Presenting the 2006 Magical Mystery Trade!
The premise is to send a box of miscellaneous gaming goodies to the next person on the list. They don't know what they're getting, but they'll be excited when they open the box and see what you've put in.
Here's how it works:
The first person on the list fills a box with some miscellaneous gaming stuff they have sitting around the house. These could be books, figures, dice, whatever. This will also include a personally repainted D&D Miniature. They take the box to the post office and send it to the next person in line.Â
Person #2 gets the package and takes what they want in it and replaces it with an equal number of items, plus anything they want to add, INCLUDING a personally repainted figure. They in turn send it to the next person on the list.
And so on . . . and so on . . . and so on . . .
Here's some rules:
1. YOU MUST replace what you take. You take out three items, you MUST put in three items of a similar type.
2. YOU MUST also place in a personally repainted figure. Not one of the official replaints, but one you did yourself. Even if it's a wrackspawn ghost, or you used a sharpie to make a "cyber-hyena". Don't forget the card!
3. YOU MUST conform to the local postal laws (i.e., no dangerous or corrosive items, etc.)
4. ALL participants must understand that they MAY have to send to an overseas address and accept the responsibility of sending to those addresses.
5. NO JUNK. Yes, "junk" is relative, but it has to have some value.
6. YOU MUST set up a trade with the next person on the list so you will know when the package has been sent and when it has been received. Be sure to include your mailing address!

Hmmm... reference lost on me, I've never seen Galaxy Quest. I know what it is however.Â
As an aside if there is anyone who was around at the time, is this anything like the old Box Around the World Project (BATWP)? I never participated in that, but it sounds similar IIRC.

| Well, what does eveyone prefer? Random or non-random?
Randomised kinda keeps it fair for everyone in some regards.Â
For example, if I was to trade wtih MavikFelna (who isn't on here, but is my roommate), then he sends it, what about eveyone else who is paing for shipping seperately.
Also, having it random puts it so that people have the chance of getting something special. For example, you want to be after temperance or runelord for a repainted mini that they do. Why shouldn't someone else have the same opportunity for such a treasure?Â
You say you would like to dump your stuff, but you want this Treasure of the Tempered Runelord or whatever . . Â
I think you're missing the point of the Magical Mystery Trade.
It's not a way to just get rid of stuff you and no one else apparently wants. If that's the case pick anyone on the boards, get their address and send them your stuff. Or find a trashcan.
It's not a way to get something in particial like a repainted figure by Ruined Templord.Â
What is it for?
It's to support our friends on this board with something that is fun and lets you send some nice stuff to them. I'm putting a few things in a box, and some of them are more valuable than others. But I'm not just dumping it on someone else. I'm hoping that someone down the line thinks it's something of value to them. Then they return the favour of sending something that the next person will value.Â
And someday, when the package comes back to me, I hope there is nothing in that box that started the trip. That everyone along the line found something of value in it that I took care and thought into putting into it.
It's not about sending all 27 wrackspawns you've managed to acquire to some other poor soul.
It's not about what treasured item you will get.
It's about sharing with your fellow gamers across the globe.
Qucalion has left the soapbox . . .
P.S. My mixing up Temperance's and Runelord's handles should in no way indicate any snarky or insulting attitutides towards them as individuals, real or virtual. I just thought it was a bit funny.

| I like random. I may not be as good as some guys at painting but most of my friends have me paint minis for them. Maybe I should post some in the crafter's corner.
I have a nice War Troll and Justicator I did up maybe I'll throw one of them in.
