| Hi all,
I was looking for the (recurring each release) thread, where everybody brags about his case-pulls. I couldn't find one, so I guess I'm the first. I was extremely lucky with my pulls from 2 cases, because:
I only miss 2! Out of 24 rares, I got 22! Only missed the Immolith (trade initiated) and the Ettin (got 4 coming from eBay). So, I've got the set completed even before official release :).
Very much impressed by almost all minis, a pleasant surprise was for me the quality of the Balhannoth sculpt and paintjob. Actually, I only really dislike 4 minis now I have them in hand, skirmishwise not much, but for RPG not usefull either:  Terrible rares are the Griffon and the Spectral Magelord. The Griffon is completely out of scale with anything we seen sofar. I liked the concept of the Magelord, but the execution is terrible!!! You can't reaaly distinguish what it's supposed to be, and it looks cheap with a lot of seams. The Shadowhunter Bat is another dud, paintjob and sculpt quality reminded me of the Dragoneye small white dragon debacle. Fourth on my "terrible mini"-list is the Grick, just hate the new concept art.
Overall, it is a great set of minis, with some awesome figures.

| Congrats, Dordledum!
Could you post a nice photo of the Silver Dragon, please? I second your opinion on the Griffon. It looks like it doesn't even need a large base at all. | | Champion of Regis

| Sadly I am not picking up a case this time. Finances force me to be a bit more choosy about my minis so I'm buying a few of the singles I want and (hopefully) trading for the others.
So far I've bought a Vrock, Young Red Dragon and a few of the uncommons and commons I wanted. I'm still wanting the Eye of Flame, Skeletal Tomb Guardian, and Young Silver Dragon, which I'll probably buy. The rest I'll do my best to trade for.
I'm certainly interested in reading about folks' case pulls though. It is always fun to hear about them.

I have a trog. It's the same height as the others, but about twice as thick. I'll be using it as a trog barbarian or a different species of trog. | | Originally posted by Schooly_D Username - he deals in minis Champion of Lhesh Haruuc Shaarat'kor

| Visible seams are not very good, but in all actuality the thing that has been bugging me the most in the minis I've seen from this set in-hand is the paint...or lack therof. I mean, how hard would it have been to paint all of the Goblin Picador's spears (i.e. the ones he's carrying on his back) a silver color? And why is the Gnoll's shield solid silver color including the two wood boards nailed to it?
Ahhh, no real issues with paint so far I guess...I know that there have been stinkers in past sets as well. And I'll also admit that some of the new minis have impressed me once I saw them in-hand. It won't be Blood War by a long shot but it will be an OK set for me I guess.

| Well, I bought two cases of Dread and had a pick me up after this last week. I opened two cases, pulled all 24 rares(I had put everything back into the boosters and had to go back through to verify), 3 of almost every uncommon(2 of the Human Fighter, 4 of the Spectral Panther the only variances) and 8 of each common. In my couple of years collecting I've never seen such a fortuitous pull on the rares(especially since I had 5 cases to choose from). All in all I'm quite happy as I do not have to really buy any additional boosters unless I want extra trade stuff, and if I want any extras of any of the rares I can probably trade for them.
All in all I'm quite happy with the set and the models in it. Most are useable in some way, I'm happy with the paint as long as I dont have to paint them, and getting the new rules for 2.0 in a handy dandy rulebook with a couple new maps was just a bonus. (I'm melting Pinocchio the Green Dragon down into a green slime though, damn ugly dragon.)

Are there any epics or is epic play going away? Large green: goofy, but not as bad as I expected. painjob pretty good, sculpt ok if you cut of the nose-spike.
Oni: much bigger than the yet realeased Ogre. Doesn't bother me actually, because Ogre Mages have allways been a different species than Ogres. Is much bigger than the old Ogre Mage as well, but looks a lot better. You can use them next to each other as different types still without looking ridiculous though.
Minotaur: About the same size as the GoL one but not disproportioned. First decent minotaur yet (except the Brass Golem maybe), highlight of the set!
Bugbear: similar size to the Footpad, Bloodghost and Gangleader. A bit larger than the Champion of Erythnul; twice the size of the Dragoneye Bugbear (but who cares), sculpt and paintwise it looks like a rare!
Troglodyte: cannot be compared to the trogs we have yet. Totally different, a bit bigger and more like a living piece of clay.
No Epics, I defer to the text on the wizards site on the Guardian Mummy redux:
Epic Your guess is as good as mine.

Oni scales well with other ogres, and actually looks much better in person than in pictures. The minotaur seems reasonable too. Haven't really seen the others yet. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades.

Hate the griffon. Really should of thrown it back and let it grow.
I thought shadow hunter bat to be good for an uncommon, and I'll probably use as a demon type. Silver Dragon looked awesome and made me wish I pulled one.

| OK, I got
- x12 DoD2 boosters at XP - x10 DoD2 booster at the Prerelease
so I needed one good case to complete the set.Â
I IMO pulled a great case as I got just about every Rare I was missing:
Champ of Baphomet Vampire Vizier Death Knight Spectral Magelord Fen Hydra Vrock Young Red Dragon Griffon *Lamia (my 3rd) *Angel of Valor (my 2nd) *Runecarved Eidolon (my 3rd) *Emerald Orb Wizard (my 2nd)

I guess I shall pick these up as singles.Â

| I got 4 bosters at Xp 2 at the prerelease and another 5 for winning and a case and a half I got today.
My case was awesome dispite pulliing 6 duplicates
total rares; Young Sliver Dragon Young Red Dragon Oni Eye of Flame x4 (already promised one and keeping the other 3) Immolith x2 Vrock Ascendant Hellsword x2 (making up for the eyes of flame) Rakshasa Baron x2 Champion of Baphoment x2 Balhannoth x2 (further binging the eye of flame karma back in line ) Mind flayer Scourge Lamia x2 Griffon x2 Wyvren x3 (karma swings back in my favor) Skeletal Tomb Guardain x2(ok I like this set overall but why the heck is this a rare, paying for wyvren karma) Bralani x2
Missing Angel of valor, Death knight, Vampire Viziier, Ettin jack of Irons, Emerald orb wizard, spectral magelord, runecarved Eidolon and Fen Hydra. or all those I think only the ettin and Hydra will take any effort to get through trades or secondary market.

| | Well, I tested a theory out this past Tuesday and have found out this - If you want the Red or Silver dragon just shake the packs. Due to size and wingspan they tend to limit the amount of movement in the pack, as well as sound. Choosing two packs out of 24 I pulled both dragons giving me extras of both. I think this is about the only way to take a chance with this set as you cannot exactly squeeze test a pack. (Pulling Cubes out of DoD was so damn easy). Beyond that I dont think you can really tell out any of the other rares in a pack through a shake/squeeze method. I'm giving props to WotC on this one, not to mention the packs take up less room on the spin rack so you can fit more on it. | I just opened two cases and this set, by far, was the best in terms of getting different rares. Only missing the Red Dragon (sigh) and the Griffon (which I haven't seen yet, but folks seem to not care for). Wound up with duplicates of the Vrock and the Minotaur. Overall, I like this set. While I'm not a fan (in general) of character types, the characters in this set are particularly well done. I really like the Dwarf Warloard and Shieldmaiden pieces.
I like the new packaging as well, although I pretty well had to destroy each box to get to the content...which I'm sure was part of the design process! | | The man who thinks he can, and the man who thinks he can't are both right. Which one are you?

| I've ordered pretty much everything I wanted online for this set, but I picked up 2 boosters at the pre-release and 4 yesterday just to have some fun opening stuff. So in 6 boosters I drew:
Beholder - didn't order cause I have the old beholder Eidolon - didn't really want, but didn't order Red Dragon - same as beholder Silver Dragon - did order 1 of these Emerald Wizard - didn't order since I figured it would be an easy trade Immolith - didn't order, same as ew
So, of the 6 draws the only repeat I got with my ebay order was the Silver Dragon. I really couldn't manage a better draw. I was like a little kid opening them... "Wow" I can't believe I got that.

Are there any epics or is epic play going away? Oni looks good, about the same size as Efreeti, Djinn or Hill Giant. A lot less bulky than Fire Giant Forge Priest or Hill Giant Barbarian. The Oni's sword was seriously bent, but streightend easilly by the usual method (boiling water for 5 seconds)
No epic stat cards in this set. I doubt we will see any epic stats until WotC have playtested the next Huge set. Producing any epic stats prior to that would just restrict their options on how to re-design epic for ddm-2.

None: Eye of Flame (probably THE mini in the set) Emerald Orb Wizard Spectral Magelord Immolith
Duplicates: Ettin Jack-of-Irons (I have three now) Skeletal Tomb Guardian (cool enough fig, I guess) Vrock Champion of Baphomet
If the Hellsword could have been the Eye (or even the Lame-e-ugh) it would have been almost perfect.
I had a number of rares with crappy paint jobs but my uncommons almost all were very good.

| My one and only case:
Young Silver Dragon - SWEET! Oni - Big fig, nice wash, not bad Eye of Flame - It is a beholder! Always good to have beholders, even ugly ones. Wait! They are all ugly. Vrock - Great fig. I will want more of these. Ascendant Hellsword - Powerful. Not a bad looking fig. Rakshasa Baron - Maybe the best looking Rakshasa to date Balhannoth - Big ugly monster. OK! That works. Mind Flayer Scourge - (See Eye of Flame) Lamia - Very nice looking fig. It is not how I picture a Lamia, but who cares, the fig is a beauty. Griffon - Too small Runecarved Eidolon - My least favorite Bralani - It is nice to get another sculpt of a Bralani, but it is no where as nice at the BW version.
Overall not a bad case. Only the Young Red Dragon and the Death Knight might be a little difficult to come by. The commons and uc's are really not that bad. I doubled my Hook Horrors in one case (2 to 4). There is a nice variety. Overall, I am pleased with the case.
My H/W is updated. I have put a couple of Harbinger rares up for trade, so if anyone wants to trade, make me an offer. In the mean time I am off to Ebay to see how these are selling at auction.
Later,

| Didn't want to make a new thread for my case results, so I'm using this one. Got my first case today, will be getting a second sometime before mid-May.
Wyvern - Staunchly neutral. Champion of Baphomet - Looks good, and I wanted one of them. Balhannoth - Also neutral. I regret that it helped in making me not get a dragon or beholder. Bralani - Somebody fetch this man some pants! Immolith - Jazz hands. Otherwise I don't care for it. Lamia - I like the sculpt, at least. Mind Flayer Scourge - Nice. Glad I got it. Rakshasa Baron - Nice-looking figure, and I needed a Rakshasa. Vrock - Very nice. Need more. Skeletal Tomb Guardian - Wanted one for skirmish if nothing else. Ascendant Hellsword - At least it looks nice. Oni - Bulky. Sword is bent. Still very nice.
No dragons or Eye of Flame... But I got two Bulettes, which makes me happy.

Very much impressed by almost all minis, a pleasant surprise was for me the quality of the Balhannoth sculpt and paintjob.  I liked the concept of the Magelord, but the execution is terrible!!! You can't reaaly distinguish what it's supposed to be, and it looks cheap with a lot of seams.
Nothing ruins a mini like a big ol' seam scarring an otherwise smooth surface. The hydra looks like its tail was chopped off and then re-attached. However, the spectral magelord has only one seam line, and it's camouflaged by the bubbly mass he seems to arise from. It's  not perfect, but I think it's acceptable. I still find the figure very attrative.
I agree on the balhannoth. It looks bad in the gallery, but much better in hand - it's a creepy concept, the alien squid slug, and the execution is impressive. The seam line is very discrete. The same is true of the direwolf, which has a seam line running down the length of its back. It's a very tight and nearly invisible seam, quite unlike the one the winter wolf reportedly has.
Oh, and the ascendant Hellsword and vampire visier are absolutely beautiful paint jobs... I am very much a fan of this set! | | Champion of the Catoblepas

| I got three cases and was very happy with my pulls. I was only missing 2 rares for the set, and they were both "crap" rares... Bralani and Immolith. I also only got 2 triples... believe it or not it was the Red Dragon and Eye of Flame! One in each case! That was nice. The only thing that would have made it better would have been more than one Silver Dragon, but I sure aint complaining!
