I have a question for you guys out there who have successfully introduced the game to people who have not previously even looked at the game but ended up starting; any tips?

Here is my situation:
1) My LGS stocked up to Deserts of Desolation, but has stopped bringing new sets in. To get my new miniatures, I either Ebay them, or get another shop, located 1/2 hour or so from my area, and get them to import it in (takes a few weeks to arrive).

In other words, there is no reliable and easy source of boosters or miniatures.

2) Miniature gamers dislike prepainted miniatures because they are "ugly". This is a very, very real problem here, which I faced back when I tried to promote Dreamblade. The fact DB miniatures looked like random piles of plastic didn't help, but frankly, DoD onwards some of the DDM figures aren't really that great looking

3) Card gamers cannot fathom spending 5x more on a booster of minis than on a booster of cards.

4) There *were* a number of DDM players long ago; namely, quite possibly the only guys that play the D&D RPG. They gave up long ago because the miniatures were too expensive.

So yeah, the odds are against me, but there are a few gamer friends of mine that are willing to try the game now that I've finally printed and cut out the new v2.0 cards. Any way for me to salvage this seemingly hopeless situation?

I want people to actually start collecting their own collection, rather than always playing off what I have, as was the case in the past.

Thanks!

I,m a vintage magic the gathering player and I have been playing D&D minis since harbinger until now and this have never been a problem for me.To buy the minis by E-bay is a very good choice. In fact, I buy by ebay mini I do not own very often. If you do not have local challengers try to take part in tournaments and you,ll meet many rivals to play but it is very unpleasant if you are alone and you have to go to the tournament alone too.The fame of the D&D minis is now going down faster than ever because the bad paintjobs and poor resculpts but the worst part has been 2.0. Yes, 2.0 have made tons of damage to this game.Good luck

You have to get them hooked on the idea. I had problems locally as well.

Figure out what they are playing for, and then push that button.
