| | Sigh...look all I'm doing is testing the waters to see if even such a venture is possible...and all this depends on the amount of interest I can garner. I can get maybe eight players from Singapore to travel outside for 2 days, one night...staying in Singapore is kinda expensive (for those wanting to come) and staying at a 4 star hotel in Manila would be easier on the wallet. It would be lots of fun if we could sort of come together and just skirmish...maybe the winner of supposed tournament would get a free plane ticket plus board to go to the next Gen Con...who knows. | | Vassal Tournament Constructed Group# 1 & 2-Champion "You are, what you do, when it counts". ------------------------- Sucessful Trade - Pan(2), Lexander (2) Trilistria (1) | |

| I'd be interested, but it is probably just as expensive to fly there as it is to the US how expensive are flights too and from Sydney? ps I have either a 12 hour drive or 4 hour flight even to Sydney b4 flying up there. How about all you guys fly here and I'll put you up with free accommodation. Maybe we could just do it on Vassal! | |

| Hear ye! hear ye! (is that correct, Kith? [:p])
Modest hotel accomodations for 2 people can fetch for only US$32 per night with free breakfast. There is also a "Bayanihan" room that can accomodate up to 6 people for only US$8 per person! Click on this link for the details: http://www.kabayanhotel.com.ph/
Food ranges between about US$1 to US$100 (with free massage [)]) depending on your taste.
Conference rooms cost about US$60 for 12 hours. The FLGS can serve as an alternate playing area, I believe. Or we can play at Nix's! ΖD]
As for the airfare, we can get relatively cheap tickets if we can time this event to coincide with the off-peak travel season. There were times when a round-trip (Philippines-Singapore) ticket costs only about US$60!
So the whole two-day shebang will not cost you US$100 of your gaming budget (depends on the room and if you want the massage or not [:D])!
IF we can get enough support, and the bounty to be had is great enough (assuming the opportunity to visit another country is not bounty enough for you) i think this racket is very doable!!!
What say you?

| Where are you quoting those airfare rates from? And how can a hotel that looks as good as it does in the pictures (are they real?) cost so little? I'm skeptical. Do they not have locks on the doors or something? | | My H/W list is not current... Trade Reference List OLD Trade references (191) | |

| | Don't give up on this idea - I'm doing the same for Europe... The outcome of the UK Nationals (won by a German with Italian close in tow) was that So Cal might become the location for 2006 WORLD championships with invites as required. However, DCI really want to see activity and keen interested BEFORE they consider doing this! Keep it up!!! | | One of these days WoTC will update their tournament page when I'm in the top 5... they never seem to do when I'm in that bracket :( My Collection My DDM Website And My Trade Refs Be a part of the UK DDM Forum

| Why would the UK Nationals affect where the Worlds are? *confused*
Personally, I hope that the World Championships stay in Indianapolis, since I'll probably be able to make it to GenCon next year...

| Well - here is the story:
We wanted a UK/European GenCon Qualifier so the UK Organised Game representative from Hasbro persuaded the GenCon organiser to add 2 more places for EU representatives. In that conversation the GenCon organiser said "I suppose you'll now want me to change the name of the event in 2006 to the World Championships?". Now, I believe they (not me) discussed SoCal GenCon for 2005 (blurry on this fact) - SoCal is not exactly close for UK/EU players to get to... Indy is easier (although, I am told, SoCal is cheaper).
There is the low-down!
In the end no-one went to GenCon Indy from Europe even though the top two were qualified to enter. | | One of these days WoTC will update their tournament page when I'm in the top 5... they never seem to do when I'm in that bracket :( My Collection My DDM Website And My Trade Refs Be a part of the UK DDM Forum

| How cool would it be to have a WORLD champion with the best of the best from every region being represented and contesting for the ultimate title and bragging rights.
So you're not just a champ in your native country but the WORLD...all kneel before...Umph, sorry got a little carried away.
As Kumag demostrated in the above post...going to Manila isn't going to be all that painful for the wallet. But then do your own research on the net or call a travel agent and find out for yourselves.
Thanks for the info Kumag. | | Vassal Tournament Constructed Group# 1 & 2-Champion "You are, what you do, when it counts". ------------------------- Sucessful Trade - Pan(2), Lexander (2) Trilistria (1)

The airfare rates are for the Manila-Singapore flight.
I'm not skeptical about the hotel...I've tried it before (albeit in another branch of that hotel) and I was really impressed about what you get for the price.

|
I have never been to Philippine. But if a relatively big tournament could be held, and I can have some vacation (and some pocket money for it) at that time, I am interested in attending that. On what season will you likely to hold?
It's all very preliminary at this juncture. I'm hoping at least 40 players will show up. Once I have garnered enough interest and e-mails, I will then decide on the country to host just such a tournament. I will then contact a representative from 'said' country and ensure that enough Judges are available.
At this moment, whether it be Malaysia or the Phillipines or Australia or anywhere else is still up in the air. It will depend largely on two factors -- 1) Number of players available in that country and 2) Financial considerations - Cheap hotel rates plus airfare. For now, if such a tourney if ever to be held expect it to be held sometime in 2006 and most prob in Aug or Oct. That should give everyone enough lead time to start saving. | | Vassal Tournament Constructed Group# 1 & 2-Champion "You are, what you do, when it counts". ------------------------- Sucessful Trade - Pan(2), Lexander (2) Trilistria (1)

I'm not sure how much success you'll have, doing things in that order. For many (most/all?) people, the interest and possibility of participating would depend a lot on where it will be. If the location is decided afterward, you'll probably lose some people.

Oh. If it's that far off, there's no way I can participate -- I'll be back in the US by then. I'll bow out of this thread.

| From PauMaster over at WOTC quoting prices if the tourney were to be held in Malaysia
quote: Hi guys,
I've did some research and put together some number.
Accomadation:US20-50/day
Food:US5/meal
Transport:US1-20/day
Misc:US10-20/day Airfare: Variable
As you can see, for 2 days 1 night can run from anything from around US30-100/day depending on how lavish you wanna spend.
FYI my normal expences for a day is actually around RM30(US8)/day when i'm working
During the weekends its RM50(US15)/day
So you could use that as a rough guide on spending in Malaysia

| Well the response here and at the Wotc Boards have been encouraging...not I guess I have to set a time...hmmmm. Kumag, any suggestions? It will definately have to be after the major holidays, ie Christmas...so I was thinking March of 2006. Is that good for everybody?

| I wanna apologize for not monitoring this thread in the past couple of days but I'm currently swamped with this project I'm working on and will not be able to focus again on this till Mid-Oct...so bear with me guys. Unless someone wants to monitor this thread? Pau? Nix? Juice? Kumag? ;)
Start saving up people...looks like the first ever DCI Asia Pacific championship might happen in April in either Malaysia or the Phillipines. :D :D :D
I would love for Sydney or Korea (I've never been vacation in both countries and would very much like to :D ) to host this but finances being what they are for the majority of the players in this region it's gonna have to be in one of the capitals of the two countries listed above. Remember, if everyone is willing to fork out USD $200; not inclusive of airfare (check budget airlines) In about Oct. (Or unless someone wants to start and monitor a new thread) I'll start a new thread so I can gauge a rough number of people that'll show up for this tournament.
