Unfortunately, Drizzt is overpriced. That makes it difficult to create a warband around him that is truly competitive with top warbands. However, if you grab some low cost uniques with range attacks and decent ABs (Ialdabolde, Lidda, Aramil, etc ...), you can get a bit of oooomph out of his commander effect. I enjoy running him with Ulmo and a few small uniques to form a very tough duo ... not tough enough to handle a tier 1 band, but a fun warband against tier 2 competition.

I don't think he's overpriced, exactly ... it's just that his Commander Effect is so good, you must build upon it extremely effectively. It's the Commander Effect that makes him so expensive. Without it, he'd cost less than 70.

I recently ran Drizzt to 2-1 at my local FLGS. I was out strategized in the last matchup. He played slower than I figured and we weren't able to play enough rounds for me to press my advantage (The way I was approaching the match).

Anywho, the band was:

Drizzt, Rask, Lidda Adventurer, Krusk, Aramil, Ialdabode, Regdar, Mialee and Tordek I think. It worked well.

The three range strikers can soften up the front line for Rask/Drizzt and Krusk. Regdar and Tordek are really there for fighting fodder/activations and Moral support[:D].

The introduction of Rikka and Guen make a new type of warband possible now, but I haven't gotten many new pieces yet, so I can't tell you much about them.

Drizzt
Rikka
Guenhwyrvar
Krusk
Ember
Lidda, adventurer
Devis

i really think Rikka will improve with Drizzt both normal and epic

i have been also thinking of a LG warband with her

Actually, with Drizzt, Guenhwyvar is pretty good. The problem is that Drizzt himself is overpriced (I must disagree wity you Wayne). Hopefully, his epic version is more aggressively costed.

Also if you local group is anything like mine most of us play what people would call tier 2 bands we like to experiment. In one tourny my brother brought a Drizzt band with the Gith renegage and surprised the heck out of alot of us by starting Drizzet on the mushroom tangle in base with other figs esp fodder or exposed support pieces. Was a nice tactic but in a larger tourny it would only work once or twice then people would catch on and couter it. but was a fun band to see when it worked

I would drop one of Ember / Krusk (probably Krusk) and make sure I put in Aramil. I'd lose Devis for Ialdabode as well, fill with Tordek if he fits. Should work out well enough in 8-figure-limit games. Ember can grab tiles, so can Rikka or Guen. The others sit w/ Drizzt for a bit, maybe advancing and firing as they move towards the center of battle / scoring position.

Chris,

I gotta say I tried it both ways and I prefer Krusk to Ember. Ember is still only a 10 point hitter even with Drizzt and when she is the tile grabber, she's often to far for his bonus. Early game, it's necessary to keep Drizzt within Command Radius of Lidda and Aramil to help their ranged attacks.

By the time you get her into battle, she's only getting the one attack most of the time anyway. Krusk is still speed 8 (Better for tiles than on maps I think) and given only that one attack, does more dammage on turn two. Turn three he'll still be up on Damage output 40 - 30 (each piece puts out 20 per turn with the help of Drizzt). Ember is more survivable against medium hitters and won't rout as easy, but should not be the focus of your opponent's energy anyway.

I like the stun, but the DC is kinda low and a lot of front-line bruisers are immune now or level 8 or higher.

I've not tried either way extensively; just looking at the stats and my play-style (I like speed / monks / ac / less routing / etc.). I tend to avoid thematic bands and Drizzt's commander effect is one that INSISTS on thematic bands.

Have you had a chance to take any of these to a tournament and see how it performs yet? I've seen Drizzt/Ulmo and Drizzt/Rask bands but I haven't been ton an event yet post-Rikka/Guen and I'm curious to see if those make Drizzt bands more competitive.
