've only been visiting this site for about a year. I was wondering how this site came about. When was it created; right when Harbinger came out? Who all here have been members of this site since the beginning of Maxminis?

If you check the Members link (top right of screen), you can order members by date joined.

I started on the 6th of September, 2003, and I've been the primary moderator since then. The site really started to gain members on the 26th September 2003. Guess when DDM was released? [)]

(Jai's modified his join date, btw).

At the start, much of the focus also seemed to be on the trading aspect of things. I am a migrant from the Wizards board because a lot more trading happens here.

Yep. Early discussion about DDM was on the Wizards boards, and Rob and Mike really posted a lot there during the early days. (I miss them!)

However, there wasn't a specific place for trading DDM on the Wizards boards in those days, so maxminis gained a lot of members as the only place to trade. Then people actually started talking to each other. [)]

Wow - I thought that I came along a bit after Maxminis had become established. Makes me feel a bit embarassed at the small post count :)

I never thought to sort the dates. I didn't realize I joined so near the foundation of the site(just 6 weeks into Harbinger). It has been good to see the evolution of the site. I hope it continues to be the great tool and community it has been.

I did the sort and was surprised to find that my 11/04/03 join date barely got me on to page 6. I didn't realize we had so many members then. I also don't remember what took me a month and a half to sign up and get trading.

If you look at the post counts of many of the old members, a lot them came and went without doing much. (also everyone as a member prior to a certain date got a 50 post bump at one point due to some adminstration issues that were being handled, so you need to also substract 50 from some of those guys and you might find very few posts were actually made....)

Built the addition for this addiction, now on to the "gaming table" project....

I was happy to jump in when this site was announced over on the WotC Boards.

Initially the Webmaster created a VERY simple site. 4 forums as I recall. Trading got going pretty quick, but it wasn't until they announced the first Championship season that conversations beyond trading really got going.

I remember those days: when Kiddoc refused to tell us what he qualified with, when "Team Malice" dominated warband construction conversation, etc.

Back then of Course, ChaoticGood was viewed as a good moderator, and terrific trade partner.

After the initial development work of the Webmaster, Wuzzard took over developing many of the tools we have today. When things began to decay again, Jai stepped up to the plate and and helped the further development of the site to where it stands today.

All the while, additional moderators were added as traffic increased, such that the atmosphere of the site has, if anything, improved with time.

While history and post count are both important neither fully measures ones contributions although post count normally comes closer. At least it does until you get people deliberately padding it by posting a comment one word at a time.

I definitely haven't been here long (about page 124/143 by join date) but at least I break into the top 20 pages by posts. Before I signed in here I was an occasional lurker who reserved most of my posts to Wizard's board or Merric's Article/Warbands pages.

In the earliest incarnation of the board, Webmaster started up a discussion topic for each individual miniature. It's interesting to see how discussion doesn't proceed in that way - far more often, it's the combinations of miniatures that spark discussion.

Exceptions like the Drider Sorcerer exist, of course!

just click the heading "member since" on the members page
it should arrange by date. you may have to click it again
to reverse it.

Page 14 for me. There I am, sandwiched between Count Dooku and Dariustad...

Yeah, anybody with exactly 50 posts is likely a beneficiary of the Great Christmas Post Count Bump of '04. Ah, memories, when everybody's title had a Christmas theme, and everybody was scrambling to claim reindeer names...

Hmmph. Page 27. But that's a bit misleading. I was Can of the Cave Beer, then A Can of the Cave Beer (after I lost the password) and now I'm back to Can of the Cave Beer.

It's amazing some of the names I haven't seen in a long time--Ultarant being one of them. Toxic_Rat, greyhaze and derry are nearby, though. So I'm not totally by my lonesome.

Bottom of Page 10 for me, right at the end of December '03. I'm pretty sure I lurked for a good two months beforehand, but December after Christmas was when I had my first minis to trade.

My very first minis, though, were a Mind Flayer, some Kuo-Toa, and some Half-Orc Fighters bought as singles from the local store. I think they ran me all of about 10 bucks.

It's not diabsled, it's just not working. This isn't the thread to dicuss it further, though, cos it'll just veer way off topic.

It wasn't actually removed - it stopped working when we moved to the interim server. The custom avatar feature was a hack by Jai, and specific to the old site.

We'll restore custom avatars once we have the even newer site running. [:)]
