No, it is 19 squares to a victory area for both sides. Recount ... you may have the victory area wrong, as it is hard to read on the map.

A few comments:

It is impossible for side B (right side) to get a first turn fireball on the side A start area, even with inspired marshal.

Until we know what magma does, it is hard to figure out how the map will work. If flying creatures can fly over it, we have ou first squeezing situations in the game.

This map is really 3 channels, so it presents more options for charges than prior maps.

Not a lot of hazarous terrain on the map ...

Actually they're pretty much even on closeness to victory areas if you have fliers or a speed 10 creature any faction should be able to reach the victory area in the first round.

Oh, it's hard to read the text for the victory areas. I must've been looking at the wrong area (I was looking at the one on the top of the keep).

Yeah, I noticed the charge lanes. That could be pretty sweet.

Just checked it out ... it looks like it is 16 squares for B to get to the victory area on the top of the keep. Neon Knight on the WotC boards converted it to CC2 and posted this link:

You are correct about the 16 squares, my error. Interesting ...

More word: You can actually use the squeezing rules on this map (for flyers flying over certain areas of magma between two walls, like just beneath the Magma Keep title of the map) ...

You would think there would be some penalty for flying over magma, similar to moving over spike stones.

Is there an official errata on Lava? Is it in the DDM handbook?

Could fire immune figures fly over Lava unharmed?

Could magma man walk through lava?

Shouldn't you take damage for standing too close to lava?

Guy has said that they are just like pits. No fire damage, no difficult terrain aspects - nothing. All they are is pits. Orange pits. This should be clearly spelled out in the Hellspike materials.

That is correct. They are clearly spelled out as pits in the back page that deals with skirmish rules.

The alternate rules for lava are better. Too bad they aren't official. [:(]

But they'd cause some problems on this map ... those areas were made to be unpassable by land based creatures.

Huh. No teleporters or water, yet. I was expecting the rumored teleporters to be on these maps ... I wonder if they'll come on a Dragon map, or if they are set to be released in the WD maps ...

Yes, one of my maps was ripped right down the center. It sucks. Very very disappointed. It was the Magma Keep/Mushroom Caverns map. Was yours ripped?

Sounds like the folding machine is tearing up the new maps. Time to replace it. I know my Drow Outpost from Dragon mag was pretty tattered and frayed at some of the foldings. Possibly from the same printing company. That sucks though. I'd take it back and see if you can get another that wasn't ripped. Open the replacement in the store to make sure.

There is a very small detail picture on the Wizards site of each of the 3 skirmish maps. Not detailed enough to use for skirmish, but it gives you the ideas ...

As for the rip: Apparently they are all ripped. That SUCKS. Is the rip so awkward that it would be visible when laminated? (I have not bought one yet ...)

We don't know for sure if they're all ripped, but we don't yet have a report of any that are not. If anybody has one that is not ripped, a lot of people would be interested to know about it. So far everyone who has commented has a ripped one. [xx(]

Seems not all but a significant amount of those shipped have rips. 90% or so having rips is pretty horrible as far as quality of merchandise goes. Your best bet is to return it and get a full refund if they do not have a map that is unripped from their shipment. That way the store can return all the faulty mechandise and get orders for ones that are in good condition. This seriously sucks though considering it was just released and will probably take a month or more for a good shipment to get in.

That does suck. I don't want to wait another month to use these maps. They are otherwise very cool.

Jgsugden, I'll bring my maps on Sunday to the tournament and you can check it out. The tear is quite significant. Not sure if laminating it would be an issue or not.
