| Zarnof's band: LG Narkona the Cleric of Yondalla VS Richard II's warband: LG Richard Brightmantle the Cleric of Lathander
Winning warband: Narkona the Cleric of Yondalla (Zarnof LG) Zarnof's Warband: Narkona the Cleric of Yondalla, Valkerata the Justice Archon, Hill Dwarf Warrior; assembly tile (rubble), audience chamber, creeping tangle, treasure room warlord: xp:+500xp /+750cp (+500 xp/ +750 cp total) warlord leveling: nil Lieutenant: Valkerata the Justice Archon Lieutenant leveling: +250 exp Magical item gained: Med. Chimes of Withdrawal Magical item lost: None
Losing warband: Richard Brightmantle the Cleric of Lathander (Richard II LG) Richard II's warband: Richard Brightmantle the Cleric of Lathander, Warforged Fighter, Man-at-Arms, Hill Dwarf Warrior;assembly tile (rubble), treasure room, rock shrine, shrine (magic circle) Warlord XP: +250 XP / +250 CP Warlord Leveling: none Magic Item Gained: Minor sheild +1 Magic Item Lost: None
Summary: OK, I wasn't taking notes throughout the thing, so I'll just give broad strokes based on memory. Basically, our units waddled towards each other toward the middle of the map, where the rock shrine and a treasure room were, about as slowly as you would expect 2 LG warbands in difficult terrain to move. We cast various MW's at the start. At first the dice really liked him and not so much me, with him always winning initiative, and me missing his warforged fighter twice with my JA, the lieutenant, and him getting a crit on the JA with the warforged (the cleric had cast MW on the warforged fighter, so he could get through the DR with no problem). He also blasted the cleric of Yondalla with a searing ray, making her rout. His hill dwarf made my hill dwarf rout. After that things started to change a bit for me. He had based my cleric with a man-at-arms while she was routing, but she made her check. He then moved his man-at-arms, and the cleric managed to kill him with an AoO. His hill dwarf promptly killed my routing holld dwearf and based my cleric. I based both his warforged fighter and cleric with my JA, and hit his cleric. His cleric cast heal on himself, and my JA made her AoO with a crit, bringing the cleric down to 10 HP. The cleric moved away and the warforged stayed where it was, and next round I made my initiative check, and attacked his cleric after getting an AoO which missed from the warforged... I missed the cleric that time. Regardless, he healed his cleric again and moved away from the JA, and I missed my AoO. He killed my cleric the next round with his last searing light, and the warforged hit my JA; she however made her morale check. We fought some more, and the JA killed the dwarf, the warforged, and the cleric in the ensuing rounds, even with Richard trotting out good tactics and flanking her. Good game all around Richard; I think we both had good tactics! On a side note, I got chimes of withdrawal, which at first I was disappointed with, but upon looking at what the bard instument does, it makes my entire warband invulnerable for a turn as long as they don't attack. Anyone know any good bard LG units, or failing that, anyway to make a captain use bardic instruments? | | Completed trades: Isondaho, Ehren37, SilentG, Keane Reference thread: http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7178

I'm afraid I need to rain on your parade a little :)
My CG Warlord Valius also rolled the same item, instrument of Withdrawal. Man was I stoked :). Galneweinhaw rained on my parade, so I will return the favour.. it is, afterall, raging storm week on EC :).
What the Instrument does in this case, is grant the power "Sanctuary []" to your warband, until the next time the bard using it activates. SO if you do it smartly, roughly two rounds will go by before they lose that power. Now any of your creatures that have that power may, by replacing attacks, activate "Sanctuary []" and then not be attacked until THEIR next activation.
As Galnew pointed out, making your entire warband unattackable for one or two rounds would be ridiculously powerful, especially considering there is nothing in the wording of sanctuary (in DDM) that specifically does not allow attacking. You could have your bard sanctuary your warband, have your mounted paladin and ulmo surround (and attack once) and enemy wihtout risk of being attacked, and then attack again next round, again without fear of being attacked back, as long as your bard went last :). OUCH :).
As it is, as I described it, I have found it very useful in a few battles, but it takes some real strategy to pull it off properly, and I have screwed it up a few times too :). Stick with it I really recommend it as a keeper for your warband :).
As Zippy mentioned, the Standardbearer is a bard, and a very useful but underused figure I might add.
Good luck!
Tkort

| Hi, sorry to post this so late, but I'm most likely going to have to concede my week 37 games. My father's in the hospital and I'm staying in Houston this week without regular access to a computer. I may be able to play on Sunday - and will email my opponents with this info as well.
I'm also sorry that this is the first I've mentioned anything to Gorgasim, who I still needed to play a game from week 36 with.
Hope to get back on track next week. Thanks guys. | | Completed trades: Zarnof, Ehren37, Eric is God, griffrat, cavedweller, Kyrinn, Blade, Humble Minion, Noghri, Ilarue

| OK TKort, so, as I understand it, the chimes work pretty similar to what I thought they did, although perhaps didn't articulate well enough. Essentially, the bard uses them, and until the bard's activation, everyone in the warband gains the Sanctuary [] ability. They can use that in place of attacks, so for instance use it and make a move action, but not double move. They cannot be attacked until their next activation.
Is my undertsnading correct in game mechanics?
Also, because it will likely come up, say that one of my warband members has activated the ability Sanctuary, and can't be attacked. He's standing near an important passage, and my opponent goes by him and incurs an AoO. Can I attack him despite my Sanctary, and still keep it on until that character activates? Thanks! | | Completed trades: Isondaho, Ehren37, SilentG, Keane Reference thread: http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7178

| REPORT: Richard (CE) vs. Zippy (LE)
Winning Warlord: Gharag II, Tiefling Captain (Richard II (CE)) Gharag's Warband: Tiefling Captain (+1 shocking melee weapon, +1 armor of command), Kethith the Deathlock, Drizz'l the Drider Sorcerer, Large Red Dragon (crown of immune elec), Eye of Gruumsh (+1 paralytic burst melee weapon), Orc Champion (+1 force melee weapon), Red Samurai (ring of immune elec), Kenku Sneak. Support:Red Samurai, Drider Sorcerer, Cursed Spirit. Tiles: Assembly 4, Treasure room, corridor, shrine. Warlord XP: +1000 XP / +1500 CP (11500 exp, 17000 campaign points) Warlord Leveling: +1 level, +1 attack, +10 HP, feat TBA. Lieutenant: 500 XP to Kethith the Deathlock (4000 exp total) Lieutenant Leveling: N/A Magic Item Gained: (maj) +1 armor of immune elec Magic Item Lost: (med) +1 paralytic burst melee weapon
Losing Warlord: Krawd the Vicious (Zippy (LE)) Krawd's Warband: Krawd, Beholder, Ignavus the Green Dragon, Forix the Skullcrusher Ogre, Caligo the Direguard, Pedes the Bugbear Footpad, Efreeti, Bugbear footpad. Tiles: Rubble Assembly, Aftermath, spike stone cave, treasture room Warlord XP: +250 XP / +250 CP Warlord Leveling: none Magic Item Gained: (maj) +1 dancing weapon Magic Item Lost: (maj) +1 weapon of lawful outsider bane
Summary
Yeesh. Another crazy game between Zippy and I. Zippy's first 4 beholder rolls were stone, stone, stone, disintegrate. Fortunately my red sam made all the stone saves and the dragon made the disintegrate save. We kinda hacked it out for awhile with the efreeti dying real fast. Zippy put the spike stone cave in an awkward place, which forced me to use early transpositions to get my driders in the fray and out of LoS of the beholder, instead of being able to blur my hitters.
I managed to win an important init and beat the living daylights outta the beholder with an eye and champ, unfortunately I left my driders bunched together and Krawd based them both. Not good. One of the drider's got critted but made morale. He then died and the other drider failed morale (and 1 rally check before rallying). In the end I wasn't able to enfeeble Krawd and this was a bad thing. I did manage a couple of 19's with my red samurai to put 60 damage on krawd.
In the end it game down to my champ, eye and tiefling (plus deathlock with no spells) against krawd and the green dragon. Zippy ripped through the champ but the eye made morale. The eye then rolled a 2 and a 3 on his attacks, missing both. But Gharag came up big with a 20 and a 19 to put 40 damage on Krawd.
I then won the crucial last init and the eye managed one hit to drop krawd to 15 hp and Gharag finished him off.
On another note, what exactly am I supposed to do with 3 immune elec items? Fire lightning bolts through my own guys I guess. I suppose I shoulda signed up for the storm match this week. :P
Good game Zippy. | |

| Thought this had been posted already, just noticed that wasn't the case!
Veliq (CG) vs Dark Solar (CE)
Winning Player: Veliq Seliq's Warband: Seliq, 2 Graycloak rangers (Comnuntucko +1), Wild Elf Raider, Ialdabode, human psion Experience Gained: +1000 XP +1500 CP Warlord Leveling: Seliq gains another Spell Lvl (+5hp, +1lvl, +Blur []) Lieutenant XP: +500 Comnuntucko the GCR Lieutenant leveling options (if any): +1 SPL +5 HPs +Charm Animal [] to Comnuntucko Magic item gained: (med) +1 Ranged Flaming weapon (+5 fire dmg) Magic item lost (if any): N/A
Losing Player: Dark Solar Digger's Warband: Darth Vicious the Tiefling Captain, 2 Cursed Spirits, Troglodyte, Quasit, 2 Orc Warriors Warlord's Experience gained:250 XP, 250 CP Warlord's leveling options (if any): N/A Magic item gained: (min) +1 Armor Magic item lost (if any): N/A
Summary:
Darth Vicious was thinking ahead and brought along some guys to soften up Seliq and make her a little more succesptable, but fortunately luck was not with him, and instead the crucial crits came up from the GCRs. With a single shot the Trog went running, leaving the field before the battle had even begun. With conceal almost working against him (I think I missed once due to a conceal roll) and the open, difficult terrain not helping one bit, it was just a matter of time before the forces of chaos were sent fleeing.

Why does AngryIrish win our matches? I emailed him numerous times with 1 reply saying that we would have to play Sunday. So I waited pretty much all day sunday (leaving it on even if I wasnt around to see if he would message me) and I got nothing from him and while I was actually on (which was alot) I never saw him. So I think that I should get the default win cause he never even tried to schedual a match with me (only got the 1 reply from him). | | Welcome to Eternal Crack...
